Ok then, in your opinion what are some positive aspects of Gaming culture? I honestly don't see any and think that gaming culture should be purged with fire.
-
Gaming culture is something that's been bothering me for a long time. It is so superficial and fake I can't stand it. I've never felt the need to identify as gamer. Playing video games is just something I do and I often obsess over them way more than I should. But I've never felt the need to justify my hobby to anyone nor have I ascribed my obsession as having more depth than it actually does. At the end of the day playing a video game is just something that I enjoy doing and it makes me happy. It's nothing more than that. It doesn't need to be. Ascribing something as having more depth than it actually does strikes me as a rather hipstery thing to do. The activity of playing video games for certain types of people makes them feel like special snowflakes and makes them feel inherently unique for whatever reason. It's not just the hipsters that bug me it's the charlatans too. I can tell if someone is pretending to enjoy a game or pretending that they know about games from a mile away. It's so painfully obvious to me as to what they're doing. They aren't fooling no one. Also what is with certain games being treated as gods to be followed without question? Sure they were important titles but that doesn't mean you follow their exact design to the letter. You're suppose evolve the medium you're working in. Not sit there and do nothing. Why would I play your game that behaves exactly like an older, much more seasoned game? I'll just go play the older game. In summary culture is what grows behind my fridge and it should stay there.

Damn, I just can't win today . Sorry about that, no harm meant.
-
Well I guess it depends on what your definition a person is. I don't really consider politicians as people.
-
I was referring to people not corporations. Ross has never been hostile to an actual person.
-
Just what exactly were you expecting from Ross? I honestly don't understand where you're coming from. Ross has never been hostile to anyone in his in any of his videos ever. Ross is one of the nicest people I can think of that I watch on a regular basis.
-
@Presence I'm afraid I don't quite understand. Is she just severely harassed on the internet or is this something specific? Unfortunately I often hear of vile harassment against transexuals.
-
I thought this episode was brilliant. I'm glad to see Ross's experience with Moon Gaming hasn't gone to waste. I loved the disconnect between Ross and Tom. It was like they were on alternate planes of reality. Ross should get more people who have wildly different views on a game to his own. The chaos that would ensue because of it would be great. Is there a better description for Mrs Reitz other than her Wikipedia page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Diane_Reitz . It seems a bit bare bones. I would like to know more about the creator of this game as I've never heard of her up until now. P.S if you're searching for information on the game make sure to search for "Boppin Game" and not just "Boppin" as that's something completely different . I'm not surprised that Boppin's a term but it did catch me off-guard initially. So just a heads up for anyone else who's searching.

Ross is the next Game Dungeon Rise of The Triad and its 2013 remake?

Hey there. Just was wondering if you two could pick your best 3 or 4 questions to ask and then we can hold those other questions until the next one. We'd like to get through all the questions if possible. Also, if you have any questions you'd like to pre-submit, go ahead and do so by sending them to [email protected] ASAP so I can compile them and get them into a format Ross likes it to be in. Thanks! Ok, here are my top 3 questions I would like to be answered by Ross. I will save my other questions for the next videochat like you asked.

Everything I Post/Say Turns Into an Essay. What Should I do?
Heliocentrical replied to Heliocentrical's topic in Free-For-All
Thanks for the support everyone, I have considered using some sort of outlet for my work. I'm just not sure what. I've been very careful when it comes to which outlet I use to publish my work as each outlet has it's own limitations. I want my work to be available to as many people as possible. I use the word "available" as I know my work won't suit everyone that ever runs across it and I refuse to modify my work to appeal to more people as that would in my eyes taint the work as a whole. But at the same time I feel that if I don't give my work enough exposure due to the outlet I release it through then I'm implicitly holding back my work because of it. Like say for instance would Game Dungeon be as popular as it is now if instead of videos they were posts on a blog that Ross made? I've always wondered about that question. Are videos are more accessible than written work? Maybe it has to do with what fits the work the best and not the outlet it's release under. But then which outlet would fit my work the best? I could use several different outlets depending on what's apt for the content I'm currently working on. I honestly don't know how valid my argument for which outlet to use is. But I do think it's worth considering. -
As of late I've been noticing a particular habit in my posts/what I say in a conversation with my friends. I've noticed that some of my posts/conversations I unconsciously turn into essays. if I have extensive knowledge on a given topic I feel compelled to explain it in full and gratuitous detail. I always wonder if this gives people the impression that I'm a smarmy asshole and/or someone who obsesses over video games too much. I'm pretty sure I've scared some of my friends due to this. I won't go into full detail but basically at some point during several different conversations I've had with my friends they would give this sort of look of "Why can't you just enjoy the game for what it is?" or "Are you okay? It's just a video game". I know they mean well and they're nice people deep inside. But I feel like I've become disconnected from them as a whole and can no longer communicate effectively with them. Just one day(don't know exactly when) all of a sudden my vocabulary became much more complex. I honestly can't remember what it was like before. All I know is it wasn't as immense as it is now and oh look I've typed up yet another essay. Anyway if I can't relate my issues to you then I thank you for your time nonetheless. At least I always feel better when I express my problems then when I keep them bundled up.

