Dang it, has it already been that long? Used to watch this videos quite a lot. Just goes to show, true clinical depression doesn't kid around. I have a friend who was right there at the same low point, but blind dumb luck made things turn out differently. He says he can still so clearly remember what it was like, just wanting to end it - but also how unbelivably insidious this illness is. He says it's like a cold that actively tells you that you're actually well for the first time in your life and you want to go for a swim in the ocean at freezing temperatures. It's been said before, but can never be said enough times: If you feel like you're at this point, please just take a moment to reconsider. In a very real sense it might not even be you who is directing your actions, it could simply be an illness that can be treated. -
Oh, my language is a real blast to learn as a newcomer. For example, we have the word "anden". Now, change the inflection to an extent comparable to a shrimp bumping into a whale and it becomes "anden". One means "the genie". The other is a type of duck. Yep. I hear ya. Personally, whenever I start learning a new language I try to go about it a little bit like I did with the first one. That is, just pull up a bunch of texts and videos and let it wash over you. Before I even try to learn any actual words, I simply listen to the cadence and rhythm and try to gaga-gogo along. Just like with the first language. Then go step by step, start learning a few of the basic words and grammar rules, but also go a lot by what simply catches your fancy in the above mentioned wash. One of the first words I ever learned was "lampa", because we had a really nice lamp in the living room. And so on.

Still, one wouldn't want to presume. I've got a guy's name on here and work in math and has confessed to going bald... and yet you do not know for suredy-sure.
-
Dang, I always thought it was one of those little critters running around on some of the planets in the Ur-Quan Masters.

Well, I'll be upping my paid hours in December and the way I see it, you've worked up a huge backlog of laughs that needs some concrete appreciation. So I'll be happy to send over a christmas greeting then! And y'know Ross, you really shouldn't underestimate the value of providing good entertainment. I mean, just as an example: I often come home tired and maxed out. But the combination of sleep and a few fun videos is usually more than enough to put that right, so in a very real sense you can claim that many of my students have benefited from your work.

Well, what the heck. If I'm gonna go bald, I might as well pretend to know stuff for the young 'uns too. Don't go hinging your happiness on the presence/absence of romantic love. For two reasons. The first you're already experiencing right now. Second, you are actively reducing your chances of finding said romance. Think of it like this: Do you generally invite people over in order to have them clean up your house? No, you clean up yourself and then you have people over. It's a lot nicer and more respectful to everyone involved. What I mean is, you have to start by finding what you like doing in life, the things that you can do with skill, confidence and joy. For me personally, it was dancing, and later on math. Oh sure, I sucked six ways to Sunday at dancing when I started, but I loved doing it. And that sort of thing shines through, if you just let it. When you have your own spot where you feel confident, you're generally all round more pleasant to be around. Any girl who might fancy you don't have to feel like you're morosely trying to use her as a ladder out of your own personal little pit. Instead you're a guy with a genuine passion doing your thing, who might just feel a little lonely. Well, that's my take on it, anyway.

Aw, but hey. A bunch of people on a forum is still kinda like a party, right? Although, I do find that I'm a lot more comfortable teaching person to person, as opposed to online. I always feel like I'm kinda flailing in a void when I don't have constant feedback via body language and such.
-
Hey! Another Extrovert! OK, you gotta listen to me. They have cupcakes. Yes, yes, I know. But you have to stay strong! We already lost one, which depleted about 50% of our numbers.

Please explain the differences between Voltage, Currant, Charge, and Resistance. I have a basic idea, but I'm sure there's a few key concepts I'm missing. Voltage is the hills and valleys along the circuit. Currant is the stuff you put in buns. Current is the flow along the hills and valleys. Charge is the stuff actually flowing. Resistance is beaver activity. And also futile, but we all knew that.

Well, what the heck. I wasn't planning on hanging around on this forum, but what can I say. Fun company is always a good excuse to stick around for just one more drink. And since you do have one of these threads here... I'm Amadeus (so I guess Wolfie or Mozzy would work?). I tutor math and physics and warn you all to be careful about asking any questions about it, because I will make a spirited attempt at talking your ear off through your screen. I've been a lurker since the very first episode of FM and I've been tagging along for the ride ever since. Good times, good times.

Rule 34 and BDSM-style tests, now we're getting to the bare bones of human personality. I was gonna brag that this didn't make me uncomfortable, but then I realized that this didn't make me uncomfortable and... and I'm a little bit sad now.
-
My poor imagination. It burns I don't know if it'll make you any happier, but chances are there are several rule-34-depictions of this exact scenario just waiting to be found out there on the 'net. Pun actually kinda intended, and I'm very sorry.

Are people really that steady within these predefined descriptions? I mean, I consistently get ENFP... and still have mathematics as the central component of my life and wouldn't know what to with myself if I didn't have a few days now and then when I don't have to talk to anyone. Although, maybe this second test explains that. Well... damn. Choleric. Go figure. For the record though, I don't like to be in charge of everything. It just sort of happens, and way too often, at that.

