  1. I'm not sure I want to use Bumblebee's taint as a mouse.
  2. Eh, I kinda want to divorce myself from microsoft and apple as much as my profession allows.
  3. There are plenty of reasons why windows 10 is garbage. And don't misunderstand me, rainmeter is great and I love it for what it is, but it's not what Ross is looking for. And honestly I'm seriously considering building a linux machine. Maybe not my next computer, but the one after that, I'll consider it.
  4. I will never not be salty that Ennio Morricone never scored a videogame. Truly one of the greatest composers to have ever lived.
  5. It has been a while since I've watched it, but it's the only mind series other than Freeman's Mind that I've watched more than once. Which says a lot.
  6. What I meant is that rainmeter isn't a replacement for explorer.exe. It's just a visual thing that runs on top of it like wallpaper engine. And like I said it's heavily dependent on the rainmeter and system you're using. If you're using a simple rainmeter and have a pretty beefy system then the effect will be negligible, but if you're using a potato, then it will definitely have an impact. What Ross was wanting was a shell replacement, one that will work even on a potato system.
  7. I really liked a lot of Shepard's Mind. Something about "I don't wanna do the dew" really stuck with me.
  8. It's called photoscanning, and you actually don't need a special device for it anymore, just a camera and some software.
  9. The problem with rainmeter is that it's an application, which means dedicating a lot more processing power than a shell replacement. I do like stuff like rainmeter and wallpaper engine, but they're not practical if you don't have a beefy rig already.
  10. It was okay. The biggest issue is that it's not very quotable, while Freeman's Mind and even Shepard's Mind are very quotable.
  11. Eh. Considering it's just a duplicated and mirrored icon not much probably, particularly since it was part of OS X from the beginning, and they only got rid of it a few years ago. I liked it because it was simple but not bland. As for Material Design, I have mixed feelings about it. I don't think it's bad, but it's so bland, and it's lacking compared to it's competitors, plus it's a google product and that's never a good thing. Gesture based design is fine when it doesn't require precision. That's when things get ugly. And yeah, I've hated Apple for many years now, and even Microsoft is making me consider Linux.
  12. The Designers Republic is the company that did the graphic design and concept art for all the Wipeout games. The stuff you posted is part of what the designed. Buro Destruct is a design agency similar to The Designers Republic. Karim Rashid and Klaus Mai are graphic designers that were very influencial on the "Y2K Aesthetic" look, and contemporaries of the Buro Destruct and Designers Republic. Ippei Gyobu is a mech and character designer who worked on Jet Set Radio and other games of the era, but is most famous for his work on Gundam. FontGraphic is a graphic designer who specializes in, well, fonts. So I guess you're also a Mechwarrior/Battletech fan in the making?
  13. Nah, only FontGraphic does pixel art stuff. The rest don't. Sorry that wasn't clear. Pretty much everyone has declared war on anything that's unique or interesting. It's all just flat grey or black blocks now. I fired up my old iMac from years back and was taken aback by now nice it looked compared to modern OS X. Like compare this: VS this: Yuck. And I even prefer dark modes. Sure, they're both minimalistic, and the layout is basically identical, but one just looks so much nicer than the other. The little reflections the icons have when they're sitting on that fake "table" looking thing gives it such a nice sense of physicality, which isn't usually taken into account with UI design. Though Ross, I'm curious to see what you think of these designs by FontGraphic: While they might be a bit too busy, (they're just animation showcases, not real interfaces for anything) I really like the pixel art take on a futuristic aircraft cockpit. Maybe not as a software design, but I'd like a videogame that uses a GUI design for this. I think that'd be cool.
  14. As ugly as this is I kind of like the placement of some of the buttons. Plus I like that thumbwheel. Out of all the ones in this thread this is the one I'm most interested in trying. What the hell is that? Jesus H Christ that looks like a nightmare to use and I even have narrow fingers. I definitely disagree with Steve Jobs and think that a mouse should have as many buttons as possible but this ain't it chief.
  15. Yeah, I had a feeling this would be a sticking point. It's definitely a form over function type deal but hey, you said to pick my favorite, and I could tell from just looking at it no one else would pick it. From a pure practicality standpoint any of the others I linked would be way more usable, but since they were from a different website I just wanted to include them as part of the continuing GUI conversation, since this is something I care about a lot. But the colours were pretty and I'm still a huge fan of that plasticky/early 2000's mp3 player look. Ah! A fellow student of The Designers Republic I see. I can see where you're coming from and I'm a big fan of that Jet Set Radio/Wipeout look too. Minimalism is frequently so boring, with dull colours, and lots of white and black. It's something of my nemesis. But this has such strong visual appeal and I'd like to see it get more popular. If you like stuff like this I reccomend you check out the Buro Destruct, Karim Rashid, Klaus Mai, Ippei Gyobu, and FontGraphic if you like pixel art. You'll like at least some of those.
  16. Yeah it's definitely not for you if you're not into magenta. I have a very extreme sense of taste.
  17. This one without question. I've always loved these over the top, plastic-y looking designs. This ones called -Arora Efex Mix Fix- by peacemaker and xenosomething. If you're into this sort of thing I recommend you check out this website as well. They have all kinds of good stuff. Here are some of my favorites unrelated to the contest: Available Here. Available Here. Available Here Available Here And I think that's enough for now. I know they're not the most practical, but I'll be damned if they ain't stylish.
  18. Only the ones in our hearts.
  19. Unfortunately I'm basically the only person that ever posts there and I don't have any power to do anything.
