As much as I love morrowind, I am quite confident that it is going to lose this poll. Not because I admit it's an inferior game, just that they're both great to the point that the only things that really matter are personal preference. And I predict that the vein of gamers that comes around here is more inclined towards Oblivion. To be honest, I don't expect morrowind to be very popular here (as in how many people would have played it). Much less daggerfall and arena will only get joke votes. Oblivion will win.

last game I played was Conway's game of life (if that counts as a game) other than that, I was playing Dwarf Fortress.

fantastic. We'll see if there's any more interest in it and if there's enough, I'll start it off and make up a tutorial on how to download the file and upload it into your game.

There's no need to have any experience! In fact, I find it's more fun to play after someone who killed half the population and half assed walling in a dozen forgotten beasts than someone who perfected the fort into self sufficiency.

http://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/Introduction/ read the "what kind of game is dwarf fortress?" part here, although it's a pretty dated explanation Now you can embark in dozens of different biomes and you can go up or down hundreds of levels, so it is no longer 2D. The concept is the same, though.

you should record a couple seconds of yourself yelling obscenities into the microphone with their name thrown in. I'd pay for that

I see. Well, it did introduce to me the existence of other 'mind' series, which makes sense now that I think about it, so I enjoyed it for that and to hear a little bit about them.

my dream car is a continent sized cityscape capable of sustaining nearly half a billion population and holding at least 5000 LZ 127 Graf Zeppelins in its docking bay, as they are the primary mode of transportation (only slightly outnumbering the zipline). It would be capable of going at least 43 lyph on the interstellar highways. Unfortunately, it's a less tangible vehicle than all of yours

this interview seemed uncomfortable. At least, it seemed more like a conversation than an interview, but I guess that's how it's going to turn out with more than 2 people. if those 7 other people showed up it would have been... interesting.

Morrowind: - Instructions and directions are often very vague and sometimes wrong - Uninviting color scheme (brownest game since brown went to brown town) - pretty awful and easily exploitable AI - several broken/useless features - limited fast travel (I, personally, enjoy this aspect, but it is a complaint for many) these admitted, it's still my favorite game of all time

I'm not entirely sure how obscure DF is, but I assume this is the best place to put this thread. http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ If anyone is familiar with the game/is interested in learning how to play, I'd be willing to set up a fortress that can be passed around, allowing anyone to continue where the last person left off. If you have heard of the game before, you would probably be aware of its reputation of being a difficult game to grasp (due to all the items being represented by ascii characters and general lack of instructions), but you get the hang of it eventually, and I'd be willing to answer any questions/point you in the direction of tutorials. But, hey, it's a free game. I'm inclined to wait until ToadyOne (the dev) releases the next update just for the added focus on undead, so until then I'll leave this here to see how much interest there might be to do this. Here's what the average succession fort is like: http://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/Introduction/ There is a summary of the game at the beginning; this is probably the easiest introduction to the game. Planning on trying the game yourself? Here's your bible: http://df.magmawiki.com/ More succession forts if you wish to read on (as well as community forts and stories): http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=41896.0 EDIT: perhaps this might be better fit in gaming general

by controlled economy capitalism I mean mixed economy. Capitalist ideals, but rather than free market there are limitations set in place to try and deter monopolizing.
-
are we talking laissez faire capitalism or controlled economy capitalism?

This is a tough topic, I suppose, because it's hard to define "god" and write out his achievements. Also, it is not exactly a problem with civilization, so I propose we no longer reply to this thread, for the sake of this new born board. maybe one day there will be a philosophy board, but this is not the place.

interesting... Are we capable of exceeding our creator?
-
The radical minority, while small in population, also happens to be the loudest. Not only do their make a name for themselves, but the media stokes the fires as well. Who wants to talk about your run of the mill church goer? That's not a good dinner conversation, but that crazy priest who tried to start a book burning at the mosque? Delicious gossip. Oh, those crazy Christians.
-
When will we become god, then? when we engineer the fate of our own species (we're partially doing that) or that of others (done)? The hottest and coldest places in the universe, if only for a brief moment, were on earth at one point. However, here's a second question. Is it possible to achieve more than god? would it only be possible to become his equal, and nothing more?
-
This is a gross generalization that targets a radical minority. It's not like Christians, as a whole, are fanatic bible thumpers who will persecute anyone who is different than them. Personally, I think the use of religion as an argument against same sex marriage is ridiculous; religion isn't as relevant today as it used to be. The argument, in my opinion, should be left to the difference between political ideals rather than religious.
-
Faith is not the sole determinant for your fate in the afterlife (well, it depends on which God you're talking about, really). If you read Dante's The Inferno, Dante depicts many popes and cardinals and prominent religious figures stuck in the bowels of hell being blown about by wind for eternity, or any number of other tortures. It's not "I love you, love ME" but "I know what's best for you, listen to me." If one is unfaithful, but upholds the ideals of religion, he still gets placed in limbo anyway (technically not in hell).
-
If a child is never chastised, he will grow up believing he is invincible. I think you are confusing teaching and loving; God can love through punishment. But does he not love those who do not pay him mind? Does the church going man receive any favor in life? (also, I have no religious affiliations, simply arguing for the sake of argument)
-
Or we could think realistically and realise that 3rd world countries will starve while all the food stays in the developed countries this. it's not like we all share our food as equals. If the world cannot sustain the entire human race, the third world countries will suffer while the rich countries will be fine. Like feudalism, but on a global scale.

do the achievements of man exceed the achievements of god? This shouldn't be a thread to discuss the plausibility of religion, we should assume that the judeo-christian god exists, and all his achievements happened. I want to know at what point do our achievements (the human race) make the worship of god obsolete?
