Alright here's my argument for Fallout 1's combat being awful. The maximum amount of AP you can acquire is 10(6 + 4AG) and the average AP cost for all ranged weapons is 5. Provided you didn't move during your turn you'll be able to take two shots. Due to the formula for ranged combat (Skill - 30) + ((PE - 2) * 16) - (HEX * 4) - (AC of Target) [- 10% at night if HEX >= 5] Most likely one of your shots will be wasted. Not to mention that a majority of your encounters will be in open fields due to frequent occurrence of random encounters and if you encounter bandits with any sort of ranged weaponry you might as well reload and hope you don't get that same encounter again. If you really wanted to squeeze blood from the stone then you could invest 3 ranks of action boy and take fast shot. Then your action points would be 13(6 + 4AG + 3AB) and with fast shot giving a -1 AP cost to all weapons it's technically 14. But this still only grants you one more shot on average and you'll again most likely miss due to the aforementioned factors. Now I would like to point out that this was fixed in Fallout Tactics since you've got 5 more characters to play with as opposed to your previous 1 character in Fallout 1 & 2.

Hey Ross here are my questions. What's your opinion on Korn? When you said said you like metal with a tune to it Korn was the first band that came to my mind. In your RGD for Revenant you mentioned that you played Fallout 1 to completion. How the hell did you do it? I thought you would absolutely hate Fallout 1 for it's abysmal combat systems. You only get to control one character, can only make 1 action per turn or a glamorous 2 if you take the fast shot trait, are usually up against 15-20 guys at once and you have to watch them take their turn one by one until you get to take your turn again. It's like Chinese water bucket torture if the water was boiling acid. What's worst of all is there are no mods to fix these main issues or to turn it into a decent combat system. I really wanted to play through Fallout 1 to see what all the fuss was about with the story and the lore. But not if it means trudging through one of the worst combat systems ever IMO. What's your opinion on mods? I just recently had a radical shift in opinion on mods. I previously thought that mods were just to add to experience. But I now feel they have the potential to save entire games for people. Case in point is a mod for Deus Ex called GMDX which vastly improves on it. I felt that most of Deus Ex's systems were so poorly implemented to a point where I wasn't having any fun playing the game. Then I installed GMDX and it felt like I was playing an entirely different game even though on the surface it still was the same game. Except I was actually having fun and GMDX saved Deus Ex for me.

Perfect. No no, wait here we go. Nah it just isn't right. This one's the best I think I need help.

That's no excuse for posting his actual name. That's far beyond reasonable. This is a thread for expressing frustation, not doxxing people.

Hmm I never really thought of it like that. Do you feel that birth names sound more proper then nicknames? I've always called a person by whatever name they wanted to be called by. It's not something I'm very conscious of though I do have a pet peeve for pronunciation. For instance I've been playing Witcher 3 and it has names that are pronounced in very particular ways. I think this is due to the game being Polish and the English voice actors were told how those names are actually pronounced. What bothered me was that until a name was mentioned by a character I had no idea how the names were pronounced. I thought Skellige was pronounced Skel-egg but instead it's pronounced Skel-egg-guh and I cringe looking back on the way I initially pronounced it. I Also thought Quen was pronounced just qu-en but again I was wrong it's actually pronounced q-when. -
Despite all my rage I am still just Nicholas Cage.

What about Occult porn? There's probably not much to see since they're all wearing robes.

I remember Jak 2 being brutally difficult. I played and finished 1 previously but I couldn't beat Jak 2. So I just jumped straight into 3 and finished that. Due to this I didn't get what had happened at Jak 3's start and after I had beaten Jak 3 I was determined to beat 2. Once I did beat 2 all the puzzle pieces fit together. It was a rather interesting experience and it's encouraged me to try other series this way where I don't play games in a series in sequential order. -
Thanks for the tip, I was having a really hard time getting the shape of the roof just right. Here's an update on the roof for you. Now do you have any side and/or back reference images you'd like me to use or would you like me to just wing it?

First I am so sorry for taking this long. I tend to forget how obsessive I can get with modeling details. I threw out a lot of drafts and started over from scratch several times. But enough about that. I have made some progress. Here's a screenshot of front of the farm barn. The roof was a bit difficult to get right due to the perspective but I think I did alright. I'll do my best to make it as close to the pictures as possible but I will have to do some guesswork for the rest of the models at some point due to my rather limited reference images. If you have any particular reference images you would like me to use to expand my range let me know.

@Rarity I want to get into the Dark Souls games but I don't know where to start. From what I've heard 1 is good, 2 is bad and 3 is good again. So should I play 1 and then jump to 3? There also seems to be a monstrous amount of lore. What's the best way of tackling all of this for someone who has never played any of the Dark souls games?

I've been meaning to get into the old Fallout games(1,2 Tactics) but I have a problem. For whatever reason I started playing Tactics first and I really enjoyed playing it with multiple characters. Then I played 1 and found the combat to be really unintuitive and drawn out even on the fastest combat speed setting in comparison to Tactics. I was stuck playing one character and due to this I got bored incredibly fast. I made it as far as Junktown and just couldn't keep going. This happened to me about 3-4 times. If the combat was more like Tactics with multiple controllable characters then I probably could get into it. Seriously, why don't I get to control any of my companions? Is Fallout 2's combat any better than 1's or is it largely the same? If that's the case then I might just want to stick with Tactics.

Wait, Jeb's only 16? I never would guessed. I thought she was in her mid-late 20s. Never bothered to check her profile until now though.

@Seattleite have you heard of H.R 642? H.R 642 is a bill that was introduced recently to congress that's trying to get magic to become recognized as a "rare and valuable art form and national treasure". What a magnificent time to be alive in, truly. https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-resolution/642

Physics in general media tend to be more along the lines of spectacle rather then realism. I can't think of any media that is realistic outside of a few titles which sadly are in a niche market. You might want to taper your expectations when it comes to releases from major studios because frankly their target demographic isn't you, me or anyone with a thought in their head.

Well duh Ross, of course the Ramens know all about us. We did create them after all.

I'm pretty that's just the way Seattleite used to talking. He doesn't mean anything by it.

+1 it only takes one mod to wreck the +50 other mods that were working previously and you have no way of knowing beforehand. Maybe if you're lucky the mod's page might list other mods that it conflicts with. But it can't possibly list all of the mods that it will conflict with. I honestly think mod sites like Nexus should have higher standards for curation. mod curation is the freaking wild west and it's one of the main reasons I stopped using +50 mods at once. Getting anything and everything I ever thought looked cool in Morrowind was a nightmare and practically drove me mad. Now I strictly try to avoid mods if I can help it or if I think a few mods would significantly improve a game then I limit myself to about 5 mods total per game. Anymore then that will make my head explode.

But that doesn't make it any less poorly written. The fact that I could come up with something like that in 2 seconds should speak out as to how poorly thought out that audiolog is. What's frustrating is that they did this right the first time with J.S Steinman. Steinman didn't kill a puppy for the hell of it. He was trying to make his vision of the perfect woman and his pursuit drove him mad when he kept failing over and over again. The shock value isn't the focal point with Steinman it's a byproduct and it's also ambiguous. Can you figure out what he did to his clients to make them look like that? Obviously not whereas with Suchong he tells Jack to break the puppies neck and that's literally it. It doesn't mean anything except that Suchong is a dick. It's quite jarring to go from a well written, nuanced character like J.S Steinman and Sander Cohen to completely flat characters like Suchong. I would tend to hold Bioshock a lot higher then pop culture shlock but I suppose you can't help that when developers are willing to make a half assed character.
