  1. Fallout 2: Glad I gave Fallout 2 a chance despite my awful experience with 1 because I'm having a better time with 2. I turned the game difficulty and combat difficulty down to easy and now it doesn't seem that bad if I'm perfectly honest. I'm also convinced that whoever makes character builds for Fallout 2 are mad people. Who in their right mind would want to waste a perk on awareness? It just tells you stuff about the enemy you're fighting which isn't useful at all. You could easily deduce the information awareness provides on your own by fighting the enemy or looking up what the enemies stats are online if you care that much. Totally not worth wasting a perk on it.
  2. Hi Ross here are my questions. 1. What kind of microphone do you use? I'm looking to get a mic that doesn't sound like cheap, muffled, echo garbage without costing a fortune like one of those Blue Yeti Microphones. 2. How much HDD storage space are you currently using to hold all of your content files(Game Dungeon, Machinima, Freeman's Mind, etc)? I saw all those Western Digital Green HDDs you were using and those look like they hold a massive amount of content. I want to start making my own content but first I would like to know how much HDD storage space I'll most likely end up using and knowing how much HDD storage space you use would make for an excellent reference point. I currently have 1 TB of unused HDD storage space on an HDD I've yet to write anything to. I've had it sitting in PC for several months unused but hooked up and ready to go. I feel sorta bad for having forgotten about it for all those months. 3. What kind of SSD would you recommend to get for recording? A lot of people are saying the SAMSUNG 850 EVO is good but I would like to go for a better price if possible. Not so cheap that the SSD will crap out on me and I've had cheap SSDs crap out on me before so I want to be careful about which one I get.
  3. There are better ways of creating a sense of progression such as simply giving you something. Like how you acquire guns in Quake 1 for instance. You don't every gun at the get go but at specific intervals you get new weapons and slowly gain more ammo for said weapons. An experience bar by comparison is completely artificial. Don't get me wrong I hate their guts for being trendy game design hipsters and James Portnow is a fraud but every so often they have a point and this is one of them. An experience bar is exactly like a Skinner box. You do a thing and get a reward for doing said thing. Now you could argue that this concept is more endemic to game design itself than just experience bars and I would totally agree with you there. Since you mentioned EC I would like to point out that they're actually in favor of skinner boxes. It's called Gamification. They've mentioned the dangers of skinner boxes, sesame credit and yet they're still all for Gamification. So what EC says doesn't really matter in this regard because they're giant hypocrites.
  4. When I initially read this I thought you're headbanging to some heavy metal and then I realized that probably wouldn't have resulted in you breaking your glasses.
  5. #29 What is X and Other Similar Questions: These types of questions disturb me on a fundamental level. They aren't questions to begin with and would go as far to say they're anti-intellectual. Take for instance the question "What is Art?". For one the term art itself is nebulous at best and calling something art is an injustice to elements that make up the piece. On one hand I recognize the need for convenience that terms like Art provide but I also find these terms to be a hindrance because they effectively constrict the rhetoric we speak. By creating a compound term like Art we invariably lose ways to describe something due to the convenience that terms like Art provide. So back on track, if the terms like art are nebulous then the question becomes "What is Anything?" or "What is x?" which is a completely asinine question which adds nothing to the overall conversation. This in turn weakens the overall conversation and leaves it intellectually lacking. Those question are posed purely for sound cool and deep without having to be either.
  6. Level based progression: Level based progression is a testament to just how much contempt game developers have for their players. Nope, we can't just let you have everything from the get go your brain would probably explode and leak out your ears. Instead of doing things in a simple manner let's make you do a bunch of meaningless grinding to slowly increment a pointless xp bar that goes ding every time you hit what we've designated as levels and at each level you get something. Your our bitch in a Skinner box and we'll make sure you know it. Not to mention this mechanic has infected every website and AAA video game under the sun like a cancer. If you can think of a way to implement one odds are it's there. If level based progression had just stuck to RPGs then I wouldn't be complaining about it but it's everywhere now.
  7. They might be bullshit to you but not to us. The things that I've said, you've said and Psychotic said are just our opinions, nothing more. So why are you treating our opinions as fact when they aren't? What are you fighting for here? Nothing is lost when someone expresses their opinion because it's just that, an opinion.
  8. That post wasn't meant to be taken literally. I was just a bit frustrated because it felt like my opinion being attacked for merely being stated. Is asking for a niche option setting really that bad? It's just my opinion and I don't think I was being unreasonable with it. Sure I was gripey but I didn't hold it over peoples' heads saying "my opinion is the only right one.". As I said before opinions don't hurt you. People can have specific opinions and they have the right to express them. In that same vein they should also be respectful to others' opinions because they're just as valid.
  9. In regards to English and grammar I only hold myself accountable and even then I don't always follow my rules consistently. A nice little guideline for myself but nothing more. In all honesty it doesn't really matter. Like all human conflicts it boils down to people groveling over tiny, insignificant amounts of power.
  10. HoMM 5: Yeah, I think I'm done with HoMM 5 for a while. Hard isn't hard exactly. You just have to have great foresight and micromanage like crazy. If you suck at either (like me) you're effectively screwed on hard.
