Ross, please don't neglect Civil Protection...
Michael Archer replied to Michael Archer's topic in Civil Protection
Hurp a Durp. It seems a lot of people think that I want Ross to work on Civil Protection. I'm not. I want him to work on whatever he wants to work on. If he wants to work on FM, then that's great. If he wants to work on CP, then that's also great. -
Did you know that the Roman emperor's would show "thumbs up" to order the death of the gladiator? If they wanted to spare him, they would put their thumb into their closed palm. Thumbs up means drawn sword, thumb in palm means sheathed sword.

Been playing a LOT of Team Fortress 2 lately; I'd forgotten how much fun this game was! I've been raping as a spy; either I'm the most amazing spy who's ever lived or the people I'm dominating are the new Free to Play people. Also, what do you guys think of the "Your eternal reward" knife? I'm using it; I don't know if I like it or not. Eedobaba, not bad! The textures seem kind of fuzzy, though i.e. they're not "crisp" and shiny like the weapons currently in the game. You should make a 1860 Colt Revolver or an 1861 Sprinfield Rifle; I've always thought Team Fortress 2 needs more Civil War.

No, it means that just because people believe that gravity exists doesn't inherently mean that it exists. Really? Explain how people who go around parading that production should be halted (e.g. cutting down trees) for the sake of some sort of "innate value" don't hate capitalism. Atheists don't believe in god and they think that any theory that says there's a god is wrong i.e. they take an objective, absolute stand. The agnostic entertains any arbitrary idea as possibly valid i.e. they entertain any subjective idea and don't believe in absolutes. Yes, but that's off topic. If there's no evidence to the contrary, the negative wins. The burden of proof is always on the affirmative e.g. Affirmative side says "There is man made global warming." Consensus has nothing, literally nothing to do with science. Reality doesn't care whether people agree with it or not, since it exists outside of consciousness. For science, all it takes is for one person to be right; it doesn't matter how many people disagree with him, he's right. Also, how is 96% of people a "consensus?" I do not have to prove the negative; the affirmative must be proved. Besides, I don't really discuss actual, physical evidence of global warming since I honestly know little about it; I just discuss the implications of what people would do should they decide to fix global warming. I say that the actions taken against individuals would be immoral, should governments decide to fix global warming.

Banned because Derpy is too big and takes up most of your post.

Juts because it's intangible doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I don't understand your reasoning. That's not possible; how do you abolish capitalism without there being a state? Who's to enforce the "no private ownership" thing? I do not want to live in a society, the basis of which is the Argument from Authority fallacy. Could you really? Could you really sleep at night in fear, knowing that the next thug who didn't like you would be free to kick down the door to your house and murder you? Could you really sleep knowing that your life is subject to the first brute who encounters you? I couldn't.

When I think of censorship (and how most people apply it) is when the government subjectively suppresses things they deem to be bad. In that context, censorship is evil. Is outlawing child pornography and slander/libel censorship? The difference between those two are that when objectively evaluated, they do hurt people. I wouldn't really consider those "censorship."

Goddammit, Bullseye; this thread did not need a Nazi reference. Quoting Ayn Rand? Doesn't she stand for everything you don't believe in?

Legalising Marijuana and Other Drugs
Michael Archer replied to Kyon's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Of course we should legalize drugs (all drugs). The only violence that comes from drugs is the direct result of it being illegal. The government has no role in regulating what goes in and out of a person's body. If someone takes drugs, they're hurting no one but themselves. Some will say that if drugs are legal people will be more violent, so drugs should be banned. Using the same logic; in the event of a car crash, it's the car's fault that there was a crash and not the irresponsible person driving it. -
Have you guys actually read the bill and not just what gamers on the internet have interpreted it? Because I haven't. If what they're saying is true, now's one of the great times to be living in Canada.

Love the show. Rainbow Dash replaced Gordon Freeman as both my desktop wallpaper and by iphone wallpaper. I like the show because the characters are extremely likeable and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I don't understand people that hate it. I mean, I respect their opinion and I can see why they hate it, but why do they have to go on crusades to make other people feel bad about liking it?

