  1. At least it's not your fault, just who you are. Doesn't exactly help when people who don't know it perceive me as a jerk. And throwing "I have asperger syndrome" around just sounds like a lame excuse.
  2. Germ theory, theory of relativity, atomic theory, theory of gravity, etc etc etc. Will people call these "just theories"? No of course not! And The theory of Evolution is a THEORY of the same sort as the ones mentioned above; a scientific theory!
  3. Whoa! Wait, what?! Seconded
  4. Dunno if anyone answered this, but I think I can give a rough answer: It is simply because female is the de facto gender. Evolution, baby! You get the nipples as an embryo even before your gender has been "chosen". Before genders had really even evolved, organisms were female. We still have such organisms today. It simply sticks to us. Hell, men can actually produce milk. *flinch*
  5. I lack empathy; I have asperger Syndrome. Has its ups and downs...
  6. Well, not many enough had the option, so you actually have thousands of descent from the Yugoslavia region who wouldn't be born was it not for some certain war crimes... An embryo simply isn't a child. It is as much a child as the 200-600 million potential ones I have in my person at the moment.
  7. This is the simple point that unfortunately goes straight over the heads of many people.
  8. Caricatures... You're not questioning the cloud? :3
  9. G'day. Nice to meet you all. Just call me BB.
  10. Homosexuality is natural. Simple as that. Even other animal species do it. "but we're not animals", yes we are. There is absolutely nothing that separates us from the animal kingdom biologically. Higher intelligence simply means we are a species of animal with a high intelligence.
  11. Atheism= Absence of belief in the supernatural. That is all. Nothing more. It is to religion and philosophy what "not collecting stamps" is to hobbies. This is simply OBJECTIVELY wrong. All of it. 1. We DO have a fossil record that CLEARLY shows transition. It is right freaking there! It is just a regurgitated (and luckily dying) argument. 2. First of all, there is no citation to these "10 000", which doesn't really even MATTER, since usually, the people making these claims point to scientists who have their fields of study on COMPLETELY DIFFERENT fields of science, meaning it is nothing but an appeal to authority(logical fallacy). And 85% believe in god? Depends on where you are referring to, but that, again, doesn't matter. Why? Because Evolution doesn't, and isn't trying to, replace god. MOST people who believe in Evolution ARE in fact Theists! Belief in God=/= Creationism. 3. There is absolutely nothing about "chance", and the whole argument is based on poor understanding. Evolution DOESN'T talk about chance AT ALL! This is a complete fallacy and shows utter incompetence in the field. 4. The laws of thermodynamics DON'T contradict Evolution. This is also based on an utter lack of understanding. "The second law of thermodynamics is an expression of the tendency that over time, differences in temperature, pressure, and chemical potential equilibrate in an isolated physical system. From the state of thermodynamic equilibrium, the law deduced the principle of the increase of entropy and explains the phenomenon of irreversibility in nature. The second law declares the impossibility of machines that generate usable energy from the abundant internal energy of nature by processes called perpetual motion of the second kind." Creationists argue that this means Evolution cannot be true, and that there is in fact increased disorder. Wrong. The increasing order in Evolution is caused by the decreasing order in the sun. Creationists fail to realize that the earth is NOT a closed system, and thatthe sun is a part of our system. 5. Argument from ignorance, which is pretty much what ID bases itself on. Scientists, by the way, have no problem figuring out how eyes evolved. To put it childishly simple and easy to understand: 6. Again an argument from Ignorance. The Cambrian Explosion simply describes a point of time(lasting millions of years, not "a few years" like creationists like to believe) with a rapid diversion of species. It was simply around the time when the rather simple life forms of earth started their arms race seriously. By the way, all creatures during the Cambrian explosion were SEA BASED. WHY is Evolution being discussed here anyways? Evolution=/=Atheism.
  12. Depends on the country, yeah.
  13. The ignorant hysteria surrounding Nuclear power in a time when we need it the most. CO2 levels higher than ever before? "WE DON'T CARE, BECAUSE WE'RE SCARED!!"
  14. I can't agree simply because there isn't really a general religious consensus in the way that there's a general scientific consensus. There are just to many religions with conflicting viewpoints to teach, and secularism in public school teaching is important to avoid a clash between a kids personal life and school life. I think it's important to learn different religions to help kids understand how some cultures work and to help them see the similarities and differences between them. There is a massive difference between teaching ABOUT religion and TEACHING religion. Also, Evolution and Creationism simply aren't at equal levels. Period. Evolution is a well founded scientific theory(look up the definition) with hundreds of thousands of peer review articles that can confirm its validity. Just a simple high school understanding of Evolution is enough to see why these AREN'T equal, but Intelligent design proponents DON'T have this level of understanding! I'm glad I live in Norway, where this ignorance is dying. Although I go to a private school that happens to be religious, so I experience this first hand. Glad I'm outta here soon...
