A (remade) classic. Though I guess I wasn't paying attention for the era of Naruto/Sasuke Linkin Park AMVs, so maybe I'm not cultured enough.

The Nature of Death and Violence
Deep Dive Devin replied to FoolOfWorms's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Neither is anything I've ever seen you pretend is "too radical" including the OP of this thread. So you're full of shit either way. Your logic here is such that an armed revolution could be passed off as incrementalist so long as any concession had been made to the oppressed party beforehand. But arguing that civil rights gains simply came peacefully is foolish no matter what path you take to get there. -

I want to frame this post and hang it on my wall. This is one of the most hilariously misinformed answers you could have given. -

I kind of doubt that. Either way, I would challenge you to name one real change to society that came with people just asking nicely for small concessions. -

Historically, incrementalism itself is a concession to stifle change, a crutch for tone policing. The question we should be asking is not "does it work" but "which people demanding it know that it doesn't work"? -
It's also because it's clearly using the wrong instrument. Also, I dunno how you chose the battle themes from Sonic Chronicles, those are easily the most tolerable and cogent in the game. We should be looking at how it butchers good music, like the S3K final boss.

I played this game when I was, what, eleven or twelve? I didn't really like it, but a couple of my friends did, and we've been following this on the basis of eventually playing it again for like three or four years now. It's honestly shocking that it's really done and playable after all this time. I'll certainly enjoy it more than the first time around now that I'll have someone to play with.

Just my cishet-ass opinion, so take with a grain of salt. The newkamas of Impel Down, Ivankov, Inazuma and Bentham are okay. The most you could say is that design and personality-wise some of them are a bit questionable, though I think Inazuma is actually kind of rad. The characters themselves are heroic, good-natured and generally more agreeable than most. At worst it's a Mother 3 situation, where it was good intentions on the part of a somewhat-ignorant creator. Kamabakka kingdom specifically is weird, because not only is every person an ugly square-jawed giant-headed unshaven crossdresser, it totally flies in the face of the other group, seemingly just for a joke. It's hard to even call it a depiction of trans people, both because it's kind of ambiguous how any of them identify, and because Ivankov's powers can literally trans people's gender whenever they ask them, which you'd think would be an easy-out. Also, I'm not entirely certain if they were actually looking to sexually assault Sanji? I don't remember how clear it's made. He definitely dressed himself up when learning the newkama-kenpo from Ivankov, though, and there was an episode of the anime with that. I didn't watch it though, because I exclusively watch long-form anime through filler-free fan edits like Dragon Ball Recut or Naruto Kai. I don't know if saying "a transphobic person" is a good way of labeling Oda, because it's not like he's doubled down on being publicly loudly horrible to people for several years. It's an unflattering caricature that I don't think many trans people would say represents them, and plenty would probably call actively harmful. I mean, I feel represented very well in the "moody long-haired pretty boy" category with Cavendish, so I can see how there might be a disconnect. This is one of several things One Piece could do stand to improve on, alongside making more than 2 faces for pretty women and knowing when to fucking end an arc, because good God Wano has gone on so long. Oh, and Kiku is cool. Dunno if I'd say she undoes some of the worse shit, but she's treated better than any okama, and even a lot of the cis women if we're being honest.

What Finally Allowed Me To Understand The GOP
Deep Dive Devin replied to dashofweak's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Not really my point. The beneficiaries and victims of conservative policy will benefit and be hurt respectively whether the extremism happens or not. Radical policy is designed to make individual radicals unnecessary. Even if there were zero extremists, it would still be a horrible ideology with disastrous effects. Conservatives who know what their ideology is and always has been about realize this, and thus understand that there's no reason to put in the effort. -

I didn't say the majority. You don't think the group is collectively in the control of or has its ideology collectively determined by the people in it, do you? I also didn't say they were all extremists. They don't all need to be, after all. -

I didn't say anything about what an individual will or will not do, only what the group as a body wants. Outside is where the mask comes off the most, you think it will reflect better on them? -

This seems like a lot of work just to reach "they want to hurt people that aren't them". If that's all you wanted to know, you could have just asked them. A large amount will just say it out loud. -
I think the problem is less that there's any inherent flaw to Freeman reacting to the NPCs the way he does and more that the volume of content is way larger, with a bunch of named recurring characters rather than four faceless scientist models getting splattered across Black Mesa in a million different ways.

