  1. This topic thread is on the subject of the METRO 2033 Universe. If you know nothing about this Universe, here's a quick intro: VrVm3LXJZlM "The METRO Series, is a collection of Post-Apocalyptic Horror / Thriller / Fantasy Science Fiction novels, and later video games, created by the Russian author and journalist Dmitry Glukhovsky and 4A Games. The METRO universe takes place in the aftermath of World War 3 between Russia and an unknown number of other countries, including USA. In the nuclear exchange, the surface of Moscow has become heavily irradiated. The lethal radiation levels have made the surface uninhabitable, and have produced a number of horribly mutated creatures who roam the surface. Seeking shelter from the nuclear wasteland, the surviving humans retreated into the Moscow Metro, where they have eked out a living for roughly 20+ years, and have split into several ideological factions, like Fascists and Communists. But the tunnels of the Metro are home to even more dangerous mutants, that threaten to exterminate the remnants of civilization..." The main novel releases are "METRO 2033", "METRO 2034", and "METRO 2035" by Dmitry Glukhovsky, as well as an assortment of over 90+ novels set in the METRO universe created by various authors. The videogame releases have been "Metro 2033", "Metro: Last Light", and "METRO: REDUX", which is a Redux release of the previous two games to run better on modern systems (It's the best version to get in my opinion.), by 4A games. The games are very heavily influenced by the book "Roadside Picnic" and the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." videogames (4A games was founded by ex-s.t.a.l.k.e.r. developers) and while linear in story, offer great environments to explore, and a great blend of first person combat and stealth. I decided it is best to start this topic given the recent announcement of METRO: EXODUS at E3 this year. Check out the trailer: It's amazing, and is most likely reflective of the final game, given 4A's previous track record: DuvN4YcJ0ZA Discuss your thoughts on this series below.
  2. It's okay dude. I made a bunch of crappy threads (and posts) just like this when I first joined the board. I've grown a great deal since then. Yeah. Went through a bit of a commie phase a little while ago. Feels bad, man. Like Winston Churchill said: "If you aren't a Socialist when you are young, you have no heart. If you aren't Conservative when you are old, you have no brain." Everyone goes through an "idealistic communist phase" when they are young because Communism sounds warm and fuzzy and you think "This sounds like such a good idea, why isn't everyone doing this?", but then you grow up and investigate into communism and how it has worked, and then you go "Holy shit I was so naive to think this was a good idea, this ideology is EVIL, how could anyone believe in this?" C'est La Vie
  3. I'd say that the human race needs an entire "Phoenix" effect if it wants to save itself. I am saying this in relation to Western civilization however, the 2nd and 3rd world are still developing to have a major-human-race-history changing impact. Western civilization, mainly Europe, has a hell of a lot of damage control to do if it's going to last more than a Century from now without being destroyed. If I had to predict the main force that has a chance to save the West, it would be Far Right Nationalist Populism. Yeah, if I am seeing THAT as the West's best chance for salvation, then you can see that the West has some major problems on hand.
  4. Oh definitely. LBJ wanted the presidency badly, and didn't like JFK because he was basically a Republican using the Democrat party to gain popularity, and must have convinced the CIA to assassinate JFK after the whole Cuban Missile Crisis.
  5. Yeah, when Valve releases updates, they release EVERYTHING they can in the update, because it's likely to be a long time before another update is released. I still wish they did a remaster of Team Fortress Classic though. Fortress Forever just isn't good enough to capture the original feel of the game.
  6. I mean yeah, they're pretty shitty, I guess some of them are a necessity for young creators to get all this retarded stuff out of their systems before they begin to mature and make better stuff. SOME of them...
  7. Yeah, but Call of Duty is at the least consistent, the gameplay is honestly fun and enjoyable, and it caters towards the casual audience that doesn't have time to be invested in videogames for hours a day, kind of like all of us really. Call of Duty knows what it is, and is trying to be nothing more than it is. Granted I haven't played any other Call of Duty after Ghosts, and consider the MW trilogy to be objectively good at what it does, so maybe I'm biased. Life Is Stange, along with similar toned games like Mirror's Edge and Until Dawn, just try way too hard to act smug and pretend that they are bigger than what they really are, and that's why they're worse. Also technically Grand Theft Auto is the most profitable game franchise, but still get your point.
