Steam, Tracks, Trouble & Riddles: Chapter One

Congratulations to both the author and you, Ross! I do have a bug report to submit, though: The "reverse direction" wheel doesn't work on level one and the magnet will not go past halfway to the left. -

Are you sure the audio isn't turned off? -
"What the hell? Fucking BREEN is in charge?" "Tell me Dr. Freeman, if you can. You have destroyed so much. What is it exactly that you have created? Can you name even one fucking thing?" "Good job Gordon, throwing that switch and all, I can see your M.I.T. education really fucking pays off." "What fucking cat?" That's my contribution. I love it when Freeman is angry and all, but like morphine, it should be given in small dosages.

A few days ago I was testing the avisynth script you gave us in the "help make Freeman's Mind HD" video and demoing in the source engine. Coincidentally, it was in the teleportation chamber. May I ask if it was the portal behind the railing and Port 4 (in particular) that were giving you trouble? Was the glitch kind of a "flash" to other parts of the map for a brief period of time? Just curious as to whether or not we experienced the same glitch. Loved the episode as always, Ross. Especially so since I love when Freeman gets angry. My favorite joke has to be the one about Microsoft.

Steam, Tracks, Trouble & Riddles: Chapter One

It's free (Winrar for Windows, Mac, Linux FreeBSD and Android: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm). I haven't got the game setup, but I have downloaded it. I assume you extract it to a folder of the same name. When I downloaded it, all I got was a folder (entitled 'rar') containing some scripts. Is the picture I attached how the inside of that folder is supposed to look? AFAIK, winrar on mac is command only, but a GUI can be found here (http://www.unrarx.com/). Install the GUI, and when you open the mod's RAR file you should see something similar to this: -

The process should be the same as on windows: From the included PDF file: Exit Steam 2 Extract the file named STTR_Ch1_V1_01.rar and paste it into your sourcemod folder. 3 You will find this folder under your Steam installation, e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\sourcemods ( /Users/(Your User Name)/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/sourcemods for Macs) 4 Restart Steam 5 You will find the mod in your library under Games, named S.T.T. & R. Just press play. 6 Have fun and solve all the riddles -
If he does get to Half-Life 2, I don't think he's gonna call it Freeman's Mind 2. I think he's just gonna continue the episodes in numerical order. "Follow the thoughts of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a 47 year old physicist and neurotic individual. In this episode, Freeman is awoken by a familiar face, does trash pickup, wanders through City 17 and runs from the cops, just like Eddie."

I got the Valve Complete pack, so I have all the games. I think the last update to it was a patch in march, so it's probably more stable. -

Downloading right after Crylife (It's supposed to be an awesome mod) finishes. Edit: For those that want to play this, but don't have Half Life, for some reason, you're in luck. the Valve complete pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/29197/) is $121 dollars off today, and Episode 2 is $1.99. -
Yeah, but in Freeman's defense, it's kind of hard to focus with a Gargantua in the room.
-
its a reference to the earlier episodes of Freemans mind aint? Yes it is! When he enters the office complex and comments on all these ridiculous signs hanging on the walls. There was also "Scheduled Chaos Theory" but I can't remember if it was Ross's invention or already in the game... Coincidentally, I am at the office complex of my playthrough. (Don't mind the cheats. It's a practice run. I have no idea how many times I've finished this game.) http://i.imgur.com/occHkiT.jpg It was in the game.

However, Freeman's comments on the layout of Black Mesa are wonderful, and the teleportation chamber can be a good source for that kind of rant. Besides that, a good player can do the teleportation chamber in under 15 minutes. Freeman can just jump into the "correct" chambers and chalk it up to "they all go to the same place, anyway." The guess/check is what really takes up the most of the time. Edit: I am going to time myself to see how I do. Edit 2: 3 minutes, 19 seconds, and 372 milliseconds from where Freeman was when he went to Uplink, to the entrance to the Level A floor. Edit 3: I actually want to see how far I can take this. Current time: 1 minute, 30 seconds, and 14 milliseconds. Edit 4: 1 minute, 7 seconds and 10 milliseconds. I was not expecting that. I'm done, obviously. That was fun! Damn, dude! Thats fast! Thanks! I got it down to 50 seconds, actually. Yeah, it was. You were originally supposed to be betrayed by one of the science team members, but Valve couldn't do it, for some reason. I think it's still in that early Alpha of Half Life that was released last year. Not sure whether uplink is cannon or not, but I don't think it is.

I could see that. I know I wouldn't be too keen on jumping into a giant glowing death ball in the middle of a huge tower with rotating stuff around it. Even if I already knew they were teleporters, that whole thing screams "high enough energy to melt my flesh". Then again, I wouldn't be so keen on jumping between platforms either. Also, if I recall correctly, they are way to different in height to be able to jump up to, even with slick pull ups. Especially Port 09. I think, if anywhere, that's where Freeman would get skittish.

At the end when he is throwing all the grenades at the Gargantua guy, one of the grenades (the first one, in fact) hits an invisible wall and comes back at him. Since he has nowhere to go to avoid the blast, in the script he just ignored it and pretended he didn't throw it, claiming that he hesitated. It's not especially noticeable, actually. +Repd' you for that. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out, but I KNEW it was at the end. Thanks!

I'm convinced that your avatar isn't a gif, but a livestream from your home.

You beat me to it! Anyway, great episode as always, Ross. Freeman's response to the Gargantua was the best moment. I thought he would have commented on Gman.

I just realized it's been 25 years since communist dissapeared, and we're still a former communist country :/ When is long enough not to be "former" ? =p I also just realized I'm being manipulated (by myself), since what I reply and what you think about school in Poland... determines what you'll think about Ross =p... so I won't reply. well, in areas that were under communist rule for 50 or so years, school systems havs [have] generally less fucking around to [to what or too??] but it blunt [it's blunt?? what???] than in areas that werent under communist rule. This goes even against the rules of Polish language, maybe yours has a crazy hell of a syntax like this? It must be fun to talk I normally don't care about stuff like that but I had to I just wanted to see how bad he makes hard working schoolchildren look by comparison. There's probably an actual answer somewhere, but I think it's after all the people that have experience with communism die, then it's no longer a "former" communist country. What descriptor said is better, though. "This goes even against the rules of Polish language, maybe yours has a crazy hell of a syntax like this?" You perfectly described English. Most native speakers can't speak it properly themselves. The ones that can have PhDs in it, and most of them can't, either!

well, in areas that were under communist rule for 50 or so years, school systems havs generally less fucking around to but it blunt than in areas that werent under communist rule. I wanted to refer to that... but I can't understand this sentence Sometimes it happens... maybe my English at school wasn't good enough Well, since you live with him, can you affirm Schwarzwald's assertion? Does Ross work harden than schoolchildren who go to school in formerly communist areas?
-
Don't overwork yourself, Ross! I'd be happy if it took 10 more years to finish Freeman's Mind, as long as it maintains your usual quality.

Id like to have one from Black Mesa in New Mexico from Eli I got this one.

No no' date=' see, Episode 3 IS the universe. Valve's been trying to build a time machine and cause the Big Bang all along.[/quote'] Oh. That seems perfectly reasonable. I won't ask how they came to that conclusion; I will simply enjoy the fruits of their labor.
-
New? Nah, not exactly. I've been watching Freeman's Mind since Episode 3 came out. That's funny; I'm pretty sure Freeman's Mind will be finished before Episode 3 comes out. Pretty sure? We're talking about VALVe here. The heat death of the universe will come before Half Life 3.
