What game universe do you want to live in?
BidetoftheDead replied to Reverend_UshankaCat_'s topic in Gaming in general
The only Fallout game that is not part of the Fallout series is that really awful Brotherhood of Steel. Otherwise all games are part of the same universe with the only exception being tactics which is only semi-canon because a game after it has yet to confirm an ending for tactics. New Vegas can also be seen as semi-canon (because it doesn't have a canon ending yet) but it definitely did happen. Er, though I think we're getting a bit too off topic right now, maybe this discussion is better in it's own thread. -
Do big name games get good ratings JUST because of big name?
BidetoftheDead replied to Meelis13's topic in Gaming in general
While I agree with you on SF5 on the other hand Fallout 4 is a very good game. GOTY is just a personal opinion, it has no weight in anything other then the person or people's opinions. Many of the fans are either standard "Oh the previous game was miles better" people which has been a traditional of Bethesda games since Daggerfall's release or people upset over the removal of arbitrary stuff like karma and skills (while ignoring from a gameplay AND roleplaying viewpoint weren't good systems.) or obsidian fans who are simply upset it wasn't made by Obsidian. Some of the "fans" that hated it never even played the game, instead listening only to rumors and hearsay from a few disgruntled fans which lead to the astro-turfing of Fallout 4's metacritic pages. -

Addendum: Assuming said fans will let you! [sorry about this snarky post, I'm just bummed out by unimaginative lore nazis turning franchises into their own private fiefdoms] I can't speak for Warhammer or Trek but the TES lore community is generally positively receptive to people making their own stuff, the only time that isn't the case is few new fans who think "Nope, lore is what Bethesda says it is" Funny how those fans will also ignore the spin-offs, the novels and ESO. -
I think we're witnessing Ross getting his ass kicked by a ghost right here.

Other countries/locations in the Fallout universe
BidetoftheDead replied to Selfsurprise's topic in Gaming in general
I honestly don't buy the idea that the only place habitable is America and I think it was just the original devs trying to write off doing another country. Hell, a lot of survivors in America weren't even from vaults. They were just people that got lucky. The only settlements/groups that I can think of that were made by vault dwellers is Shady Sands, Arroyo, Vault City and the Great Khans otherwise everyone else was primarily descendants of people who survived the Great War. -

I think the Morag Tong needs a valid and legal reason to make a writ on them. So it has to be a valid family dispute or a valid reason to go after a higher member of a House (i.e. to stop a house war or a feud between families which is kinda their whole reason for being around) but of course there is no rule saying a Telvanni master couldn't become a Morag Tong agent as well, I did that quite a lot in Morrowind -
An SP version of the Division would've been cool. I really love it's setting and would make for a great open world game but I'm not a big fan of multi-player games.

I've started watching some on-going series again and I have to say my choices of what to watch has been astonishingly good. Dimension W for instance is a a good cyberpunk story. In 2036 where a new dimension, Dimension W, was discovered and it turned out by putting 60 large power plant facilities built by the goverments of the world but run by the company New Tesla. The show takes place around 2071 where New Tesla has a world wide monopoly on these power plants as well as fusion coils that act as batteries, simply called coils. Though, of course, people still make illegal coils which are actually pretty harmful due to how unstable they get, this leads to our protagonist Kyoma, a special ops war veteran turned coil hunter who in the first episode meets the side-kick Mira a advanced robot with artificial intelligence made by the discoverer of Dimension W. Despite it's occasional fan-service of Mira it's a rather good show that has an interesting plot and cast of characters. I'd recommend giving it a watch Next is Boku Dake ga Inai Machi or ERASED is a story about a manga artist who has the random power of going back in time, before it was only for a few seconds before whenever a accident was about to happen but due to certain circumstances he is sent all the way back to when he was in grade school in order to stop a serial murderer of grade school girls by trying to prevent certain circumstances of the first victim's murder. I can't really say much without spoiling it but it's definitely better then I'm probably making it out to be, I'd definitely give it a watch as it's a really interesting murder mystery that makes you really anticipate the next episode and finally we reached the Gundam part of my watch list. Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans takes place in it's own timeline (like a lot of the Gundam series) where it doesn't take place during a war but AFTER a war, 300 years to be exact, dubbed the "calamity war" where the Moon was badly damaged and all of the previous governments of the earth sphere went into full collapse. The result of the war is best described as capitalism happened. The earth was now governed by four economic blocks that hold complete control of the colonies in space and on mars, this control is basically tyranny as the workers are paid next to nothing and treated badly leading to areas like Mars and colonies where low-wage workers live to become little more then poverty-stricken slums. The show follows Tekkadan who are a group of kids, some voluntary others as slaves, work for a mercenary group on Mars. The kids are treated poorly by the first class members of the mercenary group and some are even subjected to dangerous and outdated medical treatments that improve their ability to pilot mobile walkers and mobile suits. This system basically means they can even pilot a mobile suit without even needing the ability to read. The teenagers of the group get so pissed off at the first class that they revolt, either killing or kicking out the old members and taking over the group. The newly formed Tekkadan now takes up a contract previously given to the original mercenary group's leadership to escort Kudelia Bernstein a young daughter of a politician of one of the economic blocks to earth in order to negotiate Martian independence. It's writing is alright but it's real charm like in most Gundam shows are the battles and mecha designs which I feel are really good. It's an enjoyable show to watch.

