  1. Don't forget dishonored
  2. And regardless, they're both first person shooters. They are both in the same genre. And Half-Life is VERY Doom-like to me actually since the plot is nearly identical except HL has aliens instead of demons. Halo on the other hand to me feels more like a futuristic version of Call of Duty, or a logical evolution of Bungie's previous Marathon games. Don't really see how you can compare it to Doom other than Master Chief looking a lot like the Doom Guy. Regardless, they might be different in tone, but that doesn't make them separate genres. So that was why I reacted to the post, he put two FPS's on there even if he said one favourite per genre. I don't see two games that both revolve around basically shooting shit in a first person view to be different enough to be separate genres. That's just my opinion. Both Halo and Half-Life has horror elements anyway so they still would be the same genre if you went by that logic. Goodness! I'll be sure never to fuzz the lines between genres again
  3. I understand that they're both FPS games, but I would say that Half-Life has more suspense/horror elements than Halo (not to say that it's entirely suspenseful or scary, but the elements are there) while Halo is more of a Doom-like. Regardless of their genre, they're both still on my list of favorite games.
  4. Halo is closer to a traditional FPS while Half-Life is closer to a 3d action platformer that happens to have guns There really isn't much distinction between the two, but I would still put them in different categories.
  5. Taking one from each of my favorite genres: Half Life, Halo: Combat Evolved, Morrowind, Medieval 2: Total war, Sim Tower, Sonic CD
  6. Is this the aforementioned dark comedy thing you wanted to make, or is it a different project entirely. If it's the same, why is there a deadline, if you don't mind me asking. Is it self imposed? Other than that, glad to hear the move went well and there's still air in your chest.
  7. I believe we can go full circle with this one and use this as an example of why there is so much negativity towards the sonic fanbase. The word 'fanaticism' jumps to mind. Are those direct quotes? Also, google what sentence fragments are and how to avoid them. I'm not going to argue whether or not SonAmy is the best video game romance ever (it very well may be, for all I know), but try not to get so lost in the prose that you lose form and coherency. That being said, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the character even though many may not.
  8. I think Ross should take a 6 month hiatus between every episode, except for the odd numbered episodes after which he'll take 13 months (because who doesn't appreciate a baker's dozen?). I feel as though it's a pretty solid plan.
  9. I'm going to go ahead and second this notion. Best episode in a while (by default )
  10. As a man with fond memories of the sonic movies and cartoons (which I cannot truthfully say were good, but I'd prefer to look back at them through my nostalgia goggles), I'm very much attached to the stories that resonated around Sonic. However, the story should really stay out of the games as much as possible.
  11. Sonic R was an enjoyable enough game (not the worst, at any rate); the soundtrack was just awful.
  12. I hardly ever come across anyone who complains about the sonic games, really (well, they complain about most recent games, but that's justified), but more so sonic's fan base (objectively one of the worst video game fan bases out there). The sonic fad has died down in recent years, but it used to be horrific.
  13. Great photos, Anderson! Wish I could have gone!
  14. Welcome to the forums, Jamie, and I'm glad to hear you had such a great time. I'd be interested in the photos whenever you can get them up!
  15. if you just wanted to watch porn, you wouldn't have bought the game
  16. I think, considering the serious success of Wii Sports which sold 80 million copies, double the next best selling console game, Super Mario Bros at 40 m (granted, many of the sales come from it being bundled with the wii, but it's still an extremely impressive number), Nintendo is going to continue in that direction of more family oriented party games and gameplay. So, while I'm totally ok with them not going out of business, I probably won't be buying the WiiU.

    JSR/JSRF

The remake will be coming to PC (along with the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN), so an unofficial music patch is pretty likely.

Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio in the US) is getting an HD remake, however it seems that they are not going to be able to get the complete sound track in, which greatly saddens me. So herein lies youtube links to my favorites, and if anyone else has played the games and wants to share theirs, feel free. There's plenty others, but these have to be at the top of my list.
  19. Honestly, having better combat than Skyrim is not a difficult thing to claim. It's not as bad as Morrowind's combat was, but it's not that fantastic either.
  20. After nearly 11 months, a new update is now available for Dwarf Fortress. Undoubtedly, a quick succession of more new updates will come in the next few days to fix bugs and patch various things, but here is what has been added to the game: Happy Valentine's Day, my fellow dwarves! EDIT: also, "demons masquerading as gods will try a little harder" and "designations over z-levels" are my two favorite parts of the new update
  21. I've been thinking this is probably the most likely ending I couldn't place the quote, but I remember Ross saying that he has something special planned for the ending.
  22. JRPGs are basically their own genre of game My favorites are: western - Morrowind japanese - Chronotrigger However, I do love the Final Fantasy series as well (5 being my favorite, followed by 7, 10, 8 and then 1).
  23. this sounds awfully close to what real life is
  24. And time marched on for the dwarves, faster then, as the sun hung low, and well blistered hands reaped the rewards of shelter and food. But while the dwarven fires grew ever warmer, winter's raspy gale hunted like a hound for any nook or crack to slip through, and it shook upon the stiff stonework gates like a host of death's spectral captives, rattling the foundations of the strong dwarven masonry in a desperate attempt to escape the frigid outdoors. Few dwarves left the earthen warmth of the tunnels, and even those that did returned before the ungodly frozen breath could solidify the sweat on their brow. The quarry was worked on, mostly, since the moat had been finished, however at a pace far more suitable to the dwarves. The moat was dry for now, but it would soon be filled to the brim with water and help to protect them from all manner of evil. And against all odds, for the weather had been brutal that year, migrants picked their way across the frozen lands to join the fortress. And their tales of wraiths and demons that stalked the barren snow fields found ears among the workers as drinks were shared around the fire. The winter blew on above the toiling heads, and the first year of their humble fortress grew to a blustery close. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alright, I've decided to just finish this off and see if anyone wants to give it a go. Nothing exciting or noteworthy really happened in my fortress, so maybe I'll be able to craft a tale really worth reading later on, after others have taken their turn. 25. I very much enjoyed this one; it's definitely a more entertaining kind of humor to me.
