  1. I've started playing Deus Ex with the GMDX mod and let me say holy shit is this even the same game? I don't remember having this much fun with Deus Ex. The gameplay is so fluid and fast it's practically bringing a joyful tear to my eye. It's beautiful and I'm actually having fun now.
  2. Because they're delicious. Oh no wait those are croutons, simple mistake really.
  3. Yes, but the question is would it be a surprise? Also where's my goddamn flat screen TV?
  4. You started it, this can only go down further into the dark depths below. It's not everyday that I get to make something bad even worse. Hooray for being horrible.
  5. I agree, though now I am genuinely curious as to how programming would be taught to first graders.
  6. What if one of them was previously declared to be infertile? Then it would be a surprise. What if the woman was raped whilst asleep? X3 Then it would be a surprise. By a goat while the man watched because he's into that sort of thing.
  7. What if one of them was previously declared to be infertile? Then it would be a surprise.
  8. Subject#21 That doesn't necessarily mean that most phone users have any interest in programming. That's like saying every book reader has an interest in processed paper and would like to go work at a paper mill. There's a huge gap between people who use phones and people who write code.
  9. I've personally boycotted all games with any kind of DRM. It needs to be either DRM free or on GOG which is also DRM free for me to buy it. I want to ensure that my purchases say "DRM is unprofitable". I also don't pirate because I see it as the primary fuel source for the "We need DRM to protect our IPs" think tank. I understand if people literally have no other options. But if they have other options then they should avoid it IMO. GOG has grown considerably over the years. They've got the Witcher series and a few recent AAA titles too like Dying Light. I'm confident that if we keep pushing we'll get the Dark Soul series on GOG in no time.
  10. I think we as humans are overstepping our authority of what sentience is and could be as our kind of sentience is inherent to us and only us. We can't just assume that an AI will behave in the same way even in regards to our fears. As far as I'm concerned we shouldn't be guessing carelessly because it will only increase our paranoia for something that may or may not be possible.
  11. After a long break and some consideration I'm going to give Deus Ex another shot with one major exceptions. I'm going to bypass the horrific progression system using the allskillpoints and allaugs cheat codes. In theory this should fix most of my problems with Deus Ex. If the only issue I have with the game is the empty levels then I can live with that. If Deus Ex is all about choice then what makes my choice any less valid? I might also consider muting the voices too. Before I start playing Deus Ex I need to know are there any legitimate consequences with nonlethal/lethal playstyles or not? If all I get for murdering everyone in sight is a little slap on the wrist from Paul then I don't really care.
  12. I feel your pain Ross. Leg cramps are the worst. Also which Ross is the evil twin? They both have mustaches.
  13. I have a very important update on Where's The Fair Use. The copyright office in Washington D.C is looking for feedback on the DMCA. We have until April 1st 11:59 PM EST to give comments in regards to it. Please go have your comment be heard and be as descriptive as possible. https://www.takedownabuse.org/ NoIL5qUI1p8
  14. Well negative hyperbole is still hyperbole and I've never been one to trust it. Can't say I'm surprised that they have these ridiculous ideas. I mean Nikola Tesla believed in Eugenics and look how well that turned out to be. If we ever create a sentient AI it's more then likely to just sit there and do nothing. What reason could compel it to do otherwise? People seem to be forgetting "Artificial" side of AI and are only focusing on the "Intelligent" side. You fed instructions into the AI and it spews out results. No instructions equals no results. That process isn't intelligent in the traditional sense.
  15. Okay so these statements are purely hyperbolic then? Come to think of it Elon Musk and Bill Gates might have business reasons for saying them rather then sound, logical ones.
  16. Are there any articles about the risks of AI specifically aimed specifically at programmers? As someone who's a C# programmer I find this sort of thing to be completely befuddling as I've only ever understood programming in a very static sense. Don't get me wrong I'm sure Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates have their reasons and probably infinitely better ones then some random person on the internet who programs such as myself. But for the life of me I cannot understand where they're coming from. I have no background with this sort of advanced AI but having one of them say "AI poses as an existential threat to humans" or something like that isn't good enough for me. I want to get deep into the nit and gritty of this. I'm willing to put in some work in order to understand where logic of AI being possibly being an existential concern to humanity.