REACT TO FINE BROS CONTROVERSY
Heliocentrical replied to HLPrincess's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
CGPGrey posted two videos making fun on of the FineBros incident. Figured I'd post them here. They're hilarious. Z-Zr7c-J6qE 9dPnaAt-Rbs -

REACT TO FINE BROS CONTROVERSY
Heliocentrical replied to HLPrincess's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
I oppose any and all forms of copyright. In this day and age copyright does nothing but hurts our freedom of expression and any amount of leeway we give to the attempted manipulations of our freedom is a sin. As much as I would like to see less and less reaction videos being made copyright is an incredibly unjust way to go about it. People need to choose to leave the reaction format and let it die of their own accord for what I would like to see to be righteous. -
Hi Ross, I have a few questions I would like to ask. First what are your current plans for the PlanetSide 2 meetup? Are you managing the PlanetSide 2 meetup all by yourself or do you have multiple people managing for you? I would like to know who to talk to and what faction I should play as so I can level up my character prior to the meetup. Have you played Warframe and what do you think of it? I recently picked it up again after a 2 year hiatus. I heard from Totalbiscuit that quite a few things have changed with Warframe so I decided to pick it up again to see what was new. I hated Warframe back when I played it two years ago and I still hate it with this new revamp. I practical tore Warframe a new one in a post I made on these forums. I'll go ahead and put the important bits in a spoiler box for you to give you some context as to where I'm coming from. I'll also update it a bit since I have a few more points I would like to add. Are there any games you'd like to give more attention that you know you won't cover in a game dungeon? What is your experience with Linux? Did you just play around with Linux or are you doing more advanced stuff with it? I know you mentioned you would do a Ross's rants video on Linux eventually. What are your thoughts on overkill PC rigs and superfluous PC addons? I have a PC with only AMD hardware with normal air cooling at normal clock speeds and it drives me insane when I hear people talk about how much they've spent on their hard-tubing, watercooled, overclocked, Intel Skylake builds. My PC's just as good as playing modern titles as theirs. They're just nitpicking over the tiny unimportant details and at risk of burning a massive hole in their wallet. There are so many points of failure they've added just to their PC for no other reason other than to have fancy things in their fancy PC. It just seems like such a careless way to build a PC to me.

That's not xenophobia. You are simply confusing the terms. That is a simple of criticism of policies. That's all. Plenty of reasonable Americans think that the US is terrible for not having proper gun controls. Xenophobia = dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries. Disagreement with your government policies is not prejudice against or dislike of your people. Regards Ok, thanks for clearing that up. After you mentioned the difference I went to go find case of actual Xenophobia and the examples I found seem to fall under the category of racism too. Like for instance the Holocaust. So from what I understand the Holocaust is simultaneously racist and xenophobic. The Nazis hated the Jews because of their race and the Nazis also hated the Jews because they were strange and foreign to the Nazis. Is that correct? Though wouldn't something racist also be implicitly xenophobic and vice versa because there's something you find strange about a person's race? I'm kinda confused on this point.
-
What about the EU's update on their Gun Control policy after the Paris attacks http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-15-6110_en.htm? After the update I heard so many Europeans say how the US is terrible for not implementing a Gun Control policy similar to the EU's . This is what I'm talking about.
-
So what I was describing with EU demanding that the US have similar policies as they do isn't xenophobic? Sounds pretty accurate description of xenophobia. Attempting to override another government's control of their own ability to govern themselves because the way the US does it is foreign and strange to the EU. I've encountered people claiming to be Europeans who are basically saying that US should fall back in line and follow the EU's jurisdictions because they can't stand the way the US government runs things within their own country. The US is just as bad in similar regards too and I'm only sighting this as one example so I could focus on xenophobia as a whole and not by specific cases. What you're talking about are slight jabs at other people. Which are totally fine and harmless.

