  1. I disagree, this disgust for violence towards women is not sexist. It comes from a very primal instinct to protect females because they were and still are on average weaker and smaller than men. An average man wielding a knife generally poses a greater threat than an average woman wielding a knife, so it's not sexist to be less intimidated and ready to shoot a woman than a man in this situation. Women being incapable has nothing to do with not wanting to hurt them, I don't even know how you made that connection. Maybe it is a little gender biased to show more sympathy towards women in pain than men, but I think given that most men are bigger and stronger than most women it helps that at least some men have instincts not to harm women because evolution gave them a physical disadvantage to men that puts them in more danger of a man than vice versa. Of course guns shoot a hole through part of this argument, but I don't like widespread proliferation of guns for other reasons that I don't want to get into or argue here. I agree with Ross, unless the woman's done something really evil or poses a serious threat I feel worse about killing them and am also less likely to execute a woman in a game than I am a man, though I usually execute neither. I won't really contest your other points I don't know enough about piracy to make an argument for either side, but I thought I should elaborate Ross' position here or rather the general feelings men have for not liking violence against women.
  2. Those running gags get old really quickly and they make the episodes look a bit trite. I think it's good that Ross avoids that (if that's what he does). Actually I love running gags if they can be clever and various. Jokes of the same style don't get old for me the way the exact same joke does. When I watch say CP Friday (for the 100th time) Dave's nonsense isn't as funny now as when I first saw the episode, but so long as each of the jokes in this running gag are unique (I'm flying a carrot and If I hear one more bad song I'm gonna go nuts are very different funny lines) then it's fine with me.
  3. Really great episode again, best thing any of my content producers have done for Halloween so far, this video will probably go toe to toe with Hellsing Abridged episode 4, which I am incredibly hyped about. My only piece of criticism is that I didn't notice the random cutaway line in this one the "I'm flying a carrot" moment that I thought was becoming a very effective running gag on RGD, but it's not the end of the world if you don't get one in every episode so whatever. I really don't want to see this series fade away and I know I'm not the only one thinking this; though I also can't say I'm disappointed to hear Freeman's Mind is coming back. When your fans' biggest problem with your content is they don't know which series they're dying to see more of, I'd say things are going well. Hope you get a good weekend's rest and Happy Halloween!
  4. I actually had no problem with the length of these videos. They ARE longer than most of your other content, but they never dragged at all, and that's the only time I think a video or series should be shortened. I found both of these videos incredibly entertaining and I'll probably have to watch them both a couple more times to figure out why, but regardless, this series is off to a great start! I'd ask you to review the Stanley Parable since it's a game that could be talked about a lot and has some hilarious moments I'd love to see you talk about, but I also understand the game become far too popular to be considered an indie game, so sticking with less mainstream stuff is fine. Looking forward to the next videos of these and of course the next Freeman's Mind; 50 episodes of sheer awesome is almost here.
  5. That's really frustrating. Sounds like they wouldn't know constructive criticism if it came from Freeman himself. I don't actually play Dota 2 (I was going to download it and buy the pack if it got added but now...), so part of me thinks Mr. Scott should just abandon this and stop wasting time that could be spent working more on Gorilla Gong or Freeman's Mind. But cause it sounds like you've spent SO much time on this, it feel like an even bigger waste if nothing were to come of it. All that effort not amounting to squat would sure piss me off, plus there were some honest to God funny lines in there it's not even just about the effort it actually seems worth having in Dota, so part of me would suggest He keep trying to contact Valve or Steam and hope for an actual explanation for why the mod pack is "incompatible" and then change it based on their feedback. I'm conflicted; maybe you are too. Well regardless, I hope this gets resolved and if I do learn anything about Valve/Steam/Dota policy on mod packs I'll post it here.
  6. At this point I just want Valve so say Yes or No to this announcer pack and get us out of this limbo. At the rate the votes are increasing it'll be weeks til it gets to 10K, and even then, who knows what the time it'll take between Valve greenlighting it and Dota releasing it. This has taken up a significant amount of Mr. Scott's time, so I hope the pack does go through, especially since Valve has no real reason NOT to release it. Even if only a quarter of the voters buy this $10 pack that's still a lot of money going to Valve and they didn't even have to do any of the work, so there's no downside to releasing this pack. What are they afraid of?!?
