  1. Okay this goes back to the "multiple breakthroughs" line again. I considered that maybe it only detects motion on a certain level, but what level? At the cellular level, who knows fast your cells are moving? Hell I think sneezes are at 100mph. Nerve connections and the brain in general must move pretty damn fast as well. I guess the thing is I don't see how you would cancel one type of momentum, but not the other; additionally I don't see how there would be technology to DISTINGUISH the two or even DETECT the difference in the first place. I really tried to think this one out and I couldn't come up with any scenario where momentum is cancelled AND you come out alive on the other end short of having some positional tracking and computational system way, way beyond anything we could dream about. Let us not forget, Black Mesa still uses giant tape reels on their computers. The funny thing is that Freeman should be one of the few people who could conceivably come close to understanding the portals. To quote TV Tropes: "His doctoral thesis is ludicrously titled 'Observation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Entanglement on Supraquantum Structures by Induction Through Nonlinear Transuranic Crystal of Extremely Long Wavelength (ELW) Pulse from Mode-Locked Source Array'. In laymen's terms... looking at teleportation effects on crystals when you fire lasers at them. Which suspiciously sounds like the experiment you are conducting at the start." Of course if you break down that title word for word, it still would not explain how teleportation can stop only forward momentum and not other forms. Maybe the portals are just viscous and slow you down. I mean, they are made with Xen crystals. The portals could be made of crushed crystals suspended in some form of liquid. The liquid and the dust are then suspended by an electromagnet and the crystal particles activated by some sort of infrared laser that's invisible to the naked eye. Doing a quick google search, magnetorheological fluids would be a likely candidate. The wikipedia page even states that these kinds of fluids can used in "dampers and shock absorbers." However, you can walk through the exit portals like they aren't even there, so what the hell?
  2. I'm so happy it's working out for you Ross. You do good work and I say that you earned every penny.
  3. Man, every time I want to start making youtube content, I hear a horror story like this. I'm sorry this happened to you Ross.
  4. I second that notion, but how does that fit with Gordon's personality?
  5. At the end of the game, you expect to "get the girl". Instead you get to play again and the girl is screaming at you to not put the token back into the cursed machine. That's a really nice twist. Thanks for sharing this with us Ross. You reminded me that I had the same kind of "this thing can't exist" I had with the cartoon, "Reboot". Both this game and that show had VERY unusual premises and for many years I thought Reboot was something I dreamed about. You wouldn't believe how happy I was when I found out it was real. It was probably similar to your experience with CarnEvil, so I appreciate your feelings on the game. For extra reading on CarnEvil and Reboot, here's a few links if you're interested: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/CarnEvil?from=Main.CarnEvil http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/CarnEvil http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/NightmareFuel/CarnEvil http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WesternAnimation/ReBoot Note: YMMV means your mileage may vary. That simply means not everyone has the same feelings on the game for whatever reason. You can look at the extra links on top of the "main" pages for more info.
  6. Voted for it, I might just buy Dota so I can use it.
  7. Well, I can't wait to see what he does.
  8. I find the new sounds odd and jarring, but I like them. I say, keep them for now and then vote after two or three more episodes.
  9. So I'm quite curious, I you taking on a pseudonym for the purpose of being on That Guy With the Glasses? Most people on that channel have a name like Sage, Ask That Guy, The Spoony One, Jon Tron, etc.
  10. I'm not sure if TGWTG takes people who don't do at least some kind of review... Wait, never mind. They have TeamFourStar. Yeah, try they, but I STILL can't get them to send me a new email to activate my account. "Holy crap, Ross Scott is going to join Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses! I've died and gone to heaven!" I'm so happy...
  11. But that brings me back to one of my points. Where else are we going to go?
  12. Reviewing games huh? Well, here's the thing, I have watched multiple walkthroughs, reviews, and playthroughs of the same game. I get a more accurate picture of the game that way AND each of the people who do that kind of thing have different types of humor and style and I can laugh at each video for a different reason. It's great. The problem with actually getting views is that you have to funny and/or entertaining and you have to worry about fanboys from other youtube video makers who insist that nothing you make is as good as their hero. Though for you, I think you have a real chance there at making it. Also, hell, that Doom Guy's Mind was pretty good. A lot of people want you to make MORE of it. Though that voice must've been a bitch to work with.
  13. That's what happens when you have a freaking monopoly on new media. The sad thing is, I didn't know the extent of the problem even after Husky Starcraft made a complaint about it. It took until Ross' collaborating story to hammer it in. That this isn't a new thing, that it's not going away with a simple few changes, and that it's more widespread then I thought.
  14. It's funny, when Doom Guy's Mind came out, I got top post for saying that Machinima better step of their game or you would probably leave. Now I'm getting spammed by people who are pointing out you left. I had no idea you were going to do that. XD I'm like, "yeah, I know, isn't it great!" Any who, you aren't the only one who thinks youtube is going in the toilet. A famous Let's Player and Starcraft commentator that calls himself HuskyStarcraft agrees with you. It really has me discouraged. I'm really lazy, but if I ever get a nice set-up, I was going to do let's plays and now I hear guys like me don't even stand a chance to get any views. I mean, I shouldn't do it for the views or any money I could get from ads, but without them, I'm just using my time making videos that no one will launch and I'll be supporting the company that just doesn't give a shit about the smaller guys. Yeah, I like the "recommended for you" function, but this is ridiculous!
