She was gone for a big chunk of it when they were looking for her, we didn't get to see her actually do any rodeoing past the opening, and she was completely out of character to an almost Discord-Applejack extent. What he said. I actually had trouble falling asleep that night because my mind kept wandering back to it and everytime I thought of it I smiled. That Derpy is so damn adorable. I'd make thismy Avatar if shrinking it wouldn't completely ruin it.

Because 1) Snips and Snails are fleshed out enough as characters that you know 2) Derpy is crosseyed, so has a physical aspect as well as a mental aspect 3) Derpy doesn't even show awareness of her failures like the others do 4) Snails speech isn't as severe 5) people have made Derpy mentally handicapped, and we can't know for sure if that's how they made her as well.

I admit, after I was done fangasming over Derpy and started to think about it, I was a little disappointed. I just thought that depicting Derpy as mentally handicapped and having her ruin an entire building is just sending a bad message, especially for a kids' show. And maybe Rainbow Dash was the wrong choice as her helper, since RD is probably the meanest of the mane 6. Then again, that did just exemplify Derpy's universal niceness. As for the whole "it ruins the mysticism" or whatever, the only thing that it for sure defined is her name (nothing mysterious about that), her voice (pretty much exactly like people portrayed her), and her klutziness (a very common thing). The only Derpy fanon it rules out are some of the depictions of Derpy as average intelligence. However, I do think that this should definitely be the most she ever does in an episode. I hope she goes back to being a background pony for the foreseeable future, maybe have something like this once a season. It's weird talking about Derpy as an actual character.

She had always existed, yes, and her cameos did make her a special background character, but she has now been verified as the Derpy we know and love. Also, its a matter of how much of her was canon. We now know for a fact what she sounds like, what her name is (Derpy, not Ditzy), we have a general but much better idea of her mental faculties (riding the line of klutzy ditz and mentally handicapped), and general stuff like her mannerisms and attitude. Also she was given a much bigger role in the plot (relatively speaking). To be honest, I'm still buzzed from the whole thing. When I think of the scene, it still seems to awesome to be true, and I keep having to remind myself that I did not watch it in some fan animation.

Packing at 2am, it seems Winter break is finally over for me.
