He got shot in the ear by the machine gun turret, and i think his suit is insulated, only the immediate area of shock hurts him before it gets absorbed.

That is just a wide generalization to quickly explain one of most every video game's logical fallacies. -

Doesn't his suit have a quantum storage device? How else can he carry all those guns, they don't have straps and his suit doesn't have holsters or attachment points, that's always been my reasoning for protagonists carrying an armory without it showing, quantum storage. -

I'm just happy that Ross replied, his explanation has helped me a bit, and, with the new episode, I've some to terms with it, I just hope it wont reach the "OMG I LAUNCHED THE MISSILE" level again. -

I don't want him to be a grand hero, but when you had several people tell you, or at least try to tell you, exactly why you had to go launch a rocket, and then you go and launch the rocket, but completely oblivious to what was said and what the point was, and freak out... I'm not expecting him to be an action hero, but to at least know a portion of what he is doing, from what little dialogue there is. Half-Life does shuttle you around like a sheep, throughout the plot, from one plot device to another; I'd think that an intelligent person like Gordon wouldn't just ramble forward with no goal other than escape without actually learning the means of escape or the depth of the situation. -

What, i never said i do not like it, on the contrary, i love it, it is one of the few machinimas i look forwards to. This is the exact reason i made this post, because i love the series, and i wanted to offer a bit of criticism for the safety of the series. Is it so bad that i wanted him to at least partially recognize the plot, seeing as he is going through the plot, i am not asking him to metagame, only to have Freeman recognize that that button he pressed, he didnt just randomly press it, he pressed it because he knew, from what others had said, that he needed to, he could make a joke or be angry about it, but he would at least recognize the point of what he is doing. Edit: I actually had a positive rep before i created this, it went from 2 to -6, but is slowly recovering. I still think it's because the plot hasn't be revealed to him in any way that makes it seem urgent or important. Give it time, it'll all come together. That's what I hope, I posted this out of fear that the trend would continue, as i feel it has gone on at this level for a bit too long, I want it to stay, but at a lower level. -
Actually, that is exactly how i found it as well. Neat little coincidence.

The only thing i am unhappy about Shephard's Mind is that is going to end soon, before OpFor 2 comes out, so the waiting game will rear its ugly head upon the fans of the series.

I like how people suddenly jumped to the extreme, like wanted it to stop being funny, it never occurred to them that maybe, just maybe, there is a way to be funny without acting stupid? No, no way can anything funny be even resembling or containing a hint or reality, no way, that's not what video games are for, hence all games being as completely unrealistic as possible, at every available time. You guys jump to extremes, so have i, everyone happy? -

You don't like people for long do you... A personality will stay the same in the same person if that person stays in the same situation. That's the problem, the situation has changed! -
I wonder what will happen when Gordon fights the Nihilanth.
MakoVlazkov replied to k12314's topic in Freeman's Mind
I dare you to go through the same situations (alien invasion, the military trying to kill you, scientists telling you to do things while being shot at by said military) and then change your personality half way through. He shouldn't have "changed halfway through" so much as actually reacted to the situation. I think it even stranger if someone were to go through this, not listening to anyone and still acting as though they even care about getting high or whats on TV. -

MakoVlazkov replied to k12314's topic in Freeman's Mind
I'm surprised by how serious you are taking a parody. It's meant to be different from how a heroic character would handle the situation. I'm not trying to take it seriously, but nobody short of an idiot would act the way Freeman is now, the premise of the series is "regular guy in the wrong place" is it not? And it is a comedy, and it is funny, but the shtick where he goes through the plot without recognizing ANY plot elements is completely... stupid. -
In all seriousness, this is a dire situation.
MakoVlazkov replied to MakoVlazkov's topic in Freeman's Mind
Goodness people, I'm not asking for him to be an action hero, or stop being funny, that's just the thing, the shtick just isn't funny anymore, because it relies on him being blatantly incoherent with the entire situation. Like someone said about Shephards Mind, that is a really good example of being funny while not being completely stupid. -

I don't get why people are angry that Machinima releases its videos fairly and without bias, I for one am glad they don't bend to the will of people who claim the videos they like to be more important than others. -

I agree, but it getting tiresome, i can deal with him not liking the role he is given in all this, but at least he could recognize it. "JESUS CHRIST I LAUNCHED THE MISSILE!" is the straw that broke the camels back for me, as if he never understood what the hell he is even doing, like his is just truly bumbling around. -
This is some harsh criticism, fair warning. This is from the thread discussing how Ross's "Gordon" will react to the Nihilanth. This roughly explains my opinion of the issue. I grow very tired of the attitude Ross seems to think appropriate for Gordon Freeman. In the beginning, the attitude was funny and fitting, but by the time the HECU Marines got involved, it was wearing thin. One thing I really liked about Half-Life over Half-Life 2 was the sense of seriousness and urgency, there was a dire need to do what must be done to save the world, and Gordon Freeman was the man to do it. As the series progressed, i expected Freeman to come to terms with what is happening and realize his central role in what is happening, and bloody man up. But still he persists with screaming in terror and crying about wanting to flee, steal, get high, and other nonsense. Dear god, Ross, this is Gordon Freeman, he isn't Duke Nukem, you once explained your view of Freeman, and it seemed agreeable, but that is not what you are representing, he is still a jumpy and delusional jokester as the situation rapidly becomes an urgent battle for the continuance of the human race, for the survival of Earth, meanwhile Gordon, the central protagonist, contemplates getting high on animal tranquilizers... TL;DR I am upset with how nonchalant and nonsensical Freeman is in a very serious situation, the lives of many weighing on his shoulders, he doesn't seem to notice or care, blatantly ignoring or disregarding dialogue and his role.

MakoVlazkov replied to k12314's topic in Freeman's Mind
He'll probably scream and act like a coward, shooting randomly, saying sorry and cracking bad jokes, somehow bumbling around and destroying the crystals, then he'll trip, fall onto the jump spot, fly up and accidentally kill it. That's about all he has been doing, playing it off as though Freeman is some sort of bumbling moron, never doing things seriously, while "accidentally" doing what he is supposed to, and not even understanding what he is doing. Fine example of him launching the rockets, he spoke over EVERYTHING the scientists said to him about the rocket and holding back the cascade, a dire need to save the world, and what did he do? Bumble around like a freaking moron, launching the rocket, "ooh big button, wazzat do?" and then acting surprised... -

MakoVlazkov replied to MakoVlazkov's topic in Freeman's Mind
That is exactly what I am asking, that is what made me think of making this thread. -
I approve of your opinion What I really like about Shephard's Mind is that he actually takes things seriously from time to time, as opposed to Barney cracking jokes and Freeman straight-up ignoring everything and seemingly bumbling his way around, somehow doing what he is supposed to even though he completely ignored the person telling him to do it, then acting surprised, it was funny at first, I was hoping he would get more serious has he realized how big the situation was, but no, he is still acts like some sort of egotistical snarky coward, and i am disappoint. I love Freeman's Mind, this is my only gripe with it, he doesn't take his role seriously, even though he is shown time and time again that he is the only one capable of doing what he needs to do, he completely disregards it. This is why i like Shephard's Mind and Freeman's Mind equally.

You guys will most likely hate me for this, but I like Shephard's Mind and Freeman's Mind, more or less, equally. Barney's Mind is a close "second".
