I wouldn't think of his reaction to the boss, but more of how he's gonna fight the beast. He Has Denied Himself access to all the powerful weapons in the game and probably missed the Crossbow, leaving him with only a SMG, Pistol, some grenades, and an RPG. This isn't gonna end very well...