Well I'm not advocating for that. It was one example of a use of language that someone would have to be willfully ignorant to not know the meaning of. I'm not calling for anyone who writes ((Vriska)) to be branded a neo-nazi. I just mean when it's so patently obvious, I think that "attack the argument not the person" is a policy that inherently platforms shitty people. That's actually pretty funny, it does look silly for me to invoke that specific dog whistle with that in my sig, but I do also think having increasing number of parentheses before and after the regular three that antisemites use is one way to circumvent looking like them. It's actually from a farcical reddit post where I attempt a rambling overly-verbose analysis of that Sonic fanfiction and speculate wildly about "Peter Chimera" only for Tom to completely dunk on me because it was him the whole time. Anyway, yes, I do have Ross locked up in my basement. Sometimes I sing to him.

Words don't have any inherent meanings, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to define hateful language at all.

Not really my point. I'm no shill for reddit, it's just got more activity. I guess I'm just trying to figure out what the priority is here. If it's good discussion, then we've got some issues. If it's an active userbase, then leveraging part of that discussion might be worth it. I didn't even really mean me, per say. I kinda gave up on treating any back-and-forth like that as a real debate. I meant more along the lines of kraken and mira, posting good-faith rebuttals only to be completely ignored. It's not that they need more help from the userbase, I just think that there can be an actual baseline to what's not acceptable discourse outside of what is generally pretty lax legislation on hate speech. Like, capitalism is shitty, but I'm not trying to ban everyone who isn't an anarchist or a socialist (technically speaking, I am neither myself). But imagine someone shows up ranting about how (((they))) are secretly controlling the world, and with a little prodding, it turns out that this whole time, (((they))) meant jews! Gasp! We are all completely blown away by this stunning revelation. Wow. Jews. Really? Like an antisemite would say? Huh. Like, it goes pretty much the same way every time, so what's the middleman of prodding them even for? I guess it could be sarcastic, but it doesn't take much to clarify that if you get in hot water.

Ultimately this is a forum for the work of one person, and I don't think it would see the kind of traffic more involved forums do even if Ross uploaded every single day. Dedicated forums only really manage to stay alive if there's a lot of stuff to talk about. The only regularly-active forums I post on are Sonic and Dragon Ball related, because those are both decades-old series full of obscure material and strange discoveries to be found related to their core subject material. Just last year we found a new prototype of Sonic 1. That's over thirty years old, and it had a ton of crap to explore that was totally different from the game everyone knows now. I've been tracking the creation of some incredibly in-depth Dragon Ball fan edits that remove sometimes literal days worth of filler from a given series. By contrast, the nature of this content is just that it's smaller. You'd have a better chance migrating most of the forum userbase to the subreddit, since that's more active. But then, you'd probably have to change the rules a little bit, since contrary to your opinion I think the mods are too lenient with the kind of political reactionaries I've seen, and I feel like opening a forum to see people arguing in vain with qultists threatening to commit terrorist attacks is more likely to drive most people away from the board rather than toward it, and I'm not sure the kind of person who is drawn to that is one I want to hang around with. But then, I also don't think the forum really needs to be "saved"? There's nothing at-large that really threatens the board itself, and inactivity isn't a problem in and of itself. Donations make Ross money, so higher traffic could be a potential factor, but it seems to me like he gets most of that from the videos since, y'know, that's the subject matter of the forum. It doesn't seem like maintaining the website itself is a huge issue, so I don't know what the actual issue is that there's not a lot of discussion on it. You'd have a better argument if Ross were in the kind of trouble that he needs to make an impression with his branding, which would make sense. We have the game dungeon and Freeman's Mind, but there's also a lot of projects in limbo and a lot of small experiments that make it hard to define a core identity for Accursed Farms. The only problem with this interpretation is I don't think Ross is all that worried about it? Like, sure, I doubt he wants to be confusing or anything, but it's always seemed like his biggest struggle as a creator is with getting things out quickly and consistently, not whether they fit a youtuber mold. So I guess I just made up a scenario where I proved myself wrong, just to validate a question nobody else but me was asking.

Is it bad that I'm still bad at games?
Deep Dive Devin replied to Twist.VMF's topic in Gaming in general
Who cares? Everyone is as good at games as they're going to be. If you're not competing, you don't really need to worry about skill. Play the way you want to. Also, no, being bad at games is not a sign of learning disability. -