  11. I did the exact same thing except replace Fallout 4 with Skyrim. Back then I hated anyone who liked Skyrim because I hated Skyrim. Sure I still hate Skyrim but I've turned my hatred for it down a few notches because looking back on it just feels unnecessary amongst the rest of my critiques. It's like I was trying to validate my opinion to someone even though said person didn't really exist.
  12. Does it matter if Psychotic is? Even though I enjoy insane levels of difficulty I recognize that's not to everyone's taste and thus I don't try to turn other peoples' opinions into my own. I do this out of respect for other peoples' opinion because they're opinion is just as valid as mine. I mean it's not like Psychotic's opinion is going to destroy Dark Souls in it's entirety so honestly why do you care?
  13. Fall Damage: Who thought this was a good idea? It adds literally nothing to the game outside the headache from having to reload a save after your character gets killed from fall damage. Also why would I care for realism in Quake 1 of all things?
  14. And for you it may very well be. Keep in mind I'm a masochist when it comes to difficulty. I rarely find the default difficulty to be satisfying so I usually crank it up as high as it will go. I'm someone who played Doom on the highest difficulty, stopped because it was too easy and moved on to Quake 1 on Nightmare difficulty. I also play UT 2004 with the A.I difficulty set to Masterful(Third highest difficulty out of eight different difficulty settings). Now those are just shooters that I mentioned but that's usually the guideline I like to follow as I usually find most games to be too easy. My brain works best when it comes to simple and fast mechanics so I suck at something like turn-based strategy and real-time strategy. I have been working on my RTS skills but I've been playing Heroes of Might and Magic V and suck horribly at it. I mean I love the series but I'm terrible at it and have no idea why.
  15. Heroes of Might and Magic 4: HoMM 4 is my favorite HoMM title. HoMM 4 so different and versatile compared to the other HoMM games which are good games but feel generic when compared to HoMM 4. HoMM 4 was a risk taker and IMO it paid off. But apparently HoMM fans didn't appreciate the changes for some reason and bashed HoMM 4 for not being HoMM 3.
  16. Not to mention the great sense of false power and independence that comes with declaring yourself as Asexual. The "I don't need a companion to be happy" idea or the "I don't need what everyone else needs" idea are compelling exactly for these reasons. It makes you believe that you're 10x better than everyone else because from your perspective it's something they need that you don't. Gosh, the more I think about this the more I realize I'm an asshole who'll unconsciously demonize people, even myself for any perceived inefficiency. It's a very unhealthy way of thinking because when you fuck up you won't be able to tolerate that you fucked up and that you're human. Even now the idea that I'm a human with flaws and that's okay is a very tough pill to swallow.
  17. No offense but how ignorant do you have to be to slack off someone's opinion as braindead? It's in my face and I would like an option to turn it off, simple as that. Next thing you know there might not even be an options menu in future titles. God forbid developers leave their comfortably lazy hug boxes created by fans that will die defending them so developers little feelings don't get hurt. You know what if developers can't handle dealing with criticism then they should leave the games industry and go hang themselves for all the unnecessary bullshit they bring along with them. Fuck that mentality and fuck those people, they deserve nothing. I shouldn't have to go this far to get my goddamn point across and defend it for merely existing, Jesus fucking Christ.
  18. 7MfOKIB8uMk Because fuck everyone in my nearest vicinity. YOU SHALL KNOW MY PAIN!!!!!!!
  19. I'm offended by this post.
  20. Interesting question, I'm of the opinion that balanced, fact based and unbiased sources are important a degree. You have to be somewhat grounded in order to form an accurate conclusion otherwise you're basically creating fiction. However these aspects will invariably be distorted due to differences in interpretation, time and a combination of both. We're either bad at archiving or the people that have archived(such as collectors) sources want to keep those sources closed off in order for them to become more valuable in the future. For instance do we know 100% how 18th century people lived? No, we might get it close but we can't be 100% sure. There might be some key aspects that would be unfortunate if we missed and we will miss them. IMO human error doesn't help keep sources grounded but it isn't the sole reason for why our information is as unreliable as it is.
  21. Yep, that describes the gameplay I've experienced perfectly, except the monsters are very fast. Unless I'm mistaken the monsters I've seen in Dark Souls videos are very slow.
  22. Half in the Bag. Mike and Jay are my kind of people.
  23. My experience usually goes along the lines of this. *Types out long detailed post for 30 minutes. *accidentally deletes post. *Fucks off.
  24. Witcher 3: Decided to start over with the Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition Mod and it's awesome. The combat is now challenging, satisfying and I love it. People were saying how it makes the combat similar to Dark Souls but I honestly have no idea. Are you sure it was a witch and not a sorceress? Also be sure not to confuse witch with herbalist either.
  25. Well there's the Games You've Finished Recently thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8350 and the games you love too much thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8343 those are positive right? My pet peeve thread while currently three pages long hasn't been posted to in two days. While I'm not exactly helping the issue because I'm a gripey and whiny little nerdling the trend seems to be dying down.