I recently got Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and Sleeping Dogs. I have a lot of great things to say about how great Sleeping dogs is and nothing good to say about Dragon's Dogma. Slime Rancher is really cute and amazing, I can't wait to see what they do with future content. Kinda hope they expand on the ranch to let it hold more plots of ground.

Other countries/locations in the Fallout universe
BidetoftheDead replied to Selfsurprise's topic in Gaming in general
Originally the previous Fallout devs said they'd never do another country but now that Bethesda is running the show I'd love to see something in Asia or Europe in the Fallout universe, show Vault-Tec and the Enclave weren't the only ones who decided "we should build large bunkers and underground complexes" Like a game set in the ruins of Hong Kong or set in Mexico, they would kinda be really cool. -

Just for fun and the hell of it. A lot of Elder Scrolls fans do this kind of stuff and it's pretty fun to get into. Also while it does border on sci-fi it kinda fits for Morrowind since Morrowind is the most alien land in the entire series. -
I really love watching LP's of a really awful game called Blue Stinger. It's a real treat how god damn awful this game is.

I..I actually wrote lore documents which made living in Telvanni towers seem like a really good idea. Like my understanding was that a councilor or just inhabitant could, through magic, alter the tower however they wanted. The spores would actually act more like a way to bath and clean out one's insides before evaporating and that the inside of the pods could change the smell, feel, warmth and taste of the air depending on what the inhabitant wants I mean, c'mon they're towers made by powerful mages that are kinda alive. They're practically suited for being engineered like that. -
Honestly no Jeb hit it, even online I have a real tough time interacting with people. I'm only really good in group chats or on forums like this.

That game you hate that everyone else loves.

Amnesia - It's not scary at all, it's actually really boring Dead Space - Same as Amnesia, it's try-hard scary at best and everything about it is just so boring FNAF - It's actually more comedic then scary and I think the whole "OH WE GOT YOU HAHA Jump scares are the only good way to scary people!" is stupid Dragon's Dogma - Artificially difficult for the sake of being difficult, abysmal quest design, bad writing, it's just overall boring as hell The Souls games - I will never understand the hype of this series, it's so boring that I can't even watch ten minutes of it without passing out. Bloodborne - Same as the souls games Dragon Age - I honestly don't get it. Origins was the most generic fantasy game I've ever played and shows nothing interesting for itself and none of the characters are interesting because at this point Bioware is just using template characters for everything, the same goes for 2 and Inquisition. -

I'd prefer to be a token Orc in some hold, doing a really un-orcish job in order to confuse the local Nords. The Dark Elves are my favourite of the mer, so good choice! :3 I started with Morrowind way back when I was like, 13-14 so Dunmer and their culture have stuck with me xD -
I just finished Sleeping Dogs and I'm actually surprised by how good it is, so good I think I'll do a complete playthrough again even though I already beat it. I also started a new character in Skyrim lately, a Dunmer male which is the first time in a few years.

It's probably not something you're looking for but Fallout Shelter is a really fun mobile game. It's also one of those games you never really need to buy anything for and it's easy to just pick up, play for awhile then put down. Well Bethesda has been saying they want to do mobile games, they even opened up a studio in Montreal for their mobile game division so while Morrowind might not be ported over we may see stuff like the classic Fallout games (Which I think Bethesda owns now? I'm not entirely sure) and the classic TES games. I kinda want them to make a mobile port of stuff like Battlespire, Redguard and the old TES travels games mostly because Shadowkey was actually suppose to be a really well made game.

I'm binge watching the first 9 seasons (Ohlord is this going to take awhile) before turning to the new season, I'm kinda amazed I never watched this stuff because as a kid I was obsessed with space, ghosts, aliens, demons, etc etc and this show just feels tailored for me.

Unemployment and social anxiety has been really getting to me as of late, been really hard to keep in touch with friends and people and I just generally feel useless and alone nowadays.

If I can change my race alongside it I would love to be in the Elder Scrolls universe as a Telvanni-born Dunmer. Elder scrolls and studying it's lore is like, two of my biggest passions and the chance to be a wizard lord of House Telvanni and become powerful as hell that would be a dream come true.
