@Seattleite What do not you understand? DRM only exists because pirates exist. If everyone had just been reasonable instead resorting piracy then DRM wouldn't exist in it's current form. It's simply not disputable. If you can't accept that it's partially the consumer's fault for the state that the games industry is in then that's your problem. If you know anything about the history of this industry then you know this to be the case. You can't just write history off with no evidence to contrary. At this point you've done nothing but spout your own opinion with no evidence to back your claims. Which would be fine if you could handle criticism and be reasonable about it. But it's obvious we can't have a reasonable conversation about this so I'll end this right here and now. Why are you here when no one will accept your dubious claims? I'll admit you've done a reasonable job for someone with no evidence. Why do even bother you hanging out with us when you consider all of us to nothing but idiot shills? As you've admitted yourself "In summary: I need to stop being so damned surprised when people are so damned stupid.". Is your ego so fragile that it needs to be constantly stroked at every given opportunity to make yourself feel important and so it doesn't shatter right before your eyes? It is obvious to me that you think your opinion is invalid. You wouldn't have been so defensive and insecure of it otherwise. Do you honestly have nothing better to with your time that you have put down everyone you come across to make yourself feel better? If you honestly think your opinion 100% right then go right ahead. No one(myself included) is stopping you but until you actually produce something that isn't blatant hyperbole then I suggest that you do something constructive with your time if your not willing to give other people's opinions a passing thought.

@Seattleite no, you're completely in the wrong and have already given up by saying you'll pirate. Piracy will only entrench publishers further into DRM, not less. I care about the games industry as a whole and will simply not buy the games released under that a publisher that is killing games. I will not give into to the ultimately self damning and malicious action that is piracy You have given no principles to abide to in order to give games industry the chance it needs. I will gladly give the games industry that chance every opportunity I can. We may be small and we might possibly not do anything impactful in the end. But atleast we'll put some effort and thought into how we conduct ourselves. If we don't conduct ourselves properly Publishers will effectively wage DRM warfare against us the consumers because actions of Pirates. Pirates have effectively invalidated the actions of digital distributors such as GOG and humble bundle for offering the option to go DRM free. They will continue to make the consumer look like to villain and treated as such. These actions of uncaring ignorance speak volumes and I will not stand idly by to watch as these actions erode what's left games industry's integrity away.

Right and we should totally screw over the games company out any chance of pay and increase the likelihood of them shut down. Fuck employees who actually take the time to put effort into their games because they feel that they owe it to themselves to have some integrity. They don't deserve any chance making a livelihood from their own work. People like you make me sick. Do you have any sense of common decency? Malicious activity will get us nowhere and pure malevolence isn't what we're here to accomplish. We want to calmly illicit a reasonable response from EA and see if it will snowball from there. That it, nothing more and if nothing happens then no harm done. Atleast I hope so.

What game universe do you want to live in?
Heliocentrical replied to Reverend_UshankaCat_'s topic in Gaming in general
You also get to live in a giant mushroom tower. Who wouldn't want that? I've often speculated as to why a good portion of the Telvanni councilors are insane and I thought maybe it's due to them living inside a giant mushroom for so long? Can you imagine all of those fungal spores that you're breathing in constantly for who knows how many years? That can't be good. I'm guessing the spores aren't immediately fatal otherwise the Telvanni wouldn't living inside of the mushrooms. It's probably on par with living inside a house with lead paint. Not deadly but definitely not very healthy. Most of the insane ones are old too so maybe it's a combination of age, magic abuse and living conditions. That makes sense to me. -
Where's the Fair Use Awareness Topic

