  1. A huge part of Source's buggyness is because it's based off of GoldSrc. IIRC, GoldSrc also used parts of Quake World and Quake II, but borrowed really heavily from Quake I. Combine that with the fact that the code was (and still is) written in an outdated format, and things just get worse. Hell, the engine's been modified near constantly for more than the past 10 years. IIRC, it was a bit hellish trying to make the Portals and things like it work. Almost all of the authoring tools are the same ones that were used in GoldSrc. It's been ported over to OSX and Linux, too. The code must be a minefield. I think that we're certainly going to have bugs; they're unavoidable. But, since all the authoring tools are going to be written from scratch, all the code having a nice do-over, it's going to be a hell of a lot easier to fix bugs.
  2. That was...Interesting. God damn, you jump through a hoop-and-a-half for every video. What engine/software do you plan to move onto, if you don't mind me asking? Considering Source 2 will no longer be a tower of duct tape, I think it's safe to say there'll be many, many less bugs. Merry Christmas, everyone!
  3. If Ross *does* do Half Life 2 (and the expansions) that may or may not conflict with "Freeman's Mind 2: Episode 1: Episode 1."
  4. Great episode as always Ross! I liked the whole Forman Freeman thing.
  5. That would make my day. "This explains where my stash went."
  6. Like an armor-piercing round to the head! Rise and shine, Mr. Scott. Rise and... shine. Not that I wish to imply that you have been sleeping onthejob. No one is more deserving of a rest, but all the effort in the world would have gone to waste if... well, let's just say that a break from Freeman's Mind is well deserved. And when Ross finishes Half Life 2: Time, Mr. Scott? Is it really that time again? It seems as if you only just arrived. You've done a great deal in a small time... span. You've done so well, in fact, that I've received some interesting offers for your services.
  7. Freeman's Bad Everything Day? Super Freeman 64? Or, more appropriate, FreemanEye 64
  8. Huh, you're actually making the 3 day deadline that RandomGuy said you'd need. Are you getting any sleep *at all?* I think Cave Johnson just performed an experiment on you, because your blood is clearly gasoline. Great episode as always. It's nice to see Freeman slowly coming to terms with reality.
  9. You don't want to watch Final Destination 2, then.
  10. Ross seems to have something big up his sleeve. I'm thinking that, during the who M******a thing, he recorded the last few episodes *just in case*.
  11. That battle took me 10 minutes, including my 2 deaths and restarts the first time I got to that thing on hard. I don't want to admit how long and how many deaths that battle gave me on easy.
  12. Nope. Apparently, we're in a vast minority. I didn't even realize you *could* get to the teleporter via the vents. I tried to get to the floating platforms once, but could never reach them. As always, great episode Ross! I too liked Freeman's reaction to the Vortiguant.
  13. Somewhere like a cave?
  14. Either nihilanth or people Oranges. Clearly, the most dangerous game is Xen Tentacles.
  15. If he does end up doing Half Life 2, a Freeman Across the Universe segment would be cool to have at the end of every RGD. A minute or two of Freeman is always fun.
  16. The first episode that enhanced gunshot sounds were used popped out at me immediately. I tend to have the Freeman's Mind playlist playing in the background at all times, and when this episode plays through the loop it throws me off and I have to tab in to check what new gun freeman found. Getting more used to it now but another episode with it I feel the same way. As I said before, I appreciate the detail, but they're jarring and break the immersion. I don't know, maybe it's because I've played over 250 hours of Half Life 1 alone.
  17. I have this as well. In the daytime, not as much, or if there's other people around. At night or when I'm alone, however? Nope nope nope nope nope. The exclusion is during the day day, like 10:00-6:00. It's not even there, really. If there's curtains, I'm fine. A friend of mine has a really nice house. I've housewatched a few times, and those damn windows always get me. No curtains on any of them. Guest bedroom? Floor to ceiling windows on 3/4 sides of the room, right next to the outside. Also, there's a window in the ceiling, but it's rather small. Kitchen/back entryway? 2 windows in the ceiling, 2 medium windows up by the sink, and floor to ceiling windows with a sliding glass door in the entryway. Actually, the sink windows have curtains. Bathroom? Small window! Living room? Floor to ceiling windows on one side, two large windows by the door, which has a window. Dining room? Large window! Hallway? Large window! Other bathroom? Small window! 2nd floor bathroom? Medium window! All the bedrooms? 1-2 medium windows! Walk in closet? Small window! You literally cannot escape windows in her house. Someone could OD on the amount of windows in that house. I'm also scared of spiders, but not them biting me or the effects of the bite.
  18. From the first post/front page:
  19. He already realizes that the Scientists sent him to an alien planet? I mean, he did mention the scientists sending him back, the scientists falling and so-on and so-forth.
  20. I actually liked the new weapon sounds, for the most part. Every weapon sounded great with the new sounds, especially the RPG. The only weapon sounds I didn't like were the ones for the pistol. Felt a little out of place. Only sounds that annoyed me slightly were when Freeman would lift his hand from the MP5 and grab it repeatedly around 3:30 into the episode. The tapping noises were repetitive and kind of annoying. Other than that, General Cornwaffle is doing a really good job with the sound editing, it worked really well with this episode. One small effect he edited in that I really liked was at about 30 seconds into the episode, when Freeman gets hit by the xen tree. I'd imagine that'd be pretty accurate to how it'd sound and feel when getting hit in the head by something like that. I like the new sounds, but I don't think they should be used in Freeman's Mind.
  21. Might have something to do with the Steampipe update for HL:S. I think Ross had some trouble with it too because they weren't in the last episode despite being credited. That's good to know. Thanks! Is the Gonarch battle a scripted-sequence kind of thing?
  22. Great work as always! I look forward to more. Two questions, Ross: 1.) How did you get the additional holster animations to work? I downloaded Vedad's files, and followed the instructions, but they wouldn't work. 2.) Why couldn't you change the damage values for the Gonarch?
  23. Fuck off or pay the master, biatch! If I recall correctly, he's already made a bet with Ross.
  24. Thank you, Otto. It's totally fine. I do have one question for you: Is there any trick you use to describe sounds, like Gordon making noises in mid-air, or no?
  25. Wow, my subs are absolute trash next to yours. I guess that was to be expected.