  8. 1) It was Wing Commander, not Starship Troopers, and 2) Democracy doesn't always work in cases of emergency. Sometimes you just need someone to just take full command and get stuff done. It's more effective than arguing over what to do. Oh well, I guess you can make up your own mind, but still though, Ross has some good points on a few issues.
  9. Wait, how many maps are in Unreal Tournament? Isn't there like 30+? I don't know how one could get tired of all the default maps, but hey, whatever works for you.
  10. It's not an Algorithm, it's a Blacklist Razorfist explains it well in this video:
  11. "WASTE" Valve doesn't "WASTE" anything, and they KNOW that a HL3 would not be a "WASTE" of anything. And even if it was a "WASTE", then they could make enough profit off of micro-transactions so that it wouldn't effect them. If anything, HL3 would bring them MORE profit instead of less. Don't see the logic in what you're saying. Oh and the confirmation of HL2EP3's script being released by Marc Laidlaw PROVES that a Half-Life 3 is confirmed, because he wouldn't have released it at this time of the year if he knew he would get into hot water over it, and if they weren't planning to announce a Half Life 3 in October.
  12. Oh yeah, & me an a dude were working on how to get the original 2004 Vortigaunt model to work with HL2 EP2, which would serve Ross well for consistency's sake. https://gamebanana.com/skins/156780 The model seen here is ported from Black Mesa Source. All we need to do is figure out how to get the original 2004 textures to work with it.
  13. alternatively you could just go with this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/290930/HalfLife_2_Update/ hell, Ross has done commentary in this so I'm sure he's considered it. fixes a bunch of stuff and improves the graphics in the best way possible. can't go wrong with it, plus it fixes the weapon oversights - and it doesn't stray from the original art style like that abomination 'cinematic mod' Yeah, but he won't use it for all of the levels, like how he complained that the Ravenholm level is covered in this green mist, so he won't use update for all the levels. Besides, these weapon models are used in HL2 Update, so they should work with the 2004 version of HL2 he's using.
  14. Probably said this before, but are you going to use custom weapon models to fix developer oversights? For example, a complete model of the Crossbow (https://gamebanana.com/skins/157096) or 2 hands holding the Pulse Rifle (https://gamebanana.com/skins/142536)
  15. Well, we did know for some time that Ep3 was cancelled. This might actually confirm that HL3 is being made, if Ep3 isn't a thing anymore.
  16. hours* "It'll be the 7 hour war all over again... except this time we won't last 7 minutes!" - Eli Vance
  17. I think the Combine would beat the Gems, because the Combine have more interdimensional forces to call upon, they have the capability to destroy Earth in 7 minutes, and they can mass produce forces and incorporate Gem forces into their own ranks.
  18. Goddamnit Joe Wood! Inside Gaming did a fantastically hilarious playthrough of this game, and it was great.
  19. ha, imagine your mindset back then: "This will probably be the last episode of Freeman's mind." If you had known what was going to happen... would you have done things differently?
  20. Lol, Donald John Trump is now the 45th President of the United States. I guess people hated Hillary more than they liked Trump. So far he's been a good president with various degrees of success. Ultimately he needs to do well and succeed, otherwise America will not succeed.