Come get our finest quality salt at Seattlite's salt refinery. Get it while it's pungent. . Seriously though can go through one day without regurgitating an insult at someone? Every single one of posts that I've run across from you either reeks of this pointless, half-baked passive aggressiveness or is directly aggressive. It might help you get your points across if you don't call someone a dipshit every fifth post. -
I can see that Ross has some footage of Path of Exile https://www.pathofexile.com/ in the video. It's a much better hack and slash then Darkspore. I think it's one of the best hack and slashes ever created and I think it even surpasses classics like Diablo 2 and Sacred from a mechanical standpoint. When Diablo 3 was still a mess it got it's ass handed to them by Path of Exile. Now that Diablo 3 is somewhat fixed I'm still not planning on going back to Diablo 3. I couldn't find any details on if Path of Exile had an end of life plan for it or not. But Path of Exile seems to be doing pretty well for itself since it's on it's fourth expansion pack now and it had a lot of passion and soul put into it by the indie company Grinding Gear Games. I can't see Path of Exile shutting down anytime soon unless something horrible happens to them like if they're bought out by Blizzard and were shut down subsequently after for less competition. Though I feel that if this sort of thing ever came to pass then Grinding Gear Games would find a way to back it up so people would still be able to play it before the fact. Passionate people like GGG won't let something they've worked so hard on die so easily especially with the freedom they currently have as an indie company.

Does anyone remember City of Heroes? For those who don't know City of Heroes was this great superhero/supervillian MMO. If you want more info you can go to this fanmade wiki called Paragon Wiki http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page. I used to play it ton when it was still alive. City of Heroes is one of the few MMOs that I wish I could go back in time and play again. it was unique in it's own right and definitely wasn't a WoW clone which were popular to make at that time to make. What happened to Battleforge sucks but it atleast had some form of a source as is evident by Battleforge Reborn http://bfreborn.com/ so eventually you'll be able play the same old Battleforge. Whereas with City of Heroes there's no option of reviving it as there's literally nothing left. The closest City of Heroes got to a revive was a chat room. BoeHD7CvBSA I don't mean to put anyone down who worked on this chat room. I'd rather have something reminiscent of CoH exist than nothing at all. But I know that if I ever tried to use that chat room it will only make me miss CoH more then I already am. All that's left of CoH are a few fanmade wikis and game projects attempting to remake City of Heroes. Now it does appear that the fanmade game projects City of Titans http://cityoftitans.com/ and Valiance Online http://valiance.shogn.net/ are making some progress. But they've still got a long way to go and they won't be the same as the CoH. Using Ross's killing Grandpa analogy this whole situation feels surreal. It's like you're not even sure if grandpa existed in first place because you couldn't find his body. You often hear of how cool your grandpa was but your memory of what he was like has dwindled away to nothing. Then you come across three people. A ghost of your grandpa and two people who knew your grandpa but have differing opinions of what he was like. They all mean well but you know that they aren't your grandpa. I hope that made sense. It atleast gave me something to chuckle about.

There are both good and bad sides to that hashtag there's no point in denying that. Believe me I was all for people like Totalbiscuit who actively disclosed his relationships with developers. I loved the Witcher 3 but I respect the hell out of what TB did in not reviewing it because he felt that his relationship with CD Projekt Red had made him biased towards the game. In fact I'm quite terrified and paranoid of these types of purely beneficial relationships because they can happen in an instant. You had a conversation with a game developer whom you're simultaneously reviewing game for? How personal did the conversation become? Did that conversation give you a negative/positive impression of that developer? Did you ever consider at one point that you and the developer could become good friends/bad enemies? All of these elements when encompassing a product that is suppose to be highly objective is fucking terrifying to me. I'm not condemning that hashtag as a whole. For that would mean condemning TB and people like him whom I have so much admiration for. That being said I will not excuse covering the asses of the bad side of that hashtag and quite frankly I'm fucking done with it. I honestly wish more ethically concerned hashtag members would consider this opinion as option to take. This particular person gives a bad name to TB and people like him and that is why I called the person a pseudo intellectual fuckwad. Compare his content to TB's and you'll see that this particular person's content is clearly agenda driven with "Concerns about ethical journalism in video games" layered on top. Oh please, it is so evident that he doesn't give two shits about ethics in games journalism it's laughable and there are some many other people with distasteful views masquerading as "caring about ethics" like him I will not tolerate it. If you're here to defend this particular person then I can guarantee that you will get no love from me and not likely any others. He is a fucking disgusting waste of a human being and if some people within that hashtag warrant things like this soundcloud here then maybe you should stop and consider who it is you're defending. TB himself has actively been passively distancing himself from that hashtag for quite sometime now and I commend wholeheartedly for that choice. He's seen that hashtag for what it mostly is. A devolved, amorphous mob with several completely innocent people within it. Remember it is important that you slay the monster and salvage the innocents. Not slay the innocents along with the monster because they believed the monster to be their brother in arms.

