My absolute favorite soundtrack is the entire Metal Slug series. I listen to it so often it almost feels as though I'm haunted by it, but that's okay because it's so fucking COOL. I love it when VG soundtracks choose to be foreground music more than background music, if you catch my meaning. The soundtrack for Metal Slug enhances the tone of the stage and drives the action forward. It brilliantly evokes the feeling of the game and is the perfect accompaniment to the game's already massive amount of character, detail and style. The soundtrack has a foundation of militaristic bravado, and expands in many different directions from there. Hard action, jazz, dramatic, heavy metal, you name it. The instrumentation and use of themes and reprisals is truly impressive. For a perfect example, listen to the Assault Theme, arguably the best track in the entire series. Tunes introduced in the heroic main theme play opposite of and on top of an eerie, menacing main line so that the sense of combat and conflict is represented in music. The line of songs which accompany the final mission in Metal Slug 3 (In the Void, Assault Theme, Into the Cosmos, Kiss in the Dark, the Unknown World, Bioinformatics, Escape, Final Attack) is nothing short of cinematic. Of special note is the soundtrack to Metal Slug 5, which is full on Heavy Metal. I'm not typically much of a heavy metal guy, but HOT DAMN. The highlights here are Zoom Down, Speeder, and Intrigue (note the section where the drums imitate the sound of the Heavy Machine Gun). What I'm trying to say is that the soundtrack gets me fuckin' PUMPED. Here's download links from that Galbadia Hotel site mentioned in the video: http://gh.ffshrine.org/metal-slug-music.php P.S. Make sure to get one of the downloads that include the Metal Slug 7 OST, as that features an amazing fully orchestrated cover of Assault Theme. Something else I've been listening to lately is the soundtrack to Duck Game, a recent online versus game. You don't hear a lot of music trying to imitate the Sega Genesis sound, and not only does this game do that really well, it also has some really cool tracks. The entire thing is available as .ogg files in the steam game files, but you can listen to the whole thing on youtube: Okay, one more. Your search is over the absolute best song on the NES is here: From an old, obscure game called Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos, and made by the talented composer, Tim Follin, this song will absolutely blow you away. There's also a totally kick ass cover someone made on OC Remix: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02628 Okay, I should probably stop now.

Ross, I don't care that there's not a new FM episode. It's good that your're doing what you want. Keep up the excellent work. =]

I want to go on to go on the record by saying that I would buy DOTA 2 just so I could get this voice pack.

Would you want to see Freeman's Mind continue into HL2?
tomservodoctor42 replied to Prominer44's topic in Freeman's Mind
I would almost like to see him start alternating episodes, doing one of HL, then one of HL2, but that would be something of a strain, wouldn't it? -
Through a warehouse on the far side (if you're referring to the part I think you are), there is a neat mounted gun which shoots missiles (in the original it was a howitzer).

I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the Black Mesa mod. It would not work out if Ross decided to switch over, but I think it would be cool if Ross did one 30-second or so video of Freeman's Mind when he puts on the Alien hivehand weapon at the end of the tripmine maze. The hand movements in the mod of Freeman sticking his hand into the creature for the first time would be great with Scott's commentary!