  21. I keep hearing that HL3 won't be released, or that Valve are scared to make it, or because Valve can make money off of steam they don't need to make it. WELL, let me make a prediction: "I believe that Half Life 3 will be announced around October 2017" Yes I am serious. There are several reasons why I believe that it might actually be announced this year. (1) - By that time, Half-Life 2: Episode 2 will be having it's 10 year anniversary. What better way to honour the series than for Valve to announce the final chapter of Half-Life 2: Aftermath? (2) - Half Life 2 took around 4-6 years to create, including that leak in the middle of it. If we are going to judge development times, it isn't unreasonable to predict that Half Life 3 would have a 10-12 year development cycle, which could place it at around a 2019-2020 release date. This might be the hardest to digest, since Gaben said that they don't like announcing things in advance, considering the hack that took place in 2002. For Valve to announce HL3 in 2017 and to have a release date in 2019-2020 is a tough pill to swallow, but stranger things have happened yet... (3) - It has been 13 years since the release of Half Life 2, and 10 years since Episode 2. For Perspective, Prey (2005) took 12 years to create, and Duke Nukem Forever took 14 years to create. If Valve does not want to have HL3 be more infamous than DNF, 2017 would be a great time to announce their hard works (which we do know that they are working on HL3, they just need to announce and release it). Failing 2017, they would have to announce HL3 before 2022, because by then it would have passed DNF's developer hell time, and there WILL be some HELL to pay for it. (4) - As of now, 2/3rds of Valve staff are working on VR. And they are moving buildings in September. What better time to announce their new VR game once they have moved into their brand new workplace? (5) - Valve have also been working on Left4Dead3 for quite some time as well, which will show off Source 2 day-night-cycle technology as well as VR. Maybe an Orange Box style release of L4D3 and HL3 would be a sound decision? (6) - Speaking of other games, as you may have seen the (rather) disappointing announcement of ARTEFACT, that DOTA 2 card game. Well from that VNN interview, we know that Valve have been working on 3 big games. This Artefact reveal may have been one, so what about the other two? Also, what better way to fix the wounds and resent towards Artefact than by announcing HL3? EDIT - (7) - Well Well Well, Marc Laidlaw (the ex-head writer of Half Life) just revealed the plot to Episode 3, titled "Epistle 3". This is revolutionary, as it pretty much confirms that Valve would be making a Half Life 3 and not a Half-Life 2: Episode 3, seeing as they stopped making HL2:EP3 back in 2013 when they canceled the Episodic format. Also the timing of this before October 2017 is really coincidental to my predictions, as Marc would not have released this if Valve was not planning to release a HL3 in the recent time. His comments about how the "Spirit of Rebellion" is still in the "Changed Science Team" shows that Valve DOES want to make a Half Life 3. And it would HAVE to be in VR. It's the only tech that could make a revolutionary enough change in Videogame design to be impactful. So yes, those are my reasons why I think HL3 will be (hopefully) announced in October 2017. What are your thoughts on this? Do my thoughts have some logic to them, or am I preaching to a brick wall and you think none of this is plausible?
  22. Seems very interesting. I'll see if I can find some more info on this.
  23. DOGDAY was this old Point-&-Click Mystery Graphic Adventure game that was released back in 1997. http://www.old-games.com/download/8825/dogday The premise is that you are an Anthropomorphic Dog in a world of Anthropomorphic dogs, and a shady mafia gang controls the whole city, including the police. You have to expose the criminal workings of the corrupt government, leak this information to the Coalition Against Totalitarian Society (CATS), and then leave the city. It's a very interesting game with a great atmosphere and interesting puzzles. I happen to own a box copy of this with a huge walkthrough. If I can dig it up, I might post it here. This is EXACTLY the kind of game for Gamedungeon.
  24. Servos... In the suit... Strength enhancement... Gordon... Freeman... I do understand, but it still would not make sense for this. Actually, no it doesn't make sense, because if he had servos in his arms, he should be able to lift anything in HL1, or hold weapons in both his hands. Freeman needs to hold the AR2 in two hands, not one hand.
  25. Maybe this game is just too highly intelligent for mortal humans and the creator is an alien. Forget Helious Ross; if the aliens were wanting to abduct you and testing you with videogames to understand our intelligence, THIS is the kind of game they would force you to play, if they landed on a farm, and based their entire perception of humanity on this one encounter and made this game from that. Only aliens could come up with something this crazy. Or someone very very insane with a mental disorder...