Again I must stress that we not mention them directly. The more that we talk about that hashtag the more likely that they will find the Accursed Farms Forums and ruin everything the operation has going for it. In order to obfuscate any connection that we might have to that hashtag I've created some shorthand so we'll still be able to talk about them without potentially providing a direct link to us. So when referring to the hashtag or those hashtag members please refer to shorthand before posting about them. The shorthand is vague enough that it could refer to anything but I think that the context in which the shorthand is presented in will be easy enough to understand. Also if you can think of a better, more sound shorthand than what I've provided I will use that instead. GG: That hashtag GGers: Those hashtag members The fact that most hashtag members didn't find the Accursed Farms Forums the first time we discussed the hashtag is a miracle. Let's not potentially ruin that ambiguity again and I'm as guilty as everyone else who's mentioned the hashtag. This time however I've acknowledged the possible dangers of mentioning the hashtag and am letting the rest of you know.

I agree, for the sake of our own integrity let's keep those pseudointellectual neckbeards out of this. Infact we'll want to make sure that their support is unwelcomed here. They will bring nothing but hyperbole into the discussion and drag us all down with their innate stupidity. I would suggest that we refrain from mentioning their actual names as this will undoubtedly draw more unwanted attention to the operation. Just refer to them as something else like I did and preferably refer to them as something uncommon. As this will make the Accursed Farms Forums less likely to pop up in a search by distasteful people. We're a pretty obscure forum so let's not give away one of our greatest lines of defense so easily without merit.

Ross you may want to have some sort of written guidelines to follow along with your video in order to avoid further problems. Putting up something like PERSONAL INFORMATION IS NOT ALLOWED before this gets any larger would be best. I feared this might happen. We just had someone misinterpret the guidelines you provided in video and accidentally doxxed someone in the process within hours of you announcing the operation. If we're to get this operation off the ground then harmful actions made by misinformed people is the last thing we need. These guidelines need to be as clear cut and dry as possible with no room for misinterpretation. You should also take every opportunity you can to provide these guidelines as well. If people willing continue to misinterpret your guidelines and continue their harmful actions in your operation's name then you need to actively distance them from your operation. They should be branded as not having the support of your group and are properly ostracized. These measures may seem to be harsh but they're absolutely necessary if our operation is to be successful. TL:DR You should treat people within the operation as if they were on a forum(like this one). Establish some rules and ban people for breaking those rules.

Dark maroon, I've always thought that color was interesting. What type of movie/book/video game genre can you not stand to play/read/watch?

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number I've been trying to S rank all of the levels on normal difficulty. I managed to A and A+ most of the levels so trying to get all S ranks seems possible. Albeit not a very sane thing to do but that's kinda the point . I've got all of hard difficulty still left for me too.

