The Logitech G900 seems kinda close, but has scroll wheel. You can explicitly customize the side buttons to your preference in an ambidextrous fashion. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Spectrum-Professional-Wireless-Ambidextrous/dp/B01CEFEMFW/ My best scroll wheel alternative was that I remember there being such a thing as mice that replace the wheel with a touch strip in the middle. But near as I can tell this idea had an abortive launch around Windows 8 and hasn't gone anywhere. Certainly it has never gone into a good mouse. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Sculpt-Bluetooth-Windows-Tablets/dp/B008OEHPPM/ Honestly I think you'll have to accept defeat on the scroll wheel front. Which is annoying, because now I'm paying attention to mine and also think it is uncomfortable.

Looks to me like you take a lot of notes in Notepad/Wordpad. I’d like to recommend the program Joplin to you. It is a free open source Evernote replacement. It allows syncing (if you want to) between devices by your choice of service or hardware, lets you use markdown and/or a good-enough WYSIWYG mode, encryption, and is easy to export stuff from if the people writing it all explode.

Professional usability expert Jakob Nielsen has done research on exactly this topic for decades, eyetracking and all. He focuses more on business websites since those are his customers, but all the same goals carry over. The ultra short version is that he heavily advocates minimalism and ease of finding things. He was quite proud that his old website had only one image on the homepage; a little 1kb arrow icon. A video he released on June 12: How UX has changed in 30 years. He's a person to pay attention to if you're passionate about UI on a grand scale. Not sure if you have the time? He gives time estimates for all written articles and videos. https://www.nngroup.com/articles/

Very good, although I think you got Youtubed; there's a couple of patches of heavy compression in the early bits. Man, the airboat still makes me want to hurl. I think I'll need to watch those sections windowed.

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: HALLOWEEN SAMPLER #1
Presence replied to Ross Scott's topic in Ross's Game Dungeon
I don't object to you using an old controller, but I do weep to see anyone using a controller with one of those disgraceful blob d-pads. -
I never had one, you must be thinking of someone else.

That accent was quite a big hit with the audience. I think you've got some material for an episode of FM, or at least an April 1 video. Oh, and if you were interested, I was talking about this kind of thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zorbing

I do not own a sword, but I do own a grappling hook. I'm left wondering where I am on the spectrum of Wolfhound being a good film for me.

DEAD GAME NEWS: LAWBREAKERS, STREAMING, STEAM
Presence replied to Ross Scott's topic in Other Videos
Lawbreakers looks very beautiful. I'd love to walk around in that. -
I'm speaking more to his videos. He does plenty of fantastic content, but his sound environment is terrible and his editing does him no favors. He'll cut from clear as a bell digitized effects, then to echo laden shots of himself talking to the camera, then to decent quality dubbing, then to echo laden pov shots.

I'd agree the main thing the 8-Bit guy needs help with is sound design.

When you're an artistic patron, you're not a customer. You are not buying art, you're supporting an artist. I see a debate here about how one should respond to an artist who goes totally dark for a while. The dilemma is simple and complicated at the same time. It's simple because whether you're putting a penny in a guitar case or gifting a sculptor a hundred thousand dollars a year, no one "owes" anyone anything. It's a donation. It's complicated because one cared enough to donate in the first place. Ross can go for another eighteen months without a single video and I'll keep donating every month. That said, hmm, how do I say this in the nicest way I can? "I only want anything." Tweet a photo of yourself with an improvised french fry mustachio every month. That would be enough. "Hi, I'm OK, I have food, and I'm in a place where I can goof off a little." I don't expect a vlog or long explanation to "make up" for missed time. I don't feel resentful or angry, but by the same token I'm patronizing a black hole right now and it's unpleasant. I hope I'm not sounding weird or demanding or creating stress. That isn't my intent.

Oh, you do not want to go this road because then we'll remember the American natives and you'll look really awkward I can't tell if you're being serious. If you are being serious, I've never met any other American who felt awkward talking about how the Native Americans were treated. We learn about it in grade school. Some people think there's too much of a 'noble savage' ideology being promulgated, but feel awkward talking about atrocities being committed by all sides. I don't think that's the kind of awkward you mean though.

I see a lot of posts about dehumidifiers, but since Ross hasn't got air conditioning, wouldn't an ac unit be a more logical thing to try? I know mine has a dehumidify mode.

I saw a video on making a cheap home air filter. Possible stopgap for the problem?

I'm ignorant about this topic, but perhaps there's a place with cheap rehearsal booths nearby? You probably don't need an equipped studio, but just a practice booth. I wish you'd stop resisting smartphones. One would help you right now. Even an old smartphone can handle all your basic computing needs, especially in Europe which has a reputation for inexpensive carriers. Buy a used Note 5, a chromecast or similar, and cheap bluetooth keyboard+mouse. ~$200

What style of wallet is he using at 19:11? That thing looks pretty nice. I mean, of course it's hand made, but surely it conforms to a specific type.

A92f is hex for 43311. Pity there's no extra digit in there, might make for some kind of easter egg passcode. Unless 043311 counted.

Personally I hated much of HL2's design, and it won't get old with me if the cracks get pointed out. It has a few good sections, but about half the game is so rigidly linear it's a borderline rail shooter. The physics engine and atmosphere are what saved the game for me. Other things I found annoying: NPC allies not obeying "stay here" commands. The airboat, due to motion sickness. Enemies popping from cover with such predictable timing it was like a metronome. The infinite rocket crates + pathetic rocket storage capacity. "Here is the spot where you have permission to fight the helicopter." That crap in particular really took me out of the game. As for HL1's design flaws...sure it had a million, but be fair for the time period. Much of the reason HL1 was beloved was it had extremely plausible design compared to previous games. Useful stuff is placed near corpses, outposts, and storage areas. Compare that with ID's games, where you encounter rows of power-ups on the ground and illuminated shrines dedicated to...a suit of body armor.

I think you did an excellent job, but it frustrates me when people pair the term "nonprofit" with the definition "Not interested in making money". I know you know that a lot of organizations invested as nonprofits are actually just loophole based for profit companies. I was also a little sad you didn't relate the Asheron's Call situation to the greater topic, where the original IP holder WANTED to to the right thing, but then another company destroyed the game on purpose. Aside from that though, I thought you made many good points I hadn't heard before.

The common cause of audio crackling is a graphics card doing inappropriate things with a bus. I could rewrite that sentence, but that would be a crime. My previous video card would frequently start crackling audio after bitcoin mining for a while. This would persist until cold reboot, even if I reset the sound drivers. I think anyone who's been using gaming computers for long enough has also hit the old "scroll bar grinding" effect. Sadly, the only fully isolated sound card I know if is made by people I will never buy a sound card from. I think one of the Kol developers once told a story where they got drunk and tried to go joyriding in a schoolbus, although I might be misremembering.

I remember you saying you were interested in Babylon 5 but weren't sure if you'd get into it. I encountered a guide to watching the show for those interested in watching an abridged version. https://www.geek.com/geek-cetera/babylon-5-condensed-how-to-watch-sci-fis-most-intimidating-masterpiece-1613627/

This is why I download all your videos. This is probably a stupid idea, but you could release the videos to someone who does live in the US and who is willing to tell the worthless garbage to go hang themselves.

It looks as if you dodged a bullet by avoiding Patreon. They've just adopted an "If you're not a whale, you're worthless" stance that's exactly counter to their original purpose of cutting fees by aggregating microtransactions. As someone who uses paypal for recurring donations, do you have any thoughts on yearly vs monthly donation cycles?
