  1. Valve would have said something. Ergo there is no demo. This is corroborated by the fact that FreddieW is expressedly a special effects artist and director. I know from personal experience that making a fake picture on a wall look real is quite an easy special effect.

  3. Isn't this just a bit unfair for the people who can't draw/don't have access to artistic materials? What if, say, a hillbilly, won over maybe... Franklin D. Roosevelt because he could draw better (assuming hillbillies could draw of course. )? You'll be able to have underlings who can do it for you.
  4. I don't know, I just got here, what's going on?
  5. Yeah, that's what I thought too. Also, he's been in Austria so it would make sense for him to know German. Knowing Low, High and/or Bavarian each might be considered seperate languages xD
  6. Roight then. So the thing I have in my mind right now will consist of the following: Nomination Poster/Picture Competition Review Competition Debate Voting Anyone have suggestions, questions or objections?

    Fluffy cute things.
  8. I'll take that as a "yes" for an election. I'd better get my paperwork in order if I'm going to be the General Secretariat for this thing...
  9. Every user and their dog couldn't just up and make a platform. A user could only be eligible if they were nominated by someone else, and that nominated user would have to fit some kind of qualifications that I'm still thinking about how it would work. Maybe a Nominee in order to have a party would have to have a Running Mate or Vice-Nominee or something.
  10. I thought the same thing as I was posting, but I didn't want to say upfront that Moderators and Administrators would be ineligible. "You are a coward and a liar!" berate the critics. "Grow a pair and post what you mean in the first place. And why shouldn't Mods and Admins get elected president too?" Because they already have titles and power. Why should they get more of what they already have?
  11. (This idea worked well in another Forum I was part of.) Who would be interested in participating in a forum-wide activity of campaigning for/of the election of a forum President? Users would nominate who they wanted to be an electoral candidate, those users would create a Presidential platform, campaign and such, and then on a stated day the forum populace would vote, deciding who would reign supreme! "Nonsense!" The critics bellow. "We have our Moderators and Administrators, who rule us with a fluffy pillow-shaped iron fist." Poppycock, I balderdash. Since Mods and Admins actually have some power, the President would only be an honorary title to whom it is bestowed the user whom the majority considers the smartest, most clever, witty and pretty coolest guy/girl/robot/what-have-you. "Blasphemy!" they continue. "A user whom most people consider the coolest and with an official unofficial title would probably have a large amount of sway in the popular consciousness of other forum users around him/her/it/at/etc." ...Hey, that's right. You've got a point there, critics. "Exhuberance!" they punctuate again. "But will it catch on?" Who knows? Would YOU be down for taking on such a forum-wide thing?
  12. A physics determination error called Advection can occur when two or more objects are lying on top of each other in Source Engine. Do not jump onto wood sandwiched between two metal doors in Half Life 2.