I can empathize with you're going through. I myself have hated many things over the course of many years. But I've stewed so long in my hatred of many things I've grown kinda content because of it. I know this might sound strange but I now love to hate. I love using a combination of hatred, nihilism, apathy, misanthropy in my rhetoric when I speak/write. This is something that I've found rather amusing and when I come across something particularly witty in my head it's like feeling the gears revolve inside of it. That feeling is catharsis in it's purest form. Also my type of hatred isn't straight forward. When I really hate something I write what's basically a long essay with hatred, nihilism, apathy and misanthropy sprinkled in for good measure. This provides me with a well-written article with which I feel content that I have made. See if you can focus your anger and hatred into producing something tangible and malleable. Focus it into a rhetorical weapon with which you can stab the things you hate. You might find some enjoyment with it like I have. This has given me an a aspect of purpose that I've never considered previously. I feel that my work was worthwhile in producing in of itself and that my work holds weight in my mind. A weight that I needed in my life. Use your aggressive feelings boy, let the hate flow through you" 2Oy6DwHAi70

Even with The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod KOTOR II TSL still feels quite empty IMO. Don't get me wrong KOTOR II did a lot of things right but for KOTOR II to be so good and not tick all the boxes is just painful to see. KOTOR II could've been standing up with the likes of great RPGs like Planescape Torment if it did everything right. Sadly KOTOR II isn't another Planescape Torment. KOTOR II is a good game, it's just not a masterpiece like Planescape Torment. So with this in mind I would like to talk about things that I think would've made KOTOR II an amazing game if the were implemented. What if Kreia wasn't the obvious villain? At various points of KOTOR II's development Kreia wasn't the apparent villain. With these alternative villains Kreia would've been killed off and replaced by the following What if you could follow a neutral path and stay true to Kreia's teachings? I think Obsidian really wanted to write a neutral path into KOTOR II. But straying from the stereotypical good/evil paths would have been too much of a risk for them financially so I don't blame them at all for not doing this. But at the same time I think a neutral path would've been a very interesting aspect of KOTOR II if they went with it. You could legitimately follow Kreia's path and not be manipulated by the force. Rather you would be manipulating the force itself and killing the force's will. You could learn where the force was silent, tap into areas and learn how to expand upon that silence. Thus weakening and eventually killing the force forever.

I would highly recommend installing The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM) http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-sith-lords-restored-content-mod-tslrcm if you plan on playing KOTOR II. It restores a lot of cut content back into the game. It's a shame that Obsidian were forced to cut all of this content out of their game because they were strapped for time. They had to scrap the entire planet of M4-78. I've played both without and with TSLRCM. I can easily say that the TSLRCM version is the version that Obsidian intend for people to play. Out of the two KOTOR II TSL is my favorite. Making me not want to kill every single one of my companions was a nice start. I thought Kreia, Bao-Dur, G0-T0 and Hanharr were great editions. Kreia in particular was spectacular. She had so much depth to her character as this grand manipulator trying destroy the force itself. She despised both the Sith and the Jedi seeing them being manipulated be the force but in different regards. Atton, Mandalore, Visas Marr and the Handmaiden to be lacking but I didn't outright despise them as with everyone else in KOTOR I. Can't really say anything on the Disciple or Mira as I've not played a good character nor a female character. Though I suspect I'm not missing out much with them. I liked all of the philosophical questions it was asking. How would you kill an entity like the force? What kind of impact do your actions leave behind? I think I'll add KOTOR II TSL to the title of this thread since you can't really talk about one without the other.

I recently played through Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I and honestly I didn't like it a whole lot. But I do want to talk about it. Mechanically KOTOR I's engine is a very dumbed down engine from NWN's engine and it really shows. KOTOR I is an RPG where developing stats for your characters isn't a very satisfying thing to do. All of it just seems like a tremendous waste and overall it's not well executed. I wished Bioware had worked on a completely new engine with new mechanics instead of dumbing down the same engine that they used for NWN. It just seems lazy to me. To me KOTOR I's story was one giant fetch quest with plot thinly layered on top. I can barely remember what I was doing in terms of the plot. I was an important person but I'm not sure why. Then later I became a Jedi knight and my mission was to touch all the giant pointy triangle thingies. Once I've touched all pointy triangle thingies I would be given a map to the super ultra mega triangle thingy. But then I find out that I was a very bad important person!!!! Then I had to make the tough decision of either taking the super ultra mega triangle thingy's power for myself or blowing it up. I know, riveting stuff right? Most of the characters were uninspired goody two shoes. Except for one and that would be HK-47. If it wasn't for HK-47 I don't know if I would've finished KOTOR I because it's characters were so boring. HK-47 always had me laughing hysterically whenever he elected to comment on something I did or if I talked to him. HK-47 was just great have around wherever I went and so I took him with me at every given opportunity. Outside of HK-47 the rest of the characters were just unbearable. At one point in the game you get the option to kill most of the awful characters and I tell you I could not select that dialogue option fast enough. Bastilla was still there but it was still a pretty huge victory from my perspective. Overall I just find KOTOR I to be very bland and uninspired. Bioware definitely did not want to go outside of their comfort zone with KOTOR I.