So I have been playing a MMO a third person shooter called Warframe which was developed by Digital Extremes and let me say I hate this game. Warframe is limited and boring in every conceivable measure except graphically. Because apparently that was worthwhile to Digital Extremes and I can go fuck myself for wanting to play a video game with interesting mechanics. Anyway on to my points of criticism. Warframe is the video game equivalent of a sleazy and deceptive door to door salesman. When you first start playing Warframe it makes you think you're going to have a great time with it. Then the microtransactions start to creep in. From that point on you have three choices either you buy the premium currency, pull double duty by farming crafting components and waiting forever. Of course Digital Extreme I would love to not play Warframe for 3 days straight while I wait for something to be crafted you stupid developer. Your loadout is limited to three types of weapons and five powers depending on what level your Warframe(Warframe's equivalent of a class) is for the whole game. So you can have anywhere between 4 killing methods to 8 killing methods. That's not enough variety for the game to stay fresh and not go stale. On the topic of variety there isn't any in Warframe at all. There are two factions(not exactly but might as well be) you can fight in one of 7 possible scenarios over and over again. Along with procedural levels with not enough room variety. I once ran through 3 of the exact same rooms. The weapons are not fun to use. In Warframe you have to choose between speed or damage. You'll be screwed regardless of which way you go about it. You can install mods but they're capped to five levels and vary in terms of helpfulness. They can either be helpful like giving you a 15% damage increase or not be helpful at all like giving you a 5% increase to your ammo capacity. Also the mod drops are random and infrequent. So honestly what's the point? The weapons are incredibly unbalanced. You can acquire some of the most powerful weapons in Warframe in as little as 3 ranks. Which does not take anytime at all to acquire. This makes acquiring any other less powerful weapon pointless. Why would you bother leveling your MK1-Paris when you could craft and level a Vectis sniper rifle? There are so many pits you can fall into and not be able to progress as a result. Remember the 5% increase to ammo capacity I mentioned. Well you can upgrade it to a maximum of 25% and strap yourself of credits in the process. That is one of the many pitfalls that can prevent you from progressing. The game is incredibly vague and unhelpful in terms of helping you. I had to carefully plan out everything I did to make sure I wasn't screwing myself over in the process. Finally there is no end game to Warframe. Got 3 of the best weapons in the game alongside one of the best Warframes in the game? Congratulations, now you no longer need to play Warframe. I will admit that Warframe is fun with friends but that's the only time it ever is. Warframe's a quick game you play with your buddies and nothing more. If you're at all considering to play Warframe make sure to play it with friends. If you want to solo Warframe please heed my warning and don't do it. You'll unconsciously thank me for that. Trying to solo Warframe is downright painful and not worth the effort. Take it from someone who's played Warframe to practical completion. if I could undo all of the progress I made in Warframe and play something else I would've without hesitiation.

I've been noticing quite a bit of Xenophobia lately. The US and EU in particular seem like they downright hate each other. When the EU passes a new policy I often hear how amazing the new policy is from the EU and that the US should implement a similar policy. Then the EU gives the US shit for not implementing a policy similar to the EU's. This seems like an incredibly passive aggressive way to convince another government to adopt a similar policies to your own. Has the EU ever considered that the US's citizens might have different priorities to theirs? Why can't individual governmental bodies respect each other's ability to govern their own country? All governmental bodies are pretty atrocious in my eyes. Are they trying to determine who's worse? What good will that accomplish? I'm painting broad strokes here as I want to focus on xenophobia in general and not specific policies. Also I'm not deliberately defending the US. I'm just citing the conflict between the US and EU as an example. I'm sure the US has done some awful stuff to other countries too. Pretty much all governmental bodies have done terrible xenophobic things within their lifespan.

Nope, Dark Alliance 1 & 2 are completely separate entities from the original Baldur's Gate 1 & 2. It's quite fascinating how they both started with the same base setting of Forgotten Realms but they both turned into completely different beasts unrecognizable from one another. The original Baldur's Gate titles were developed by Bioware from 1998-2001 whereas the Dark Alliance titles were developed by Snowblind Studios from 2001-2004. Surprisingly Wikipedia has a pretty accurate overview of the entire Baldur's Gate series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldur%27s_Gate_%28series%29#Games.

There's this problem VR has with input. VR's disconnected from input. Your hands are using a controller/keyboard & mouse while your head is in a separate space. In this space your brain starts thinking that you can physical get up and move because you can no longer see your controller/keyboard & mouse. When that isn't the case and you're still sitting at your desk with your controller/keyboard & mouse. This creates a disconnect between what your seeing and what your feeling. I found this video by a guy named Errant Signal which better explains my points. UEht8W6w2Rc

I have a particular taste in obscure video games. There's one Playstation 2 game that comes to mind by the name of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2. I don't hear people talking about it that much. Dark Alliance 2 is one of my favorite hack and slashes. It isn't a combat powerhouse like Diablo 2 but one of Dark Alliance 2's strengths is it's atmosphere. When I played Dark Alliance 2 I felt like I was actually there in the Forgotten Realms setting. The art style has aged considerable well. Though that may have to do with how to the camera is positioned but I digress. The soundtrack is phenomenal. Some of the tracks send shivers down my spine every time I hear them. 3BvB5iAkl1s R_75OJd-mWQ In terms of atmosphere Dark Alliance is on par with or even above Diablo 1's atmosphere IMO. I have two gameplay videos to give people who've never heard of Dark Alliance 2 before an idea of what it looked like. UzCM5D-ESGE criWmc6RAqo But viewing the gameplay videos on their own doesn't do the game justice. You need to play it to truly appreciate it. If you happen to find a Playstation 2 or 3 with backwards compatibility dirt cheap I would highly recommend getting that along with a copy of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2. I'm quite saddened that Dark Alliance 3 was cancelled and those types of hack and slashes aren't made anymore.

I think either one of us can guest host in the other's server. That what I did with my friends who were on different servers than I. Let me know what low level areas you haven't done that are around level 30 and I'll join you on one of my level 30s. Ah man, I almost forgot I have to leave for work pretty soon. Tell you what I'll PM you once I can play.