One of the distinctive features of the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov's music were very large chords and complex chordal movements- owing to his ease in being able to play them, because he possessed very large hands. J.S. Bach composed over 2000 peices in his life, many of them unnamed, and thus are simply organized by number in a system called the Bach Musical Catalouge or Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis (BWV). One of the biggest influences on modern movie musical scoring and leitmotif has been Gustav Holst's The Planets, a seven-movement orchestration with each movement using a distinctive melody to describe each unique planet by astrological definition, from Mercury to Uranus, exempting Earth. John Williams is 79 years old, and has served in the US Air Force. Yo-Yo Ma is currently the owner of the only remaining Stradavarius Cello named Petunia.
  14. Somehow I doubt I'd be able to make something like that. It would probably be something in either Scripting or your VMT.
  15. You were hit by a car. -80hp You drank a glass of water. +1hp WHAT
  16. Sim City 4 is slow and tedious. I preferred Sim City 3000 where I had less control but at least I didn't have to play at a snail's pace the whole time. But for a very long time Ace difficulty (above Expert or Hard) in Ace Combat Zero kicked my ass- until something clicked, and then the ass that was kicked was the game, not mine Find me a dogfight 1 vs. 30 and watch me come out unscathed.
  17. Red vs. Blue, tried to see if there was anything of Half Life machinima, found Combine Nation, wasn't long before I discovered both LitFuse Films, Civil Protection and Christopher C. Livingston's Concerned.
  18. Offered you a delicious and entirely unspoiled or poisoned raspberry smoothie.
  19. "My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust? If the whole show was bad and senseless from A to Z, so to speak, why did I, who was supposed to be part of the show, find myself in such violent reaction against it? A man feels wet when he falls into water, because man is not a water animal: a fish would not feel wet. Of course I could have given up my idea of justice by saying it was nothing but a private idea of my own. But if I did that, then my argument against God collapsed too – for the argument depended on saying that the world was really unjust, not simply that it did not happen to please my fancies. Thus in the very act of trying to prove that God did not exist – in other words, that the whole of reality was senseless – I found I was forced to assume that one part of reality – namely my idea of justice – was full of sense. Consequently atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be a word without meaning." A little explanation, that's a quote from C.S. Lewis in his book Mere Christianity, cititing his thoughts when he was an Atheist. The Religion & Politics forum on the Escapist is easily misguided on the topic of morality.
  20. None of that was animated with the Source Engine. It would all be done in an animation program like 3DS Max or Softimage, with imported assets from the game.

The first stage of the Saturn V rocket (which carried men to the Moon) had a pump about the size of a basketball which could pump over 7000 liters of fuel per second. "Vegatable" is not a botanical distinction, the definition (apart from legal reasons) is entirely culinary. Thermite is an aluminum-based industrial burning solution and type of low grade high-heat explosive, and is considered highly stable, even though once ignited it is self-oxidizing and therefore nigh-impossible to extinguish. This is because the initial energy input is extremely high- even an acetylene torch would not be able to make it catch fire. Standard NTSC-compliant countries have their TVs display content at a framerate of exactly 29.97 frames per second. This is due to a "Telecine Dropdown" which results in the loss of 30 frames over the course of every 22 minutes of running time. PAL-compliant countries do not have this added complexity. Most computer monitors have a refresh rate (maximum framerate output) of 60, 70, 75 or 120Hz.
  22. You can go much higher than 20,000 triangles, especially if you are using bodygroups to compile multiple reference .smds together. You probably would struggle to go over 60,000 but it is possible, there are a lot of models in Portal 2 that have even higher polycounts. My 1969 Dodge Charger model has a polycount of nearly 40,000 and I have no trouble compiling that. I also recently made new wheels for it using a highpoly version of the tire to make a normal map. If you want the model it's a part of my vehicle pack for Garry's mod, i'm also planning to make a replacement for the Jeep and Junker vehicle in the Half Life series. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/918163-Master-Chris-s-Vehicle-Pack That's a cool car, but I just have to say that there's something about it that doesn't look natural It's not only you, most race car companies have the same problem with the models. NFS I'm not even going into, as that series uses too much bloom and effects instead of realistic feel. The most natural models I've seen were in DTM Race Driver 3 so far. Do you know what I mean? It doesn't look very natural because it's very clean. If you ruddy it up a bit, either with rust or with a tiny hint of city grime, that should do it.
  23. What I don't like is digital distribution via platforms I don't trust. Contemporarily this takes the form of "Every DDS that isn't Steam" because not all DDS allow for installation on multiple computers or have transferable permissions. Steam I trust and know has the ability to simply Install Steam, Login, and all the games you've ever purchased with Steam are ready to be installed.
  24. Games from the Sly Cooper franchise. Clever and stylistic platforming well polished, inspired (seemingly) by Rachet & Clank and the Jak series about a Thief who is also a Fox. Most other people get turned off by the Saturday Morning Cartoon-style cel-shading and 9-12 year old demographic directed storyline, dialogue and cutscenes.
  25. As far as I know (which is not much), the people against the American Gun Registry are people who fear that if their weapons are registered, the Government will take their guns away from them (a false assertion) or that the Government will have the power to take their guns away from them.