That you couldn't tell when you were looking at it. On a lot of forums, the linked text will be blue. On this forum, all text is white, so you can't tell what's linked at what's not.

I'm not primarily an atheist, but since existence is an absolute and the only thing that exists and that I accept is reality, I reject all claims of the supernatural. All arguments for a divine creator use incorrect metaphysics and imply that there is something beyond reality; to do this, you need to abolish reason. I respect that people have believe in false metaphysics, but I don't have to like it; nor do I have to hold them all as equally credible as legitimate theories.

There is no point, other than to alienate forum regulars who are just trying to help. What's the point of rep? Really, it's a popularity contest. It's not the best ideas and the best contributors get rep, it's just people who say popular things get rep. What's the point of that? As Bullseye has demonstrated, rep means nothing; he's going around trying to get negative rep.

Another improvement that would be nice: Change the theme of the forum. It's not that I hate black...well let me explain... At a first , can you tell which one of are and which are just text this sentence? Text color be changed when hyperlinking. The theme is fine, it's just that it would be nice to be able to embed into words. It looks a lot less clunky than posting the entire link.

The pathetic situation in Vancouver
Michael Archer replied to alphabetagamma's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
First of all, Boston should've won; they were obviously the superior team. 'Nuff said. The situation there is really sad. Are they seriously destroying private property because their hockey team lost? -
Iran is going nuclear; something needs to be done about that. As for if we're going to blow ourselves up: if USA didn't use them after the 9/11 attacks, they're never going to use them. Observe that the casualties of 9/11 are greater than that of Pearl Harbor. So long as the United States has enemies, they're going to need nukes. They shouldn't dismantle them, but they shouldn't rule out the possibility of using them.

Daniel, are saying that Walmart has no rights? If yes, how does that make any sense when all Walmart is, is a collection of people who do have rights?

There's a correlation between CO2 and the warming temperatures that's it. It means nothing. "Vast majority" means nothing either; that's an argumentum ad populum if I've ever heard one. When it comes to science, number of supporters of a theory means nothing. Anyone who thinks that nature should be saved at the expense of human well being hates production and capitalism. I'd really like to hear. I'd really like to believe that people don't want to destroy human progress, but I haven't seen a single environmentalist who is pro-capitalist since on their faces, their conflicting theories. Off topic, aren't those conflicting theories? People are getting mad at Canada since we're not following the Kyoto accord. To follow the accord, the government would have to put even more restrictions on us. Please stop putting the burden of proof on the negative side. Actually, a lot of people think that CO2 is the independent variable and that global temperatures are the dependent, but I personally think it's the other way around i.e. CO2 is the dependent and global temperatures are the independent.

Ross, please don't neglect Civil Protection...

I'm not complaining at all. All I'm saying is that Ross should work on what he wants to work on and not what we (the community) wants him to work on. -
Ross' Portrayal of Gordon Is Like...

Grif from Red vs. Blue. -
Please tell me someone knows about this. It was about this guy with 70s hair and it looked like the entire thing was done in MS Paint. I remember it being very scary. I'm trying to find where I can play it, but a google search turns up only three hits that don't really tell me anything. Am I making this up? Did this game never exist? I played it at a friend's house a LONG time ago. Is it possible it was just a game developed by my friend's friend or something?

Banned because thinks that being deep and philosophical is a bad thing. Also, because he's a dirty rebel who's still mad about Gettysburg.

Evolution vs. Creation being taught in schools
Michael Archer replied to BTGBullseye's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Go back to what's happening at schools? Ok: For the most part, evolution is being taught in biology class since it's an empirically defined and is truly a scientific theory. Creation is taught in religious studies class. If I'm not mistaken, evidence is gathered and then a model (theory) is built to explain how it works and to predict future trends. You could argue that scientists are lying to you and that gravity doesn't exist, but that doesn't explain why gravity is such a great way to predict how things will move. Same goes for creation; it doesn't explain why the evolution model works so well.
