What is Your Favourite Freeman's Mind Quote/Episode/Moment
ThePest179 replied to Trickiert's topic in Freeman's Mind
Scientist: I hope those people in the Lambda lab can get this under control. Freeman: Well if they're anything like poindexder back there, I think we're on our own. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "What the hell! I said no tag backs!" -
Alright, I mad this to outline why the HECU in Half-Life failed their mission in "cleaning" the facility of aliens and personnel: 1. The urban (for lack of a better term) and underground terrain of Black Mesa impaired the use of tank, air, and artillery support, greatly damaging the effectiveness that the soldiers could operate at. It doesn't take a military genius to figure out that modern (early 20th-21st century) combat requires the three things stated above to win against an enemy in warfare or else they will definitely loose (or suffer more casualties than necessary). This lesson was most prevalent at the Battle of Stalingrad, where the urban layout prevented the use of tanks en masse and was part of the reason the battle was lost for Germany. The lesson was also quite prevalent in the Pacific campaign, where Japan's lack of air support led to their defeat at many battles in the Pacific (after 1942). 2. The HECU was greatly outnumbered, as their forces of tens of thousands found themselves fighting tens of millions of hostile aliens. This is backed up by the fact that throughout Half-Life, Blue Shift, and Opposing Force, the sheer number of aliens increases rather than lower, and the number of HECU Marines decreases. Not to mention' at the areas where artillery, air, and/or tank support was possible, it was heavily implied that the aliens still attacked just as fiercely, and overran many areas. 3. The size of Black Mesa can only compare to the size of Aperture Science, as both are said to stretch out for miles in all directions. Black Mesa has some of the most confusing and backwards layout and architecture in history, as shown by FM and SM (Shepard's Mind) and many Marines had undoubtedly gotten lost in the catacombs (made worse by the lack of maps and large amount of safety hazards). 4. The HECU Marines had little experience in urban combat, as implied by entries in Shepard's diary/journal (entries can be found here: http://sectorw.wikia.com/wiki/Adrian_Shephard#Shephard.27s_diary_entries). 5. The order to shoot unarmed civilians was probably demoralizing, and caused desertion to occur. ( This was largely speculative)

Alright, I am at the end of my rope with this piece of shit overhype about everything. "Oh, 5 US troops died in Afghanistan, oh, wildfires have the potential to do major damage, even though we can easily put them out and are doing so right now, oh, 3 people died in a terrorist attack, blah blah blah" I CAN'T STAND IT!!!!!! Why does the US media see fit to report on the smallest of things, especially when it comes to the War on Terror?! And before you say "stfu, if your own family member died in the attack or something, it would be a huge tragedy" I would mourn their death, but I would not be like those protesters of Iraq and Afghanistan at all (I would not take to the streets, as I would know their death is a miniscule event in the greater picture). It feels insane and backasswards.

And that's why we don't trust the evil capitalists, kids.

I think the problem with that is that Syria has a good anti-air system, and that most drones are busy in other areas. The main reason I hate drones though, is that it takes away the fun of traditional warfare (human deaths). Aside from that though, NATO has made no move to attack Syria.
-
Then make your own list. I was NOT the person who made the list.
-
Aright, cities in which the Syrian Army has used sarin gas are: Damascus Aleppo Homs Reason Obama won't act: "We don't want another war." An oppressive, Neo-Nazi regime exists that has attacked ITS OWN PEOPLE with sarin gas (I'd hate to see what they do to foreigners if they treat their own people like this (they could give their sarin gas to Hezbollah and Iran for extra damage, 'cause that's what we need, right?)) and the reason we will not tear it down like we should and set their leaders on fire for worshipping Hitler is because we don't want a measly few thousand people to die in the process, even though we did that exactly just a few years ago. I'm not the only one who sees the craziness and bullshit, right?
-
I can't fucking stand Neo-Nazis or white supremists. they are they fucking lowest of the low, and should be shot. I couldn't disagree more with what they say about Jews and African people. Assholes.
-
I figured out what this is like! It's like the Munich hostage crisis! the terrorists are non negotiable with (accept their demands and more attacks will happen, don't accept their demands and the hostages die).
-
Before I go into detail, I do NOT agree with the terms that were set by the people who made this list or the term the applied to the countries designated said term. The Outposts of Tyranny are defined as countries repressing their people (human rights abuses, crimes against humanity) and or trying to obtain WMD. They are: North Korea Iran Iraq (formally) Syria Cuba (threat to its own people only) Libya (threat to its own people only)(formally) Burma (threat to its own people only) Belarus (threat to its own people only)(could cease to exist as a country within a few years) Zimbabwe (threat to its own people only)
-
Make it final, please. we've been stuck here for months, waiting for something that only takes a few weeks. with what they just did (potentially stalling and or getting rid of your amazing shows), that would send a big message to not trust them in the future, even if they finally let your show back on. While we are on the topic, can you say what the situation is, or a metaphor for it?
-
I just this fucking thing to end. I feel trapped in Limbo.
-
I'm sure you would also find it a bloody big tragedy, were you to be one of the few thousand... Not really. I would mourn my loss and get over it. You need to make sacrifices in war.
-
I dunno man, maybe it's because the US cares more about American's than some arabs in a war-torn country thousands of kilometres away. I still call bullshit overhype.
-
The Red Army went fast toward Japan, but not THAT fast. Anyway, I heard SK might pursue their own nuclear program, which might cause a nuclear arms race and nuclear war that would destroy the Korean Peninsula. The main reason we can't invade NK is that it could cause a large casualty rate (US is an exeption, but the bullshit media sees it as a horrible tragedy (boo-hoo, a few thousand people died)) and devastate NK like Iraq (+or- an insurgency) with horrible unemployment and (temporary) famine, anarchy, etc.
-
Chechnya should be Russia's problem, Iraq and Afghanistan the US's problems.

And you drew this conclusion how? The Soviets were following the terms set by the Yalta and Postdam conferences, so politically, they were just acting how they should have. Just one of the many topics that has come up in conversations with people that were in the DoD back then... That was their universal answer. (over a dozen people said almost the exact same thing) Well, to clear up any confusion, I meant that what if the Soviets took Hokkaido DURING World War 2. Anyway, I had no clue you meant large numbers of Seal teams taking down NK. I agree a large enough force would overwhelm NK, but they would take a fair amount of casualties in the process.