  17. My amazing ability to foretell the future says that Jim Sterling will win this case. Shocking I know. Seriously I can't see this going anywhere in Digital Homicide's favor or possibly opening the gates for more hacks to sue more reviewers. Isn't it pretty obvious how this case will go? I don't envy Jim Sterling one bit for all the legal bullshit he has to go through first but to say that this case will go any other than in his favor or that it will open up even more cases like this is just ludicrous.
  18. I did a bit of 3d modeling myself. I have a book to recommend for you called Digital Modeling by William Vaughan http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Modeling-William-Vaughan/dp/0321700899/. It covers highly essential 3d modeling concepts and doesn't pertain to any particular 3d modeling software. So you're free to use whatever 3d modeling software you like.
  19. Alright Ross here are my questions. 1. Do you have any plans to make sure that fixes are implemented for the civilization problems that you've addressed? Spreading ideas alone won't be enough to fix these issues and I highly doubt some of your viewers are congressmen in hiding either. I want to look at this as objectively and realistically as possible with nothing left unaccounted for. I admit I wasn't thinking about robots potentially destroying all of white collar labor until you mentioned it. But what can we actually do about these issues in general? The plans are there but whether or not we can put those plans into action is debatable at best. 2. What do you not like about cooking? Do you find it boring? 3. Have you considered hosting an Unreal Tournament 2004 Onslaught match? Like you I've sunk countless hours playing Unreal Tournament 2004 and would like to see what you've got. I can keep up with bots on Masterful difficulty.
  20. I loved doing math and subjects related to it like programming and chemistry. At one point I remember doing several sheets of long division and enjoying the hell out of them.
  21. Yeah all you need to do is strip away all the stupid, little complexities that humans have and there you go. Robots don't need to be as complex as we are to be smarter then us. Hell I'd say the opposite is true. Why would you give Robots dumb human quirks like emotions and preferences? All those quirks that are "Characteristics of humanity" have effectively impeded us as a species and we would be so much better without them.
  22. Your laptop has so much sin in it that will set the Holy Bible on fire.
  23. I'm only being realistic here. A lot of "How can we make the world better?" ideas seem like exercises in futility to me because the people talking about them don't have any actual power to have them be implemented. If you think I'm in the wrong here then by all means challenge my conclusion because you're right I am a defeatist. Reality is incredibly defeating therefore I see no reason not to be.
  24. Ross I really hate to say this but we can't stop ourselves from being screwed over. The people that have power to implement change don't care. Reality will be like a car with no airbags. Except people do have airbags it's just that the automotive factories won't implement them into the car. We will have to endure the full frontal blow of the car once it crashes and hope we don't wind up severely crippled or dead. Now I'm not trying to depress you. In fact I fully encourage you to say I'm wrong and provide me with a foolproof plan for implementing something. The keyword there is "implementing" and not doing a simple excerise for how we might better ourselves. I want believe that change is possible. It just that I don't think it is. I've never had a point where I can say I was wrong for being pessimistic. I always went "Yep, saw that coming from a mile away. Not like I could do anything about it." and this has always the case. I can't see a reason not to be pessimistic. Sure it sad as hell but if pessimism allows me to see reality for what it truly is then why would should I to stop? Optimism only blinds you to only seeing the things you want to see.
  25. Figured, can't say I expected anything more from the US government. That's the nice thing about pessimism. It keeps your expectations in check. I know that they will never be surpassed. They Therefore they can be lowered indefinitely and I will remain unaffected and apathetic. CGPGrey's videos will sadly amount to nothing more then helping you sleep at night so you don't hang yourself the following day. The voting systems are there but US Governments ability to give a damn isn't. I guess I can say they were atleast enlightening. But then what's the point of having the right ideas if you can't do anything with them? I can say I was right but that's pretty pathetic in of itself.