  7. Sorry. Ross, I love your work, and miss Civil Protection tremendously, but to me the acting talent you show in CP and FM is so well done, that hearing most of the announcer pack lines in the preview were a disappointment because I know you can do better. There's more than enough evidence with about 50 eps of FM and 10 of CP plus those extras. I'm glad you can update them, I hope you do. You set a high standard for yourself with your past performance, I have no doubt your future performances will be amazing still. It's not the words, its that the lines just feel rushed lacking emotion. I thought most of the lines were kinda funny, and the "Oh my God they killed Snuggles!" and the "But does that even matter, they're magic right?" were delivered well (in ADDITION to being funny lines). Not his best work- sure, but given how much content Mr. Scott's produced in the past several years I don't expect him to set a new personal best with every new video. The trailer may not have been up to the quality that Civil Protection is, but that's by no means an insult, considering the time and effort he puts into that series.
  8. Crap, I just saw one of the announcer packs in workshop had 5 stars and almost 9000 votes! Just how long is it gonna take for Valve to implement this pack? I didn't think this would interfere too much with the rest of Mr. Scott's content, but now you have to produce a trailer. I just hope you find time in between all this to work on ep 49... and relax of course we all need our sleep. Good luck with this announcer pack getting through I hope you complete it soon!
  9. Short of getting hit by a meteor, yes. Really I was aiming for Monday, but I think things are tight enough now that Tuesday might be more realistic. It will be ASAP no matter what. Oh my GOD!!! Are you okay?!? Were you at home when it hit? More importantly, how's your computer? Did it survive? I've heard of lightning never striking twice, but this is insane!
  10. Yeah!!! Old sounds for the win!!! I thinks it's too bad a lot of people will still be upset about this outcome, but I'm sure everyone will still keep watching Freeman's Mind regardless of the gun sounds.
  11. Wow, Mr. Scott is right this IS a divided issue! In fact, it seems to be dead even 792/791. If this trend continues it will be difficult for Him to make a decision. So to answer your question on how divided this issue is Mr. Scott, VERY. I'll admit I have no idea how a real MP5 sounds, but I kinda liked the old sounds better, and more importantly the new sounds will make going back and forth between watching old episodes and new ones a little distracting, so to preserve continuity I hope He goes back to the original sounds. I didn't even complain about them after the episode, I figured if Mr. Scott didn't like the sounds he wouldn't have added them, so trying to change things seemed pointless, but it's cool to know He cares what we think.
  12. Awesome episode, I haven't actually played through the whole game of Half Life, so what untriggered event is Mr. Scott referring to?
  13. If you got machinima to agree to post your April Fools video, maybe you could trick them into releasing one more video that would explain that you're quitting and telling all you're viewers where to find your videos from now on and tell them that guy's site or wherever you choose to start posting them, just an idea cause some people probably watch Freeman's Mind but don't know about this site.
  14. That actually sounds like a great idea! You could have Freeman be playing the games with the timeline being either before the Half Life games or in between the first and second, but wither way this sounds like it would be hilarious. It kinda reminds me of the Two Saiyans Play series Team Four Star is doing (Lanipator and Takahata play games staying in character as Vegeta and Nappa the whole time and its hysterical). This has a ton of potential and it could definitely be used to tie Freeman's character into recent, and therefore able to advertise, games. Anyone else agree?
  15. If the TGWTG and Blistered Thumbs people haven't already seen Mr. Scott's videos, I think it really would be as simple as showing them the videos of Freeman's Mind and Civil Protection to convince them Mr. Scott is worth employing. Anyone who has played the Half Life Games and many people who haven't will no doubt find them HILARIOUS!
