  1. Life and existence cannot have a meaning because the word "meaning" implies intent. There can be "meaning" to me eating an apple, because there was a consciousness with intent towards an action or thought. In an atheistic world view (my world view), life can have no meaning, because there is no creator to have intent. Random occurrences cannot, by definition, have meaning, and the existence of life is very arguably a random occurrence. However, observation of life can spawn beliefs in the observer. A person can have a standing belief about the true nature of life, or their own intentions in life. They might call that the "meaning of life", though it would be a misnomer. By definition, only a creationist can truly believe that life has meaning, because the word "meaning" requires a creator with intent.
  2. Death is what a camera sees when you turn it off. In less metaphorical terms, death is non-existence of the consciousness. Processing in the brain shuts down, the same as a computer when the power is cut. The inability to comprehend this end in function is caused by the way the brain works. It only takes in basic information, and forms complex conclusions based on experience. The consciousness, by logical certainty, cannot experience it's own non-existence, and cannot understand a state of being which is not based on it's own experiences. Imagining death is like imagining a sixth sense. The imagination immediately will relate this new concept to one of the existing 5 senses. The same goes for death. Just as the consciousness cannot truly imagine a new type of sensory input, the conscious brain relates death to the only experience it knows, which is life. This inevitable and involuntary connection is what leads to the conclusion of the afterlife. The consciousness cannot imagine it's own non-existence, so it subconsciously rejects it, filling in this hole with known experience.
  3. You sound like one of those people that doesn't like the Matrix sequels either. Actually I really liked them. IKNOWI'MSORRY D,: I really liked them too.

  5. I voted Crystal Skull cause it's pretty good and I thought it would have 0 votes because of it's reputation. I GUESS NOT.
  6. It's because it was a PS3 release game. Release games are always bad Yeah, definitely... Developers making their first game on a new platform generally are so bogged down, and if they're trying to hit a launch window, it'll turn out even worse. God of War 2 was released for the PS2 in 2007 (a year after the PS3 came out) for just that reason. They didn't think they were able to make a good enough game without having a few years to see what they could do with the hardware.
  7. Was just playing Resistance: Fall of Man, which I got for Christmas. I don't think I'll ever play it again, because of the controls. A: Aiming is awful. For some reason, they thought it was a good idea to make Y camera movement slower than X movement, without any option in that regard. This means, if I want to move the crosshair Southwest, I can't do the logical thing and move the control stick down and to the left, at 45 degrees. I have to instead aim for South-south-west because of the difference in Y and X movement. It feels like I'm controlling the camera with etch-a-sketch knobs... B: You hold a button to crouch, yet using sights is a toggle. Once again, this can't be changed in the options. WTF? C: Oh, and the game's visuals have not aged well... there's that too.
  8. This morning, I got a new iPod, 160gb. Also got The Art of Uncharted 2 (an art book), and a component video switcher.
  9. I'd say the hint dropping that's going on on Steam is much more interesting. http://lambdageneration.com/posts/valve-teases-half-life-3-through-hidden-steam-store-image-and-more-strange-half-life-hints-and-clues/
  10. It's not Christmas, but I've gotten some stuff in the mail. Little Big Planet 2 and a kindle reading light. I don't know what I'll get on xmas day, but I asked for these art books with paintings and concept art from games from the last 10 years.
  11. Yes. I ran some numbers a few days ago. By my estimate, there will be about 40 million pieces of coal in circulation by Jan 2nd. So it would take about 17 coal to have a 1 in 2000 chance of winning one of the 1151 prizes, much less the grand prize.
  12. Some music can very much blend the two. The music in Riven is very ambient during normal gameplay. Then, during emotional cutscenes, it sort of organically ramps up to be more epic. Still, in either state, there are melodies that I can easily recite to this day. You can see it in these tracks how they start out very smooth and quiet, then everything gets really epic. 13. Well, craft 7 to most likely get yet another useless coupon. I've already gotten 3 of those, so no thanks.
  14. Got 2 more pieces of coal today. That makes 9 drawings without anything good. Is Steam angry at me for something? Did I do something to offend Gaben???
  15. Well, they already announced that it wouldn't be Episode 3. Gabe a long while back said they decided to drop the Episode format. The next game will be Half Life 3, no doubt about that.
  16. Did a new objective for Defcon (nuke Santa's sleigh). Got a coupon for 50% off Solar 2. I'm beginning to think winning full games is just a myth.
  17. I'd recommend it. It's a really fun arcade racer. I personally loved just driving around the open world. It's very very pretty, and you can set it up to play your own music. So I just cruised around in sports cars, listening to music.
  18. I found something interesting. Did some registry searches using the above website and Valve's website for portal 2. (thinkwithportals.com) I ended up going through the registry history for Valve. They've got some interesting ones dating way back. half-life3.com - 1999 (redirects to Orange Box site right now) halflife3.org - 1999 halflifeportal.net - 2006 halflifethemovie.com - 2003 Obviously they created the fist two when Half Life took off and they wanted to hold down future URLs. The strange thing is that these sites are all still being paid for by Valve 12 years later. Even MORE intriguing is that one of them was apparently "updated" only a few months ago, though the DNS is still blocked to mortal man. Halflifeportal.com is also kind of interesting. It definitely points to the idea of Portal being in the half life universe from early on, though that URL was never used. No idea about halflifethemovie.com. Maybe it was a joke or maybe a movie really was in preproduction back in 2003. Oh, and valvesucks.com in 2004. No idea what that's about. Oh, and the website from the OP is probably fake. It's not running from any of Valve's mirror's locations, even if the client is hidden (which it is).
  19. Got two more gifts today... TWO MORE GODDAMNED PIECES OF COAL. I think I'm truly starting to go insane here Oh, and once again, Steam has managed to choose 5 games I don't own for the challenges...
  20. *GETS 7 COALS* *MAKES A GIFT* 25% OFF ANY VALVE TITLE
  21. I used this: http://quick.mixnmojo.com/software/psychonauts-saved-game-editor-2 Just start a new game and use this to give yourself pyrokinesis. Then, just set a bird and a squirrel on fire and pick up the roast that appears. In other news, I just played Spiral Knights for an hour and a half to get the achievement. Guess what I got? ANOTHER GODDAMN PIECE OF COAL. I'm really starting to hate this promotion.
  22. Got psychonauts and played for 3 hours to get the challenge achievement. Guess what my prize was? 50% OFF CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS UUUGGHHHHHHHH... I've gotten three things so far and have yet to get a single game. 50% off Valve games, a piece of coal, and this. Life sucks.
  23. But that game's not supposed to be good... It's got a metascore of 54... That's lower than any game in my steam library... I'd rather spend 5 bucks on good games, like Psychonauts or Costume Quest. EDIT: Wow, actually Psychonauts is 2.50. EDIT: Went ahead and bought it... Psychonauts I mean. I'd not owned it for PC until now, and I'll be able to get one of the Steam gifts with it.
  24. I had 20 extra bucks, so I got the Mega indie bundle. Rochard is fun so far, haven't tried the others. I'm hoping that some of these games will be included in the challenges on later days, because today there are no challenge games I own. Apparently there are some really good prizes floating around, like full 60 dollar games and I heard on reddit one guy won the Valve complete pack.
  25. Looked up gameplay. That's just about exactly what I mean. Never played a game like that myself. The idea of persistent class deaths sounds like exactly what I was going for there.
