Dead Game News: (Asheron's Call, Ghost In The Shell, Hawken)
Presence replied to Ross Scott's topic in Other Videos
It's fantastic that you're doing this, but you missed some important parts of the Asheron's Call's story. It didn't die. It was murdered. Turbine was explicitly making end of life plans for player servers. I personally saw the "Player run servers" link in the launcher notes, and it's said that they released data to help people create server emulators. I've read posts from multiple Turbine employees saying they planned to release everything and maybe do a full hand off. And...then Warner Brother's lawyers happened. http://mmofallout.com/turbine-reneges-on-private-server-plans-shutting-down-asherons-call/ http://massivelyop.com/2017/09/18/asherons-call-emulator-lead-explains-what-went-down-with-the-cease-and-desist/ https://imgur.com/a/GFoWn -
Happy Thanksgiving Ross! I'm sure it's an enormously popular holiday in Poland.

Ross, the Vivaldi browser does let you middle click to close a tab and to disable the close tab buttons. Sadly it lacks scrolling tabs and operates on the inferior "shrink to fit" method. I know several ex-firefox users have asked for scrolling tabs, so hopefully that can happen.

Freeman starts feeling terrible motion sickness. (Which that hateful damn airboat caused me plenty of.) He finds some pills labeled "Dramamine" in secret compartment. He is wants to get one working as fast as possible in case he needs to aim at something and crushes it. Feels rush of euphoria and experiences feelings of invincibility.

I don't like the new naming convention, but I get why you're doing it. Please do switch from parentheses to a hyphen or pipe. Ross's Game Dungeon is not some kind of (by the way).

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: LIFE IS STRANGE DEMO
Presence replied to Ross Scott's topic in Ross's Game Dungeon
It was a period of spectacular tech advancement, but before tech started converging. We grew up playing the very first user friendly computers and game systems. We were there for their entire evolution, but predated any meaningful internet. People whose childhood encompassed the C64, Apple II's, Atari, NES and SNES feel more than a little separation from people who grew up using AOL and the Playstation. -
That was probably the best game dungeon yet. Definitely in the top three at least.

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: LIFE IS STRANGE DEMO

Pretty much why I stopped playing all adventure and moral choice games. Although I am certainly going to play Hiveswap. -
Brief humorous video on the Hazardous Course 2 HL mod. It explicitly aims to be the I Wanna Be the Guy of HL mods. The full mod is high quality with many secret rooms and such. Might not be fun gameplay for someone who's done HL as a job, but it deserves a look. Some of Lasanga Cat is pretty amazing. May or may not be one's cup of tea, but the newer stuff has probably the highest production values I've seen in any youtube parody. Most of their stuff is making parody music videos from the garfield strip at the beginning, but there's also an hour long monologue about a single strip and a four hour loop video where they actually do act out the names and change things over time.

Not trying to act entitled, but I'd have liked a status update on the play session. Helps me to plan my Saturdays.

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: ARMED & DELIRIOUS
Presence replied to Ross Scott's topic in Ross's Game Dungeon
1. To conceal the optimal order of movement and make the game feel less linear. 2. To arrange the files for space efficiency such that one doesn't have to ship an extra disk. 3. The discs WERE intended to be in sequence, but changes during production now make the game call on assets in a new way. Whoever is making the disks either can't fix the problem or lacks the foresight to predict one. 4. The game is so insanely convoluted there's no point in trying to sort the data. (probable case here) -
ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: ARMED & DELIRIOUS

I am both thrilled and dismayed that this got a Game Dungeon. I'm thrilled that my curiosity has finally been satisfied. Thank you so much for enduring it for us all. I'm dismayed because I am repulsed by...well, everything about it. I will say it wasn't as heavy on what I'd call "bathtub aesthetic" as I had expected. That would be where 'surreal' animation looks like they dumped the contents of their junk drawer and garden into a bathtub and filmed the results. It's definitely there to some extent, but if anything this looked to influenced more by Terry Gilliam than broken staplers. -
Ross said the game's title starts with an 'A'. I'm hoping for Alien Logic.

