What game universe do you want to live in?
Pinkie Pie replied to Reverend_UshankaCat_'s topic in Gaming in general
Post-ME3 Mass Effect universe. Reapers are gone and ships can go into hyperspace without using Mass Relays. It's a win-win. inb4 'of course you'd pick that' -
Too bad Mako is dead.

Watching Dragon Age playthroughs to see all the different origin stories.

Just beat Dragon Age: Inquisition. While I can't say my faith in Bioware has been completely restored, this game has definitely made me feel like they're able to make quality products again. I guess being named 'Worst Company in America' for two years running left a big enough impression on EA to loosen up the leash a bit and let Bioware make games without rushing the shit out of them.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens [SPOILERS]
Pinkie Pie replied to Alyxx Thorne's topic in Free-For-All
I would like to know more about the relationship between the New Republic and the Resistance is, though, and how the New Order arose under the nose of the New Republic. I don't need granular details, but I would like to know more about how they are connected. I agree that the film was scarce on any details about the NR (and hence making it hard to care when it gets blown up.) I think the next film would benefit from more of a better idea on the political climate...within reason. -
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens [SPOILERS]

You seem to have missed the part where I said George staffed his entire creative team with yes men. I only picked out a few different reasons to stamp the idea that he had no restrictions on what he wanted to do. It's admirable from a business perspective how far he got that he was able to create his vision exactly how he wanted it without anybody telling him he couldn't but it also damned the story because, in his own words... Personally, I don't actually have that much of a problem with Jar Jar or a lot of the other stupid crap in those movies. I actually still enjoy them for what they are, believe it or not. I'm not even denying that the Prequels possess more creativity than TFA since most of its elements were borrowed from the OT for obvious reasons. However, to claim that they're somehow misjudged and underrated due to people not seeing the 'big picture' is kind of silly, in my opinion. I see the plot of the Prequels quite clearly, the problem is the execution was poor, for more reasons than 'Jar Jar stepped in the poopy'. Even the titling of TFA matches it's intention compared to the Prequels. On the posters for the PT, 'EPISODE I/I//III' were the biggest things in the titles because George was banking more on his 9-part saga that he'd wanted to make since Empire than actually making a movie that felt like Star Wars. TFA on the other hand, while it has Episode VII in the title crawl, the actual title of the film is just 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. Because that's all it needs to be. The plot doesn't need to be 'big', we don't need intimate knowledge of the politics behind everything. (politics that make no sense at all, anyway) We just need a good story and TFA's reliance on retreading the original movie's plot is showing that Disney wants to make Star Wars Star Wars again, not some high-minded artistic nonsense that nobody asked for. -
Dragon Age: Inquisition. Just got to the part where we find Skyhold and I'm made the Inquisitor. So far, this game has redeemed most of my faith in Bioware after the tragedy that was 2012 and Mass Effect 3. Hopefully Andromeda is just as good, if not better.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens [SPOILERS]
Pinkie Pie replied to Alyxx Thorne's topic in Free-For-All
The franchise slipped to the Dark Side when George Lucas cast out any and all creative people in favor of 'yes men' whose only jobs were to agree with everything he said. 'Yes, George, Jar Jar Binks was a great idea! Let's make Boba Fett a bad child actor, that's what the audience wants! Yes, George, please continue throwing terrible CGI at the screen! That's how good movies are made!' I'll take a plot recycled from ANH any day over the Prequels. Especially if it means I get to watch Daisy Ridley's face some more. -
I guess I should have put my review for Episode VII in this thread so I'll do that. It still gets an 8.7 from me.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens [SPOILERS]
Pinkie Pie replied to Alyxx Thorne's topic in Free-For-All
My immediate reaction upon seeing the movie was that it was great. My only problem was Carrie Fisher and her false teeth ruining my vision of an older Princess Leia. But all in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and can't wait for sequels. In hindsight, the film has more than a few issues. Our main heroine, Rey, is a total Mary Sue; the New Republic gets wiped out and we have no reason to care; the plot is pretty much a repeat of much of the original trilogy (which I don't have a major problem with but you could argue it's an issue) and it can get a little TOO comedic at times. I laughed at almost every joke but it did seem to get too funny. However, I am firmly of the opinion that the good of the film far outweighs the mediocre. I think it's one of the best Star Wars films to date, right around Empire Strikes Back though probably not surpassing it. Kylo Ren and his Darth Vader fanboy vibe is my favorite character. He's just intriguing to me as to why he would do what he does. Han Solo and Chewie were great and it was great to see them again. All in all, I had a lot of fun with this movie. If I could have fixed a few things, I think I'd tone down Rey's OP-ness. In this, it just seems too sudden for her to be able to do a lot of the stuff she does when she hasn't had any training. They might explain this in the future (a certain familial relation, perhaps) but it's a bit jarring to me and as-is she just seems to be perfect without any real indication as to why. I'd have made Poe more prominent as Oscar Isaac is incredibly likable in this movie and I would have maybe spent a minute to actually, funnily enough, explain the politics of SW. What is the connection between the New Republic and the Resistance? How did the First Order come about and when? We don't even see any of the Knights of Ren outside of a certain quick scene, how exactly did Kylo get wrapped up in all of that? I'm sure much of this will be explained in future movies but as-is, it leaves some gaping holes in the story right now. As it stands for the SW saga, I'd rate it as The Empire Strikes Back - 8.8/10 The Force Awakens - 8.7/10 A New Hope - 8.5/10 Return of the Jedi - 8.3/10 Revenge of the Sith - 6.5/10 The Phantom Menace - 6.0/10 Attack of the Clones - 5.7/10 I've seen quite a few people voice their opinions for why this film was as bad as the Prequels but to be honest, I haven't seen a good enough argument to support this. It just comes across as people having contrarian opinions because they want to look 'edgy'. Because not liking one of the most anticipated movies of the year is 'edgy'. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it definitely beats out the Prequels by a large margin. -
The Maze Runner 7/10 It was oooookay. Not terribly good, not horrifically bad. Just okay. The ending was probably the best part.

Trying to earn a living in America with minimal prior experience. Saving up cash for a car eventually, maybe. Having no idea what I'm doing in life. So, nothing new, really.

I guess this is the AF reunion thread now. how's it going, usermang

Holy shit I did not see that coming. I had to break out of my AF forums semi-retirement to give congratulations on going forward with your transition and glad everything's going well besides! Surprissssssse. And hey long time no see. How's life? Life's fine. No real complaints, anyway. Been trying out various places of employment with varying levels of success. Occasionally pop in here to see what's going on with the forum. It's nice to see another familiar face again, though.