Here you go.

There's just no fighting it.

Not sure why this so funny to me. XD It's like we're suddenly part of some weird clan system. Introverts versus Extroverts. XP Will Introverts overcome the Extroverts? Find out in the next episode of Accursed Farms bollocks. Well, given that you're leeching of our already thin ranks using cupcakes, I really don't see how we could stand a chance here. But it is kind of fun how the internet opens up for switch-arounds like this. Our E-style center-of-the-party shtick doesn't really do us much good on here.
-
Wahey, there actually was another E floating around on here. ENFP here. So at least you're not alone, although those I-types did say they had cupcakes, so, y'know. I'd understand.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if you're sick of opinions by now, Ross, but just on the off-hand chance that you'll pass by here: I didn't find this very entertaining, for much the same reasons as others have gone into. However, I do feel like there's real potential here. The setup could be fun and your style of humor I think could fit quite well with a character isolated and alone. Maybe a little more scripting and editing and a weirder/dumber/crazier game would do the trick? Regardless, I hope the rocky reception of this won't deter you from experimenting more in the future. Game Dungeon was a pretty drastic departure from your previous stuff and for my part I've enjoyed every single episode of that.
-
I have to admit I'm drawn to threads like this, because I can't help but find it rather fascinating how accurate lot of people seem to feel the results are. I mean, I too was slapped with the -NFP part, and I'm bang alongside you getting miffed about people going all Dreams and Visions when there's actual stuff to do right here.
-
Of course, 100/16 = 6.25. Essentially, this whole game seems to be secretly rigged for the punchline "We're all special!"
-
So, I'm a very casual gamer - I have a small collection of a little less than twenty, I think; I'm not clued into the latest news and don't really know much of anything about the industry. But Ross's comments about EA got me on a trip around the 'net and after having read up a little I'm just wondering... could we maybe talk a bit about the gaming industry? I mean, the stuff I've come across, pertaining to the working conditions for many programmers and graphic artists and so on... I'm sorry, but it's simply spoiling my fun. I can't enjoy playing a game if the people who produced it were forced to work insane hours just to keep a mediocre salary and little to no benefits- only to get laid off the moment a project was finished. So basically, I have two questions: 1) To those more knowledgeable. Do you feel like helping me out with good sources of how bad it actually is - at the moment, most of what I've seen have been scattered among various blogs and while I'm not calling people liars, some of the claims are just too outlandish to believe without some damn solid evidence. 2) Is there anything we can actually do about it, if it's really that bad? I mean, games are supposed to be fun, and I always had this naive idea that it was a fun sector to work in.
-
Well, this kind of makes for a fun example of the Internet Switch-around of social situations... ENFP here. Yet, I do not think I have used more than five emoticons, total, in my entire life. So make of that what you will.

ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: FOLLOW-UP EPISODE #1
Amadeus replied to Ross Scott's topic in Ross's Game Dungeon
Hey Ross, thanks for the video! You said you wanted to know what people think about the idea of a video going into bad practices on the part of gaming companies - I know I would find it very interesting, if it was done well. It would have to be very carefully documented and avoid unfounded accusations and such like the plague. But done well and with care, I would pay for it, even I hadn't already decided to support your Patreon. I want to have fun when playing games and I don't want big companies fucking it up by making the production a hell for their workers. -
The Homo Sapien Genome Lifespan EDIT
Amadeus replied to FoolOfWorms's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Haha, no worries! I just thought it was kind of fun keeping your list of humanity ending disasters going. But yea, we are at the point where nature has to do quite a number on the whole planet to get rid of us. And we're not that far off from establishing permanent colonies on the Moon and Mars, so then asteroids and such can just suck it. On the one hand, I'm tempted to agree with K4 - humanity itself is the one disaster that will stick with us long after earth quakes and asteroids have lost their holding power. On the other... as horrible as it is when considering the absolute numbers, relatively speaking we have never been as peaceful as right now. Which does seem to be a general trend, globally and over the course of several decades or centuries. -
The Homo Sapien Genome Lifespan EDIT

There are a great number of things that could finish us off. A inopportune gamma burst in our cosmic neighborhood could essentially sterilize the planet. A large enough asteroid would cause shock waves through the entire crust, eradicating all macro organisms. The climate is a non-linear system and could be nudged over the edge to a Snowball Earth scenario, which has happened before. A super volcano eruption could turn the entire atmosphere toxic for thousands of years. Oh, how I could go on. Still, i checked the ray gun in SPAAAAACE option. Despite peak oil, despite assholes trying to swindle Women's Shelters out of money, despite Daesh (self styled as IS)... I can't help but feel optimistic for the long stretch. I've been following Hans Rosling and Gapminder for a while, and they have confirmed something I have had more as a vague feeling for many years - there is this weird, stubborn drive in humanity as a whole to very (very, very, very) slowly make things better. I don't think we have quite earned the Like A Roach badge yet, but from my perspective as a tutor and bright eyed physicist-soon-to-be I think we will get there.