I'm surprised you don't interpret Alyx as simply being insane. She grew up during the apocalypse, and her role models were obsessive and neurotic BEFORE their world collapsed. Yes, you're right, she's NOT behaving like a normal person. “Robots are the only friends I need.” -- Best friend is a robot. Could be a nice dawning realization for Gordon that she's as "sensible" as he is. You'd have to reinterpret her naivete about the cat I guess. Just a thought.

Hey Ross, I think your website is fine. The main thing I think it needs is some flavor of "autospoiler large images" option.
-
The thing about Shadowrun mages being able to hit anything they can see is it's literally "Are photons from the target reaching your eyes enough that you can make out their image?" Telescopes, mirrors, and fiber optics all count. Mirror on a stick was very useful. The only reason they can't hit the moon is there's no mana in space. Their main disadvantage is that casting any spell requires resisting stun or even physical damage.

What does that supposed to mean? It means that Windows and Mac OS have natively supported zip compression for more than 15 years. It's normal in the sense that nearly everyone on the internet has immediate access to it. The smiley face means "I'm not being especially serious here." The main problem isn't even rar per se. The main problem is most searches one might do in order to find a utility to open a rar will bring one to adware laden software.
-
Since most of the players won't have rar support, you should link to 7zip so they don't wind up downloading winrar or pkzip. For windows say that they should open or associate the file with the 7zip file manager. Either that or the host can upload a zip like a normal person. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Personally I want some vehicle light maps. And a howitzer.

MOON GAMING: CYRIL CYBERPUNK PROGRAMMER INTERVIEW
Presence replied to Ross Scott's topic in Other Videos
You know, you might make moon gaming about playing a game with a developer of the game. -
Yes, that was why I said it'd be a good idea to refuse "laptop mic callers". My idea here is that by saying "no integrated audio" you keep out 95% of the riff-raff*. Asking that a potential guest put down fifteen bucks for a bullet mic or something means you'll get people who are willing to commit somewhat to being worthwhile. In other words, people who are willing to put their money where their mouths are will also be the types to, say, play the game beforehand and come up with interesting things to talk about. This was actually the solution to a Kingdom of Loathing meetup problem. They had serious problems when saying "Who plans to come, we need to plan venue size." They'd get 400 signups and 300 no shows. BUT, if they said "Ten bucks to register." they got 200 signups and 10 no shows. They talked about that being the reason for the fee quite a few times. *This is not to imply that people who cannot afford a microphone are riff-raff.

My suggestion with Moon Gaming wasn't so much "be identical to the April Fool's episode" but to use a similar theme. 5-15 minute video for a game that's interesting but wouldn't warrant a Game Dungeon. Good place for fan requested games. Heck, good place for fans. Talk about the game, but with a few lines cut in for prescripted story. Fake background/avatar for the guest. Guest should be supplying "not laptop mic" audio and that's it unless they have a recording studio. This would be a fantastic place to have third party editing. Think Space Ghost Coast to Coast. One of the better ones.

There's a few variants, but unseen_dead_turtle is from the worst critical fumble in Lord of the Rings RPG. "Stumble over an unseen imaginary deceased turtle. You are very confused. Stunned 3 rounds." I didn't get to play Zombie Panic last time and would like a chance at that.
-
Last time you listened to the majority, we had a RotMG play session... I agree with you in principle, but they're putting their money where their mouths are. Donations are up significantly. It's ok though. Ross is like pizza. When he's good he's great, and when he's bad...wait, I've never actually seen that happen. Idea for next April first: Ross's Grub Dungeon: "LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT AUDIBLE, HARRY'S, AND THE GREAT COURSES PLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111one."

I was sad when Gordon didn't say of the tripods "Now things are beginning to make sense." I like Freemans Mind, but it's the Game Dungeons I stick around for and rewatch. They make me laugh, and they also make me think. I accept that the FM fans are important enough to push the series forward at a faster pace. Quantity has is a quality all its own. Still, I really hope there's a way to not sacrifice too much from the projects that garner genuine enthusiasm and insight.
