  1. My impression is that this episode is only too short for the type of game that's being reviewed. 16 minutes is plenty when you're covering Construction Bob, Potty Pigeon or Bozo's Night Out. But this is a big game with lots to talk about, and it shows when you have to shoehorn everything in. Otherwise I thought the quality of the recording and editing was great, so you should keep outsourcing as much of this as you can. Generally I'd rather have MORE game dungeon than one great episode every couple months. MORE!
  2. Hey Ross, why did you decide to move the chat to Saturday instead of Sunday? Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm much more likely to go out and miss the chat on Saturdays than Sundays.
  3. I lived in a ground floor apartment where the air was very humid. We had mildew stains popping up all the time, especially in the bathroom. You can use bleach to clean up mildew stains, by the way - we did that all the time. After a year or so living there, I couldn't breathe well and was diagnosed with asthma. Meds didn't help much. At some point I bought a de-humidifier. This helped especially during the cold seasons, when we couldn't keep windows open all day. Another lesson I learned was to not hang clothes to dry in the apartment, if you can help it. That water evaporates and gets in your walls. Anyway, I moved from that apartment a year ago and guess what, no more asthma problems. TLDR: buy a hydrometer; if the air humidity is too high, get a de-humidifier and keep windows open as much as possible. Clean all mildew stains as soon as you spot them. Look in every corner of the room, especially dark corners behind closets/cabinets etc. This shit can be quite hazardous to your health.
  4. About 30 to 40 minutes into the game. It's a solid beat-em-up although it gets repetitive pretty fast. Like any brawler I expect it's much more fun to play with a friend, as it supports two player co-op. The atmosphere is great, graphics and music are pretty good and the premise is interesting enough that I want to play more to find out what happens, but the fighting gameplay is not amazing. I'm definitely not a fan of the healing mechanic either, although it's funny to watch.
  5. The #1 game on Ross' most anticipated games list is now out on Steam for 15 bucks! Wonder if he's planning on making a Game Dungeon episode. Just from what I've seen of the game, it seems to offer plenty of material to work with.
  6. Hey Ross, good video as usual but I don't like how you casually SPOILED THE ENDINGS to both the first and second Deus Ex games. At least put in a warning, or even better a video annotation to skip over the MAJOR spoiler part. You're probably assuming everyone who's watching the videos has at least completed the first Deus Ex. Well maybe, but that was 16 years ago! After your video of the first game, I started playing it again, only to have the ending spoiled before I even finished the second area. I am disappoint.
  7. Seems like this practice is gaining popularity and now it's no longer limited to games or even software. Check out this article: https://medium.com/@arlogilbert/the-time-that-tony-fadell-sold-me-a-container-of-hummus-cb0941c762c1#.eo755v88d
  8. Hey Ross, I don't "get" Moon Gaming, could you explain the format? What the two MG episodes so far have in common is: - you have a guest, which in the latest episode is you, so kinda defeats the purpose - you're on the Moon for some reason that does not impact the show in any way In fact this second episode is more like the Boppin' game dungeon than the first MG episode, as that one was not scripted.
  9. Half Life 2. I don't hate it, but I think it's massively overrated today. It's the highest scoring PC game of all time on Metacritic. Here's the problem with game ratings, the context changes. Back in 2004 HL2 was amazing. It was a big step up technically and artistically. It had a huge wow factor going for it, I was blown away. The atmosphere was great (best thing about the game IMO), you could drive a variety of vehicles, the engine was revolutionary, it had somewhat believable characters and the story was engrossing. It was also massively successful and set a new standard for first person shooters. But having done so, other games have since come along and improved on the recipe immensely. So how does it hold up today? I recently played through it again and frankly I almost didn't make it all the way through. The first half or so of the game was still fun, especially Ravenholm. But from Nova Prospekt on, it just got tedious. I haven't yet found someone to agree with me on this, so chances are I'm wrong, but I think the shooting in HL2 is by far the worst part of the game. I especially hate fighting the Combine, and they're the most common enemy. They are heavily armored and you have to empty more than half a clip to kill one guy, which makes every weapon feel weak. Also, once you've taken one shot at an enemy, they will ALWAYS see you within half a second and return fire. These enemies have hitscan weapons, so you can't dodge their bullets. This is fine when coupled with a replenishing health mechanic like modern shooters have, it makes you play more conservatively and make use of cover. But HL2 has health packs and charging stations, which are exhaustable. So the challenge becomes to manage your health between charging stations. This is just not fun gameplay and makes for a low and very rigid skill cap. I won't even mention the extremely linear level design or the tacked-on squad mechanics. Oh wait, I just did. Honestly even though it's 10 years older, I think DOOM holds up much better today in terms of gameplay, when compared to HL2. The shooting is as satisfying as ever, especially if you use the Brutal Doom mod. As to the level design, I have mixed feelings. Like Ross, I'm not a big fan of wandering around a maze trying to find the yellow keycard, but I think I prefer that if the alternative is a super linear level where I have to figure out what passageway the designers wanted to funnel me through. Note I'm just talking about Half Life 2. I think the original Half Life, despite its comparatively drab and lackluster levels, holds up better today, due to having better core gameplay.
  10. No, it doesn't. If people can run their own servers, even MMOs will still be playable. Granted the experience won't be the same, but that's miles better than the game dying outright with no possibility to play it at all.
  11. This is my first post. I've been around for a while but I don't usually post anything anywhere unless I have something to say. So here it is. I'm a big fan of your videos, especially the game dungeon, though I can't really explain why. I think it's a mix of nostalgia for the games covered, your sense of humor and authentic love for games that sort of emanates from every episode. Anyway, I think you underestimate exactly how much some of us fans are looking forward to every episode, so let me tell you. I was a big fan of the show LOST. The ending sucked, but I was really hooked on that show, like so many other people, looking up theories online and debating it with friends. I'm also currently a big fan of the Game of Thrones series. However, I've no idea when the new season is coming out and I've only watched each episode once, same as with Lost. By way of contrast, I've seen each game dungeon episode at least 5 or 6 times. I've caught myself QUOTING some of your stuff in normal conversations. How creepy is that. Also, I almost never donate to any cause, as I don't have a lot of money, but I've donated to AF for free videos that I would get anyway, just because I want to keep you away from hell jobs and making more videos. The point is, your videos are important to people. Definitely more important than they should be. After all, they're just rants about old video games. So maybe you don't know, so that's why I'm telling you. If I was doing something that people thought was important, I'd want to know. Also for this reason, when you announce a new video coming soon, please stick to it or at least post an update. The latest Ross rants and game dungeon are a month late, yet there's no info around as to what's going on. You have literally thousands of fans waiting for this stuff. I guess this is the downside to having a devoted fanbase.
