Israel has always been hated by its Muslim neighbors, having fought six different wars with each other in the 20th century alone, due to Israel occupying Jerusalem. The Palestinians get the most violent over it though, because their homeland is occupied by Israel. This is the region that could erupt into violence the easiest. The two country solution has been suggested many times, but never taken seriously. With all the shit happening in the Middle East (civil war in Syria, ethnic violence in Iraq, growing Iranian influence) I'm sure that another conflict in Palestine seems like the least of the world's worries, but I would not dismiss it. Opinions are appreciated.

The US caused so many problems in Iraq, but the most prominent one was the ethnic violence that persists in Iraq which might turn the country into another Yugoslavia situation (Yugoslavia was fractured by an ethnic civil war that the government could not control). To have kept troops there (and keeping a firm presence there) would have (or should have) stopped the country from crumbling (as long as the loss of life can be disregarded). Alternatively, the US should have stopped any ethnic violence with extreme prejudice (or declare Iraq to be under a state of emergency and for each ethnic killing, take some of both groups and publicly execute them).

Well, one; it's only a couple days old, two; I haven't found anything particularly shitty enough to note on this forum recently (Although I'm sure several incredibly shitty things are going, I just haven't bothered to find them because I don't actively seek out bad news) three; I really don't think this qualifies for it's own thread in Gaming in General and four; while Joe Biden shouldn't be relevant to gamers in the slightest, this is a forum dominantly frequented by them and using that line of logic, it makes sense to submit articles around the topic. I heard in a magazine (Time magazine, I think) that US intervention will worsen he civil war cosiderably, taking examples from Iraq. Their main statement was that a minority (in Iraq Sunnis, in Syria Shiites) will figh like hell even against a force like the U.S. to make sure the majorities don't kill them. So they said U.S. intervention in Syria could drive Assad to use chemical weapons en masse and take much more desperate mesures. Well I guess it's lose lose every time, so I guess we should just isolate them from the world.

Just remember that #1, #2, and #3 are the biggest reasons that they failed. You make a strong argment, but the reason I think that they weren't trained for urban combat is probably because these were recruits and that the CO thought it would be a walkover. They obviosly weren't being trained for alien combat, largly due to: - Lack of information on them - They were probably trained for an offensive into Eastern Europe during a possible WW3, or an offensive in some other country

This is incredibly late, but Syria has unleashed chemical warfare on its own people in their civil war, and there are concerns that they will hand out their chemical weapons to Hezbollah and Iran. And there bis a bird flu going on in China. Otherwise the world is kind of quiet for once in a lifetime.
