Why would this have any effect?? Valve is obviously already hard at work on Half Life 3. Do these people actually think Valve would just ruin their announcement plans because maybe 100 fans want them to?

Just had a conversation with this guy. Fundamentalist christian. One of the INSANE ones. This guy was no troll, he was the real deal. Won't post the whole log, because it's so long (about an hour). To give you a taste, here's the last few lines of an hour long chat. Seems like the impromptu mention of an invisible elephant is what completely broke him. I've participated in and spectated many conversations like this, and I swear, the religious nut is always the one to disconnect. That disconnection says so much...

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I was trying desperately to play the multiplayer. My internet connection is fine. I play online games on my ps3 a lot and I never have any frequent issues. The multiplayer in AC:B on the other hand is completely broken. Here's how it usually goes down: 1. I select Play Now, which is supposed to create or join any type of game. 2. The game goes to a loading screen for about 5 minutes, constantly joining games and losing the connection. 3. Finally, it actually joins a game. 4. I play for about 5 minutes. 5. Suddenly, a notice comes on screen saying "You have been disconnected from the host. Returning to the main menu." Seriously the most broken multiplayer I've ever attempted to play. My PS3 rates my connection speed at 95 to 100% and all other online games function fine. I have no idea how Ubisoft managed to release so broken a game and not fix it after all this time.

Man, those flares look so real. Just today, I got a bunch of dirt and dust on my corneas and it looked just like that!

Forms of Government/Political Parties

I would agree, that would make a much more competent government. Perhaps have a board or congress which is comprised of experts from all fields, including things like astronomy, agriculture and geology. That way there would be mainly educated people in power, and for every new legislation, there would be a member of the congress which would be able to explain the finer details to the members who aren't experts. -

You advocate "pure Laissez-faire" but you seem to think that wouldn't lead to monopolies or expansion of the lower class. That's why I think you misunderstand it. -
2012 is looking pretty barren in comparison to 2011. Most of the games I'm hoping for don't have set release dates. The Last Guardian was planned for 2011, but is now TBA 2012. I think they said holiday 2012 for Naughty Dog's new game, so there's that as well. And I guess we can all hope for new announcements.

Forms of Government/Political Parties

I'm going to break a part your points here. In a proper government, with its sole purpose for protection of rights, government and economy are separated, the state having no forceful influence over the property of its citizens, and in turn no exertion of economic influence over the force the state wields. No company can maintain a monopoly over nay industry without use of force, there can be no prevention of any competition with a market freed from force, it would simply be impossible. Why would there be poverty? Anyone not satisfied with their wage is free to seek employment elsewhere, and higher wages are often a powerful incentive for employment, competition among business, were no competitor holds unjust advantage by threat of force, encourages ever improving quality for employees and consumers. Its foolish to think that companies would, at the first chance, send their employees, who have all agreed voluntarily to offer their services, either into a hellish sweatshop for pennies a day or onto the streets, when their competitor was openly free to offer far more favorable conditions and thus achieve massively more productive capacity than them, not to mention the repercussions of the sure to be unfavorable reaction the consumer market must have to such a company, at least not any company whose goal was to make profit and who did not have unlimited resources which would be an impossibility without government intervention. I find this particularly disturbing, and direct you here for a full, in-depth reply to this. I'm not saying that money is the root of all evil, nothing so philosophical. I'm saying that vast amounts of money allow corporations full control over government. It happens in small doses in America today, when bills and candidates are sponsored immensely by corporations. I'm saying that backdoor dealing and open sponsoring would render the government powerless after not very long. And I think you misunderstand "pure Laissez-faire". It implies completely unregulated markets. In a completely unregulated markets, monopolies WOULD prosper, just as they started to in the late 19th century before such laws were put in place. You'll note as well that during that time, monopolies DID NOT CARE about public image. It didn't matter. They offered products that people needed and could get no where else. The same is true for employment. As monopolies maximize market efficiency, fewer and fewer jobs are left behind, leaving the corporations to lower pay and make working conditions even worse. -

Illegal until the corporations make it legal. Laissez-faire inevitably leads to a powerless government. If the corporations want it so, they can pass any legislation they feel is necessary, because the reach of an unregulated corporation grows past the reach of the people themselves. -
Hm, I guess I listen to those soundtracks more often than most. Portal's ambient music is very characteristic. It uses a lot of echo and slow sounds, so I guess some might not take notice. AC2, though actually uses a lot of quick repeated melodies and cues that I think anyone would notice. A more action oriented song from AC2 5EaRHlo4B0Y

I'd give a government like this 40 years before total collapse. Corporations feed on the rights of their workers if given the chance. In 40 years, working conditions and pay for the lower class would become unspeakably bad. Monopolies and corporate efficiency would cause widespread poverty beyond what America has ever known. The super rich would become so far reaching in power as to actually control all elements of government by the sheer corrupting power of money. The middle class would vanish overnight, replaced by a majorly unemployed and impoverished lower class. There would be a revolution against the corporations within 40 years, unseating CEOs just as Czars were unseated in the Russian Revolution. Not that any form of government is totally stable, but what you proposed is like a goddamn time-bomb. -
Once again, I'll say that memorable atmospheric music can easily exist. Music that plays behind the game and enhances the mood, but it easily recognizable. Some examples of music that's atmospheric AND memorable. zlN-ux1JzG0 _V6zWf3ZPnE 8yKG-Qu4WvM

Communism/Socialism. Having a government where everyone can rely on the government for the essentials, like food and health care. -
That was a lot of fun. The final Truth video definitely leaves you scratching your head.

I disagree, when I play with the controller I just find that it goes way to slow. Looking around just goes to slow for me. It totally breaks the flow when you're running and have to stand somewhere holding the stick to the right waiting for your character to turn around. Goes in a snap with a mouse. Well, A: You can adjust turn speed so it's not slow. B: There's a button to turn 180 degrees in Mirror's Edge.
-
Mirror's Edge is actually one of those games that plays much better with a controller. Analog movement control is great for a game that's primarily about movement, and using the four triggers for movement controls was definitely more intuitive than shift, control, space, and alt.

7pm on the 31st here. Anyway, I guess some people are thankful that we made it through another year.

As Valve has several times stated, this site and all the rumors are fake.

13th objective, another 25% off Valve coupon. My current inventory: 2 coal, -50% Solar 2, -50% Darwinia, -33% THQ, and -25% Valve. I'd be happy to trade ALL of this for a modest game.

I think we can all agree the winning option is Counterstrike: Global Whatever

Was playing Killzone 3 on veteran difficulty. A lot of fun. I got a ps move navigation controller for christmas, so I don't have to use the left side of the dualshock when playing shooters anymore. It's been a while since I played KZ3, so I had to rejigger the options for the move controls. This time I set the deadzone completely off and turned off all aim assistance. I also set motion sensitivity to make the hand movement very subtle to control the cursor. Makes the games extremely smooth to control.

^^^^^^^Vastly more profound than it would seem, its THIS. ^^^^^^^^^ "And no one came to say that your life belongs to you and that the good is to live it." Once again, that sounds like a misuse of the word meaning. I think what this person means to say is that "Everyone's life goal should be to live their life." Not as catchy, but it makes logical sense.

So did anyone end up getting a game? I've so far gotten 12 objectives and it basically comprised 9 coal and 3 coupons. I crafted the first 7 coal, to get another coupon for a game I already have. I really never thought it would go this badly. I've heard of people getting full games on their first try...
