this game is unfinished, according to Steam reviews.

I played this for a little bit, and in my opinion this game is awful. awful graphics, awful voice acting, awful direction in general. everything seems cheap and low-budget. the cinematic teaser made it out to be much more grandiose and "AAA" than it really was. to put this into perspective, this Call of Cthulhu doesn't even come close to the atmosphere and tension that was in the game of the same name made in 2006 (!).

"an annoying grind that's playable" would be a perfect description for this. I don't think I've ever finished another game that bored and annoyed me to this extent. at no point does this product ever rise above mediocrity, but it successfully manages to fool the player into thinking that something better is coming. ouch, this combat is awful, but it'll probably get better if I get better gear and familiarize myself with the mechanics. ouch, these dialogs and fetch quests are awful, but maybe the story will get interesting later. well guess what, the proverbial dragons never came, and your enjoyment will hover around the "meh" until the very end. I sincerely wish for these devs to never work on another project again, because they clearly learned nothing from their past mistakes (in case you don't know, it's the same studio that brought us such "masterpieces" as Bound By Flame, Mars: War Logs, and The Technomancer).

speaking of Slavjank — how much of this game was actually made by Deck13, and how much of it was made by CI Games? because the former is a German studio that went on to make The Surge, and the latter is a Polish studio currently developing Lords of the Fallen 2.

didn't play this, but Necromunda: Hired Gun was pretty good.
-
I played this when it came out, and wasn't impressed at all. like MadmanEpic said, it's not exploration, but team deathmatch.
-
played this years ago. kinda cool, but also gets tedious as you go further.
-
turn-based combat, therefore hard pass for Ross. hard pass for everyone else, because — allegedly — you have to read wiki guides before you even stand a chance in this game.
-
that is one ugly-looking screenshot.
-
I think I actually tried playing this a long time ago. didn't like it.
-
ah, the "not S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2". at this point I'd rather just wait for the real thing.
-
it's been released about a year ago. excellent, one of the best experiences of the year. hard as nails, as any Souls-like should be, so Ross should probably stay away.

this game has been released.

the game is in early access right now. I played it a while back, it's pretty good.

Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance
Arseniy Yavorśkyi replied to Generic-User's topic in Ross's Game List
Steam user reviews at 50%. not a good sign. -
that's a bit harsh. this game does have unique mechanics — the issue is that it's built around the idea of repeatedly dying until you get good, like any other Souls-like. unless Ross stops feeling as this wastes his time, he's not going to enjoy these games. so, basically, never. which is a shame, but there's no point in us being bitter about it.
-
Ross, don't bother, it's another Souls-like.
-
I don't know that game, but Ross said he could barely get through Fallout 2. at this point I don't think objective quality of the game actually matters.
-
hard pass for Ross, then.
-
the comment above pretty much summarizes my opinon about this game. except for the rogue-light part — I actually think this aspect of the game detracts from the experience.
-
I've beaten this. it's one of those walking simulator/experiential type of games. not bad, but I wish it was more subtle about what was really going on.

played this for like an hour, then stopped, and never touched it again. feels too much like an art film with symbolic scenes that have obfuscated meanings.

in 2021, Little Nightmares 2 was released. although not as good as the original, it's still excellent and definitely worth playing. one important thing to add is that both of these are experiential, rather than mechanically-driven games. here, gameplay is simply a vehicle that carries you along the way, it's not the main attraction. you want puzzles? there are better games for that out there. platforming? likewise. stealth? same answer. but the feels that these games deliver are like no other. so, if you are the kind of gamer that enjoys games purely on a mechanical level, the plot and implicit feelings being secondary or of no importance at all, the these games aren't for you. on a side note, if you've seen the movie The City of Lost Children, Little Nightmares 1 has a similar vibe.

"meh" to the bone. feels like the devs were aiming for a triple-A experience, but had neither the budget nor the skill for it.

this is a shooty Souls-like. which means: soul-crushing difficulty and enemies that respawn every time you die. plus it's got procedurally generated levels, so forget about carefully crafted level design.