  16. I've had this discussion a lot with a friend of mine and I have to say it's probably not this because if you're trying to stall someone, you don't wait months BEFORE making an offer, you make the offer THEN stall. And yes I am trying to look into other options, though I'll admit I'm an idiot in being dependent on their income to survive and I'm trying to brainstorm ways to make up the difference elsewhere. Youtube has changed the landscape substantially, so that even with Machinima changing nothing, I'm getting less than 20% of what I was in 2011 and it's likely to be the same or worse elsewhere (I'm thinking about having a new post on this). Jesus Christ!!! Less than 20%, a sixth of what you made just a couple years ago, how the hell has youtube caused that? I always thought this was a problem just with machinima, but if now even youtube is not paying you a reasonable amount for what you're producing, this sounds much worse than I thought. I understand you can get into specifics on the machinima contract, but could you tell us what's up with youtube's harsh pay cut?
  17. I hate to say it, but props to machinima for releasing this video despite contract issues. That had really been eating away at me, I kept thinking it would all be resolved before April, but when I realized it wouldn't I got pretty pissed and was hoping you could at least post it on some other channel but wasn't even sure of that. Anyway, I appreciated the video and hope the contract issue is resolved.
  18. This was hilarious; a deadline Mr. Scott has always been able to meet, plus it relieved a lot of the tension of no FM episodes. Fingers crossed that machinima's finally got their's out of their ears!
  19. Yeah, now that I really think about it, the lag with machinima is really weird. No matter how much stuff you have going on you can't just suspend a partner's ability to release content and leaving him hanging for months, and this is a COMPANY, not just one person, they have multiple people who could have handled this but it's taken vastly longer than it should have.
  20. I'd say phew, I was starting to worry, but I knew they'd give in eventually rather than kill the contract or take down the episodes or something. Cause when the terrorists kill their hostages, there's nothing waiting for them but waves of swat forces if not a bomb, and we would have figuratively (or literally) bombed machinima if they'd seriously tried to kill your show.
  21. I think I'm developing a pathological hatred for machinima. Seriously, if they don't get this sorted out within the next two weeks this will have gone on for over THREE MONTHS since we first heard about it! Even if they finally get this contract issue solved, by say, June, I still don't think I'll be able to forgive them for causing this agonizing hiatus. Mr. Scott how long are you going to give the guys to get their sh*t together?
  22. Because there are consequences for releasing a video without having discussed this first. They're not UNWILLING to talk, they're just taking a very long time to establish communication with. If I were to just release a video without any communication first, I'd say it's probable that my personal Youtube account would be flagged and taken down by Machinima. here would probably be a lag time on it too. If I discuss it first, then I can have a clear course of action for releasing future videos. It's more complicated than this. Again, it's a matter of communication. The rights aren't a clearcut thing, but I can say they don't own them all outright. HOWEVER, if I just start releasing new videos, communication at Machinima is such, that I think my Youtube account could get banned by ANOTHER department at Machinima not even in communication with the one I'm talking until the whole thing got resolved weeks / months later, creating a big mess in the process. You mean they STILL haven't talked to you yet? It's been over a month, how could they have not found the time to establish communication let alone resolve the problem! If I sound furious, I'm mad at them not you, Mr. Scott, I just find it practically insulting that they can stop you from releasing videos and not even tell you why! How long are you willing to wait for these guys to get their act together and contact you?
  23. Are we taking down Machinima? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for making those SOBs pay for what they're doing to Mr. Scott, but how would we do it? Machinima is a pretty big organization, and sending them complaint letters is better than doing nothing, but I agree that it will probably accomplish little. If anyone hear knew Anonymous, maybe they could hire him/her to hack Machinima's site, and then when they've got it back under control, we'll send them a message with our demands and tell them their site will be attacked again if they don't do what we want. Guess that's kinda Cyber-terrorism, but that's what this wait has reduced me to!!!
  24. Holy Crap, $3,000, props dude! I'd say waitta make the rest of us look bad, but I'm just glad Mr. Scott is getting all that money. Awesome job.
  25. Show some respect. Ross will make an update as soon as he knows something. He always respects his fans. There is no update because he has nothing new/significant to say. Deal with it. As they said, just calm down. The guy was clearly joking, that's more or less what Freeman would say. You don't have to be so quick to snap at people. Anyway, Mr. Scott will finish the negotiations with machinima when he does, I'm fine with waiting and if I weren't, I'd be pissed at machinima not Mr. Scott.
