  1. One of the posts I made somewhere on this thread I believe I said something along the lines of "Either God created everything, or Everything organized itself out of nothing." But to be on the topic, I will reiterate what I have said in the past: Personally I don't think the origin of the universe needs be taught in school since there appears to be such controversy over it, and saying that it should be taught in school is just a proxy war for Creationism vs. the Big Bang Theory. A fight which should be fought by professors in universities, not teachers, parents and politicians in school board meetings. Or teenagers on a forum, for that matter. It is either the prejudices or personal intrigues of individuals frequenting this thread that repeatedly changes the subject to the historical context, credibility and moral/social strength of Christianity or details and confusions regarding the Science that governs Big Bang and/or Evolutionary theory.
  2. When any special effect is done right it's because its invisible; it doesn't draw attention to itself. In Apollo 13, none of the spaceships, explosions or even the entire launch are using 3D (except for particles like bits of ice), its all done in miniatures, and you wouldn't know it unless it was pointed out to you. In V for Vendetta, you wouldn't believe how much of cities, rooms and even characters in the scenes weren't actually there, just seamless CG placements.
  3. Sometimes I taunt and I accidentally my Equalizer. A haiku for the Soldier
  4. Yes, as far as I am aware, the Big Bang Theory asserts that at the origin of the Big Bang is the initial terminus of time in of itself and there is no possibility or practicality questioning before that point at time. Cosmology would be the field to look into if you still have questions on such a matter, if my memory serves me proper.

    Q & A Thread

Yesterday evening. Yup, lookin' good. If something of yours is moving at mach speed, what is it and why?
  6. Few people can appreciate how useful this would be in real life.
  7. As one who plays heavy all the time, Scouts strafehopping Heavies is annoying as hell, and therefor an effective tactic. Assuming you can get close enough before one is wound up.
  8. I tried and failed.
  9. Reminds me of Kent Mansley from the Iron Giant.
  10. CGI is the means to an ends. When a movie is nothing but explosions and 3D models, that's demonstrative of the lack of narrative creativity of the Director, Storywriter or other people who make the story. Why its more common than actual sets and miniatures is because it's cheaper and easier to maintain. Also, Jexius, that was hilarious. With what little I know about After Effects, I could have done a better "getting hit by a car" than that. http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/advanced_car_hit/
  11. D'awww, thanks Bullseye. Also, I remembered the name of the thing Nietzsche came up with. He established what would become the foundations of the modern Hermeneutics of Suspicion. God exists both inside and above [outside, by some interpretations of the word 'above'] the Universe in the same way a Painter exists both in and above his painting. If the Painter had decided not to directly paint a picture of himself in his painting, in a sense the Painter is not directly in the painting, but he would be, indirectly. The Painter's inflection of color and style would be different had it been painted by someone else. The stuff of what would be the Universe above our Universe from which God exists is quite obviously something beyond our comprehension in the same way God is, and questioning what stuff that would be would simply be a sidetrack of asking what God is made of. The metaphor of the Artist-Creation also explains why the Universe exists to give God glory. If a Playwright made a play which he intended to be his magnum opus, his greatest life's work so that the play would simply exist that would be great and magnificent enough for him to enjoy fully, what right would there be for a character in that play have to say that the Playwright was egotistical? One would dispute God's tastes then, for thinking this sullen and angry world is his Magnum Opus. Then I would quote C.S. Lewis in saying that "[....Christianity..] thinks that a great many things have gone wrong with the world that God made and that God insists, and insists very loudly, on our putting them right again."
  12. I still have yet to bother trying to get past that level.
  13. It would be in the same sort of feel of the movie Valkyrie or A Few Good Men. Made with the Source Engine, it would be about how 'The Resistance' after the [inevitable?] defeat of the Combine becomes a Government to establish a Sovereign nation and organizes an Army to continue stabilizing the Earth by way of eliminating rogue Combine cells or enclaves, and population control of Antlions. In addition to other concerns that such a Government would have, such as the re-creation of industrial, scientific, artistic and academic capacities, and food. Conflict would arise from miscommunication between languages and cultural barriers that have been disorted because of the displacement of people (for example, the fact that north american anglophones now inhabit eastern europe, which probably spells out a lot of cultural and social stirring).
  14. Randomly found a level 35 Killer's Kabuto yesterday. Anyone game for a trade?
  15. Hoping with all my heart that the whole drama of "Ponies" will blow over on this forum.
  16. When ejecting from the aircraft, keep your elbows tucked against your torso and ensure you have grasped the launch handles with your hands and that your thumbs have been hooked in. Failure to be in this position can cause flailing during the launch, or deployment of the drogue parachute. Flailing injuries are responsible for more than 60% of all Ejection seat injuries, due to the extreme forces involved in the immediate acceleration, exposure to dangerously high air speeds and sudden deceleration.
  17. The more distinctions there are, the more personalized this thread becomes and less functional the list which it was supposed to be based on.
  18. Being inquisitive brings knowledge. Seeking brings wisdom. There's even a school of thought for philosophy that basically consists of asking the question "Why" until you get to the most rudimentary thoughts possible behind all that we know of. Making every one of your posts a question is apparently a rather disliked method of conducting conversation on the forum however.
  19. /joke, /sarcasm and other apt statements are rrhetorical device referencing BB code, which uses tags to begin and end effects. for example, [b]words in "b" tags cause bold letters[/b] and likewise for image tags "img", "youtube" tags, "list" tags and other things. It's a way of indicating part of the last statement as if the description was in of itself a BB code tag, as a tongue-in-cheek joke. For example, /detail
  20. Question really needs asking then, as to why you continue frequenting it. Where's the sense in running on a treadmill if you don't like running or treadmills?
  21. Bronies seem provocative, passive-defensive and enjoying themselves. Anti-Bronies seem invokative, aggressive-offensive and frustrated. Most others simply wish whoever is shouting loudest would stop. This is our Mere MLP. By the description of 'mere', I would like to have it mean that it is a description that we all agree upon.
  22. Most people don't appreciate how much effort it takes to make a good mod.
  23. As far as KnowYourMeme is concerned, yes. Empirically, who really cares?
  24. A meme is the same as a gene, except its limited to culture instead of species. Frequent internet reference is twisting this to mean "whims of the interests of 4chan.org" as if it was a representative body of all people who browse the internet. Personally I beg to differ on that site being representative of the entire internet, seeing as more unique users browse the Canadian Broadcasting Corperation News site than all of 4Chan, and there are vastly more popular websites on the internet than either of those combined, that have a much less vocal/much more varied 'society' to them.
