"Look at any particular country in monkeydom. The proportion of lower to higher intelligence levels will be pretty close world wide. There are proportionally as many 'stupid' people in Britan or Germany or France or India or anywhere as there are in the USA. However....America has a lot of people - Nearly 313 Million People... So obviously there ARE definitely more stupid people in the US than any other country in the west. It's mathematics." ---courtesy Jason Carter, the guy who played Marcus on "Babylon 5"

Mitt Romney made me laugh :D "Corporations are people"
Doom Shepherd replied to HLPrincess's topic in Free-For-All
1. It's the US Supreme Court that stated that corporations have the same rights as people when it comes to spending money on elections. Nobody claims that corporations ARE people, that's a gross exagerration. For SHAME. 2. Basically, this ruling did nothing worse than put corporations on the same level that unions had been on for many, many years. -

...although ACTUAL hell would be sitting in a room with all my family and friends... Watching the unedited, uncut movie of my life. Think about it. Every shitty thing you ever did to anyone. Every time you picked your nose. Every time you tossed off. With grandma watching. THAT is Hell.

In an unfathomably daft move, the university is drastically downsizing my branch campus. After nearly a month of silence or obfuscation, I received my "transfer orders." I am to be transferred to Main Campus (40 minutes away by car, instead of the previous 5. Hello, huge new gasoline expense.) I will no longer be doing my old job, but am to be a "Clerk typist 2" (basically an administrative secretary.) I have ZERO clerical training. Therefore it will be nearly impossible for me to do a good job, at least not right away. My old job description is "irrelevant," according to HR. In addition to the new gas expense, (Estimated $4000 per year), there will be tolls (amounting to around $650) and parking ($350) per year This new job comes with a $6000 PAY CUT.I've been told, in essence, "take what we're offering, or have no job at all." Union has been notified. Storm incoming. If there WERE any other jobs, I would say "F*** this s***." But there aren't.

The above, but all the other theater goers are also constantly talking back at the movie "oh, no he DI-INT!", kicking the seats, crinkling wrappers, and dropping drinks, and the entirety of row 7 bought their colicky babies to the movie, rather than spring for a babysitter.

Just the other night, I had a dream that due to her own ill health, my gf was trying to set me up with our nextdoor neighbor. OR the neighbor's teenage daughter. She wasn't being picky. Which was knd of creepy.

6 hour drive for me. Last time I drove that far was to a beach in Delaware. I reckon there were more girls in skimpy clothing with loose morals and low standards there than there will be at this. Plus, I'm about to get hit with a major upheaval in lifestyle, as my work is being relocated. So. Want to, probably can't. Unless the party were miraculously transported a few hours north. But that would put it in West Virginia. (And if you don't care for Virginia, think about what it would be like with 3x the hillbilly-to-normal ratio, and that's WV.)

I missed that post. ...I've shaved the beard into a vandyke for nothing. j/k.

Everybody stereotypes everybody. In Spanish “be a Swede” or “Hacerse uno el sueco” is “Playing dumb” or “pretend not to have taken notice of things you actually know perfectly and decide to ignore anyway.” We all are victims of stereotyping. For example, as I was preparing my last reply, I googled "typical swede," and found this, written by a Swedish blogger: He also goes on to discuss "unwritten laws" for etiquette in Sweden (and really, I think such things should be printed up and published as guides for travelers), including: The Swedes do not show their feelings in front of strangers if it can be avoided. You should not be different or think that you are better than anyone else in any way. Don’t look directly at another person in an elevator or on the subway. Do not say “Hi” to a stranger. Do not take a seat in a location next to a Swede on the bus, theatre or subway if there are seats available anywhere else. Learn how to stand in line properly! (Most of these have to do with the Swedes having a very large "personal space" as opposed to other nationalities.) Someone else says that Swedes REALLY like to plan ahead - if you're having a party, it's rude not to let your friends know at least 2 weeks in advance. Now, all this is NOT to say that Americans travelling abroad really give the best impression of our country. After all, most travelers abroad are "tourists," an epithet despised in every country, even our own. (Just listen to New Englanders talking about the Mid-Atlantic and Southern "Leafers" sometime.)* *Leafers are people who travel up north in autumn to watch the leaves change color.

Spoken like a reasonable person. Well done.

Nobody cares what you think. You have never, IN YOUR LIFE, said or done anything that has made the slightest impression on anyone. You'll die alone, unremarked, and smelling of cat pee. You. Don't. Matter.

20 years from now, there will be a pre-natal test for homosexuality, leading to ideological schisms in both the pro-choice and pro-life communities.

Let's apply Doublenature's logic to Swedes, and see how he likes it. Several hundred Swedish soldiers volunteered to fight on the German side during WW II. Some worked as guards at Treblinka, the concentration camp where 900,000 Jews were murdered. Therefore, according to Doublenature, I know all I need to know about Swedes from the impression these Swedish visitors to mainland Europe made. Now, do you see how galactically stupid your argument is? Also, I find you guilty of violating the Jante Law, and I fine you 5 krona.

Just because I can't resist poking a hornet's nest... Łambinowice. After the Soviet takeover of the area, on March 17, 1945 the Red Army took the camp over and continued to operate it, this time the institution housed German prisoners of war. A transit camp, run by the Ministry of Internal Security and commanded by Czesław Gęborski (later put on trial for crimes against humanity for his actions in the camp), was also created nearby, serving as an internment, labor and resettlement camp for German Silesians, as a "verification" point for Silesians, as well as a camp for former veterans of the Anders' Polish II Corps, whom the new communist authorities of Poland saw as dangerous. Out of 8000 internees, it is estimated that between 1000 and 1,500 German civilians died in the camp, mostly by typhus and maltreatment from camp officials. Of course, I'd blame the Communists, not the Poles, myself.

Forms of Government/Political Parties
Doom Shepherd replied to Twilight Sparkle's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Naah. Evil people know anarchy is an unworkable system of government, BECAUSE of evil people. Evil people do pretty well under all systems of government, but only in the ones where there are some checks on power do they have the slightest restraints on their power. What we have to do is find some way to draw a line between the idea that all people are created equal, and the idea that all people should REMAIN equal. No, the crack addict on the corner and the celebutard should NOT have the same amount of influence over public policy as the self-made industrialist and the guy with two doctorates.
