  1. No, they already have them. As I said, you can't believe in morality without believing in moral rights. Who said I believe in morality? lol Anyway, my point was that even if you believe they already had them, (making them natural and inalienable, correct?) I do not. I believe all rights (including the accepted platitudes like "moral rights") are manmade and thus meaningless. (which makes arguing about it somewhat unexciting.) Though I'm speaking totally in philosophical terms. In everyday life I certainly obey the laws of societies accepted morality, though I believe it to be meaningless in the big picture.
  2. Says you. So, you are assigning them moral rights. Even if your belief is that they had them to begin with, in my humble opinion, the rights came from those who thought them up. Though it's also moot in my opinion, as I think I said before. Oh, and I should admit I only skimmed your post. These giant posts don't fit well with my time schedule.
  3. Scratches. It's a prerendered horror adventure game. I think critics liked it, but no one really bought it, though I might be wrong about that. About the game, I would consider it the 2nd scariest game I've ever played (1st being Amnesia TDD ) I've played tons of survival horror games that do the "jump out at you" style of scaring, but this game just wears on your nerves. There are maybe two jump moments in the game, but the entire time, your expecting something. This is helped by the music and the fact that no one is around (or so you think.. ) Really, when I was almost done with this game, I was constantly plagued by extreme anxiety while playing it, and there was a moment at the end where I stood in place for maybe 20 minutes deciding weather or not I wanted to see the ending, cause I could feel that I was there.
  4. I'm saying that rights are an illusion. And of course our existence is only permitted by society. If the whole of society (or just one outlying variable) decides I should die, then I'll be killed. Look what happened to jews in Europe in the 1940's. The Nazis certainly didn't believe they had a "right" to live, and so they died. The majority spoke, evil as it was. What is a right then? Something that you should have, or something that you do have? If rights are like laws, to be obeyed, then we do a pretty good job. The Nazis obeyed their own laws, as they certainly didn't think the Jews had a right to live. The Allied forces disagreed, saving the lives of many, thus obeying the law once more, as their conceived set of rights granted the Jews the right to live. Your assumption that such an idea requires a "permit" to live is certainly right. My "permit" is the majority's choice not to kill me or let me die. The jews in my point before lacked this "permit", which I'll point out is of course a bad thing, as this "permit" is not godgiven or necessary by nature, it is simply the "Will of the majority", as you put it so eloquently. My point, is that rights are meaningless, subjective, and thus, nonexistent. We make them up, and change them often. They do not matter and taking them into account in your own actions makes very little sense.
  5. There's no such thing as a "right to live". In fact there's no such thing as "rights" at all. Generally something labelled as a right is simply a privilege given by the majority. Hundreds of years ago, slaves had no "rights", yet now, we think such behavior was appalling. Anyway, even if a fetus exists as a parasite, it is a voluntary parasite. A woman makes decisions that lead to her pregnancy. (even having protected sex is a decision you make knowing there may be a chance of pregnancy) You don't adopt a dog, then since it's living as a parasite, and you can't afford dog food, kill it. That would be psychotic. Oh, and leaving parents to teach their children lessons is how we got religion. Oh snap! Really though, a child is a human being, and their parents have no more claim to raising them than any person off of the street.
  6. Team Ico collection. Only 40 bucks for two of the best games that came out in the last decade.
  7. The only shows I follow currently are Community, Always Sunny, and... I think that's actually it. Anyway, I love watching old shows. Right now I'm working through all of X-Files on netflix streaming.
  8. Why do you care if other people are irresponsible if it doesn't affect you? It's not up to you to tell people how to run their lives, or their bodies. Besides, abortion is not a pretty or "easy" procedure I hear; I think the person will have learned their lesson afterwards. But even if they hadn't, it's not your place to be teaching other people life lessons. But it isn't just a personal choice, it affects the child that will or will not live. Anyway, even if it was only a personal choice, what's wrong with teaching people life lessons? If people can't show people their own opinion and be shown other's opinions, then what exactly is the point of civilized society?
  9. I'm not religious (I'm a noncommittist) but I think abortion is generally wrong. It shows a lack of responsibility. If you've gotten pregnant, you should face up to the fact that you made bad decisions, but you'll have to tough it out. Taking the easy route (an abortion) would only be continuing your irresponsible choices. Though it certainly makes sense in some situations, such as victims of rape.
  10. Not getting into a debate, but 3 was a perfectly fine movie. It just generally gets lumped in with 1 and 2 as being bad.
  11. What an... interesting visual style. lol, Seriously though, it looks very original, which is what we've come to expect from Valve. The wierd body proportions and facial structures are certainly odd. One thing that stood out as particularly odd are the images of pregnant women in flying uniforms?
  12. Hm, anyhub is being slow for me as well. Here they are from a different site: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=10708 http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=10709
  13. Managed to get these two images out of the flash of static at 37 seconds. http://anyhub.net/file/2qub-p21.jpg http://anyhub.net/file/2qua-p22.jpg If they mean anything at all, I can't figure out what.
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_(film) And why wouldn't you include books? The topic is "What kind of Sci-Fi Fan are you?" and books are certainly a type of sci-fi, just as movies, tv shows, and video games are.
  15. There were two films and four books. I'm more a fan of the first book and first movie (the second movie wasn't great) but they are all still part of the same series. Anyway, if you don't think the fanbase is very big, that's fine. perhaps an "Other (please specify)" option would be best.
  16. 16 more days! Anyway, back in April 2010, when the Portal 1 update had people going crazy with ideas about Portal 2, I made a fan trailer, and it recently got past 200,000 views on youtube. I'm proud.
  17. In minecraft, I've been working on various MC Escher-esque impossible structures, which can only be seen correctly on the server's live map. The last one I made was easily my most ambitious. Escher's impossible waterfall: I planned the whole structure out in Blender 3D. Here's a video from Blender showing how it was made:
  18. 2001 doesn't have a large enough following... Look for a fan site, if you can find one that has more than 100 members, then I'll add it to the poll. (that's my criteria) http://www.facebook.com/pages/2001-A-Space-Odyssey/108299702523996 254,000 people liked it on facebook. Couldn't find a sizable "fan site", but I'd assume that's because big fans of the movie and books are just movie buffs, as well as likely not being a part of the internet generation, since the movie is from '67. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of the movie and books, and it had never crossed my mind to go to a "fan site".
  19. But not 2001? I mean, I did request it.
  20. You obviously haven't been subscribed to Machinima for a period of 2 or 3 hours. Your videos look benign in comparison.
  21. My option would have been 2001 A Space Odyssey.
  22. lol, well I'm guessing the video will be FM episode 31.5. Wasn't 10.5 made for April 1st?
  23. Totally. Been periodically getting hyped up since 2009. The thought of The Last Guardian not being a perfect game just makes me laugh.
  24. 2 games? *Cough* Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom *cough* and uuuuh.... What do you mean by Brutal Legend being a " miss " As for "Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom", I hadn't heard of it, and looking it up says it was developed by Game Republic, not Team Ico. And Brutal Legend wasn't a bad game really. The writing was funny, I just didn't find the gameplay totally engaging.
  25. The only good MMO I've ever played is Minecraft, and you'll be lucky to find a public server for Minecraft with more than 40 people on at once. It's very fun either way though. Recently I've been righting a giant message on the ground in stone and torches, so it'll be visible on the server's live map.