How is communication handled in PlanetSide 2 exactly? I assume you can't talk to other people that are on a different continent to yours. Is that correct? Since there are 4 continent maybe Ross could designate 4 different people as leaders and maybe he could talk to those leaders via a separate VoIP service. He would need some way of establishing a connection between him and those 4 other people. Something like a VPN might work. I'm just hypothesizing as to how Ross could make communication work.

That's a similar conclusion I've reached as well. I used to watch/read a lot of reviews. But I've realized that they're entirely subjective and I keep finding myself disagreeing more and more with these critics. Even with reviews that have objectivity in mind. They're still 35% objective and 75% subjective and you can't change that. I mean what can I say about who's entertaining and who's not? Does it even matter? Anyway I find myself not enjoying these reviews/critics as I used to. There are some that I still watch like Zero punctuation. But that's because I still find Zero punctuation highly entertaining whereas with everyone else not so much.

So Ross I know you've been wanting to cause some sort of in-game mayhem alongside the meetup. But what exactly did you have in mind for us to do? Are we going to be disrupting things due to our sheer volume?

I began to wonder why I've been viewing gaming in such a negative light as of late. I think it may have to do with what I been watching. I often watch other Youtubers like Super Bunnyhop and Jim Sterling. Now don't get me wrong being well-informed is a great idea and they are very well-informed sources. But their coverage is so consistently negative that I think they've colored my views in general. It's not their fault that their coverage of the games industry is mostly negative The games industry does shitty things all the time. In fact if they went against what was shown to them at face value they wouldn't be honest. But I could imagine them wishing that they could say more good than bad about the games industry. When good things present themselves they relish at the opportunity to talk about them. But unfortunately more often than not this isn't the case. Super Bunnyhop in particular sounds so depressed now. I can't help but feel like they've left a jaded impression on me. I really should reconsider what I watch if it's affecting me this badly. To where I would I almost outright dismiss what should be a wonderful pastime for me. What a rather sad but nonetheless interesting predicament I find myself in. Trying to rebalance my cynical posture with positivity. But my mind is worth salvaging out of this depressing mire.

What do you get out of identifying as a gamer though? Identities like gamer largely ring hollow for me and therefore I have no desire to identify as such. What is the point of identifying in such a manner? IMO the difference between me saying that I play video games and you saying you're a gamer is that gamer is a status and playing video games is just an activity. The activity and the identifier who is involved with said activity are separate entities. Playing video games is just what I do and that's all it needs to be for me. I don't think gaming should define every aspect of my being as IMO I think that's what identifying as a gamer implies. Sure gaming has encompassed a large chunk of my life and still does to this day. But I don't feel the need to be defined by it or that gaming alone gives me purpose. Do you see what I'm getting at? I hope I'm not coming across as judgy as that was not my intention. This is just how I feel towards gamer as an identity.

Yeah I got to remember that culture is a very broad term. When I say gaming culture that could very well encompass every aspect of gaming. I think what I'm angry towards are specific groups and not gaming culture because culture in of itself is a broad term. I'm angry towards the gaming hipsters, charlatans, hype machines and pretty much every negative aspect of gaming culture.
