Higs-Boson Particles Discovered
Wheatley replied to Collective Foal's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
The Higgs Boson itself isn't supposed to be contained in any other subatomic particle. Basically, the prediction is of a field that's known as the Higgs field which would give particles their mass. The Higgs Boson would be an excitation of this field. There are several different models of this, and there are some models that do not include the Higgs, but the big news is that the LHC found a particle that is consistent with the predicted properties of the Higgs. -
Does God exist? (your opinion anyways.)

I used to identify as an agnostic, around five to six years ago (I was 12-13-ish at the time), but a year or two after that I decided that the term atheist was more accurate (atheism referring to a lack of belief, and agnosticism referring to a lack of knowledge, essentially making me an agnostic atheist.) As time passed, and I thought more about the subject (it's hard not to since it's such a prevalent discussion online), I formed more complicated views on religion. I think that as I learned more about science, it enhanced my curiosity about the natural world, and when I began to learn the details of the scientific method and it's principles, the credibility of what religion argued for weakened. Studying history of the antiquity gave me some sociological insight that has been rather valuable in examining our current culture. Religion throughout history seems to be a phenomena created by sociological psychology. I'm rather critical of most organized religions, I think that there are significant consequences to perhaps the one similarity all religions share; faith. As such I do not consider faith a virtue. -
Though I haven't had much of a chance to work on levels due to college preparations, I've made one level and am in the process of making a second one. It's quite enjoyable to use some of the ideas I came up with when playing Portal before, but integrating them all into a level can be interestingly challenging. The one I currently have released is this. I've only gotten two or three people to give their thoughts on my design, so anyone who wants to give it a go, I'd appreciate any thoughts. It's relatively simple, based on a couple of initial concepts I had the moment the editor was released. The level I'm working on right now will be somewhat more complex.

I really don't understand why they would limit it to just TF2 for any reason other than time constraints. I would guess that eventually they'll add in support for the other games, as I can't think of any reason to avoid including support for them... Honestly, their vague answer of this question and the release of the tool as a closed beta is really frustrating me.

In reality, we're unlikely to ever find aliens who would be remotely attractive to us, and the odds of them being reproductively compatible are absurdly low. We would be biologically closer to species on our own planet than any extraterrestrial form of life, so if we're not having sex with other species here, it would make very little sense to have sex with aliens.

Gordon doesn't strike me as being a true drug addict, and I'm not sure I'm even convinced he's a serious user. I am what some have described as a walking encyclopedia, and when you have that much minutiae floating around in your brain, if someone were to listen in, I'm not sure what they'd think. Freeman's likely had some experience with drugs, but he doesn't strike me as someone who's walking around high any portion of time.

As far as the ethics of pirating goes, it gets difficult, as I'm not sure I could fully reconcile piracy with any ethical theory, but in the end, does it really matter? I don't think that we can prevent copyright infringement unless we become technologically stagnant. I think our current model of dealing with content and copyright may need some rethinking, as I don't think as a society we're going to stop pirating or become capable of preventing it on any large scale. Edit: Ack, I didn't exactly mean to post in a relatively inactive thread... Oh well.

That's probably for the best, I know the name well enough as I used it for some months on Steam before switching it around.

What is Your Favourite Freeman's Mind Quote/Episode/Moment
Wheatley replied to Trickiert's topic in Freeman's Mind
So many to choose from... I'm going to go with one of my earliest favorites from Episode 2: "Am I hearing things?" ... *Opens the door* "TURN DOWN THE MUSIC YOU FRIGGIN' BASS HEADS, IT SOUNDS LIKE A STRIP CLUB IN HERE! GODDAMN, JUST GET SOME DANCING GIRLS AND CAGES WHY DON'T YA, GOOD LORD... Man, programmers... Who knows what they're doing in there..." -
I'm me. Sort of. My name changes often enough that I'm not always sure. Well, anyway, I think I'm going to start posting here finally, as I don't have enough interesting discussion or AF in my life, so greetings my new minio- err, friends.
