Yeah I found it out once too. I accidentally left a disc in the drive and I was confused when I started up a game of Half-Life and the music on the disc started playing.

Defragging the hard drive - normally, files end up in lots of little pieces all over the drive. Defragging puts the pieces back together and can sometimes make things run a bit smoother. You get there by right-clicking the hard drive in Computer, clicking Properties, and then the Tools tab in there. It takes a bit of time so it's a good idea to run it overnight. To uninstall a Steam game, you simply delete the local files (the button's under Local Files) and tell Steam to re-download it. Copy any save-games to a different place if you want to make sure they don't disappear.
-
The file is likely missing for some reason. Verify the game cache (right click > game properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache). It'll redownload the file.

The CD audio thing reminds me of an interesting quirk with the GoldSrc engine. Pop an audio CD in your drive, any audio CD really. Load up the original Half-Life. Even in the Steam version, it'll still play the music from the CD in the drive. My friend says that Quake also does this and he found that a certain album (he says Alice in Chains - Dirt) meshes very well with the gameplay. I wonder how many other games from that era have that quirk.

You should really see a doctor about that.

Migraines started up again, which're always fun. I ended up taking some aspirin, which I'm really not supposed to do because they interact with my antidepressants. It helped, but now I'm a bit worried about bleeding. Not sure which is the lesser evil.

I'm going to take a guess here: He's going to review a game.

Digging old bookmarks from outdated browsers and putting them in my bookmark manager.

Plus the bloody fundraiser was actually for Freeman's Mind in HD. The "finishing before the end of the year" was just a bonus thrown on if he raised more than a certain amount.

The word "dingbats." It's just a really silly word.

Vent: Almost out of medication. I've got a prescription and it's covered by Pharmacare but we have to pay $5 and we're flat broke. That's frustrating.

Lots of older games tend to rely a lot on the clock rate for some reason - there's better methods than doing that, so I'd call it a bad practice. I have a little program somewhere on my hard drive that eats up a percentage of the CPU cycles and slows the game down enough to be usable. Not elegant but it works. As for the level load time - I'm still thinking about that. The game creating 1500 files per save is damn excessive though. I wouldn't call this program very well-made.

Mine is aquaphobia. I absolutely am terrified of water. Even taking showers and baths is stressful. (Note it's aquaphobia. Hydrophobia is rabies.) Vent: I passed out again in the middle of the day when I was trying to do things.

Isn't that appeared in the video for a moment? (Around 19:20 in the first video.) I actually paused the video momentarily to try to figure out what the heck that was.
-
Or even more fun is the random urges to fall asleep in the middle of the day when you're trying to do stuff.
-
I liked the video. I thought he was going to start screaming and yelling about the mazes though and that make me a little worry.

Or even better, being on meds that make you drowsy even when you've had enough sleep. "No, I'm not tired, I just yawn a lot." Vent: When my mental state is bad, I often let the files on my hard drive get into a giant mess or I put things in the wrong area (I once found a bunch of PDF files in the middle of my Music folder). When I'm feeling better, it's always a big job putting everything where it's supposed to be.

couldn't sleep either. downwards mood swing. everything is so foggy and i can barely think.

Thing is, normally my coordination is pretty lousy in the normal case, tripping over my own feet and losing my balance and sometimes knocking down store displays and the like. So add the "waking up" on top of that....
-
Vent: When I wake up, my coordination goes all to hell and for a few minutes I'm just stumbling around probably looking like I'm drunk before figuring out which limb is which. I'm used to it but it's still really damn annoying.
