  1. When he said "I should shoot the laser at the disco ball and set this whole place on fire!", I was honestly shocked that he missed the obvious Disco Inferno joke.
  2. DOTA 2. Never played a DOTA game before, and I think this might be just about the most confusing game I've ever tried to play.
  3. Shenmue. Been a while since I had the Dreamcast up and running. Oh, and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack for the Vita off and on. Really fun, well designed side-scroller.
  4. In terms of where their money comes from, Epic is a game engine company more than it's a game developer. The mountains of money they make licensing Unreal allows for them to have more freedom when designing a game. If they want to make a PC exclusive title, unlike other developers they can afford to make it even though it will make less money. A game developer who's money comes solely from the games it creates would be quicker to jump on the multiplatform bandwagon as it's the safest bet to make a profit.
  5. Finally beat Bioshock. It was pretty good. The controls felt pretty clumsy at times, and I thought the Rescue/Harvest gimmick was pretty heavyhanded, but overall I enjoyed the experience.
  6. Mine was too. Possibly the worst way to get into the game series, what a horrendous port. At least it's modding community got me into PC gaming. Ha, yeah, it wasn't great, that's for sure. I remember there was this constant popping noise in the audio that happened in no other game I owned. It's only saving grace was the ability to easily quicksave at any time, which on a console release is pretty rare.
  7. Well I'd gather that they'd be using a system similar to how the Vita is now operating. All games are available as a digital download, and most are also available as a retail copy. The digital version of any one game has to be available the same week as the retail release, if there is one.
  8. From what I've read of these rumors, it seems like Sony plans to make all PS4 games available digitally, so I don't see what the difference would be. It's almost impossible to walk into a game store and buy used PC games either. The Gamestops I've been to don't even sell any. I don't see how making a console that works the same exact way could be considered worse, while Steam is revered and seen as the pinnacle of the excellent user experience.
  9. . My connection is fine, it's a problem with PSN. Even with ethernet plugged in it still fails. If I change the MTU it occasionally connects but it's still incredibly dodgy. Seeing as I've got a constant connection to the exact same PSN, I'd say it's not a problem with the PSN. Even my Vita connected over WiFi has a constant connection to PSN.
  10. Any particular reason? Sony has said many times that it doesn't intend to compete immediately with Nintendo and Microsoft in the next generation, and is still aiming for a 10 year life cycle for the PS3. As I said, my PS3 was terrible when it came to the internet. If I was still a console player this would mean a no-buy. Did you read what I said? I'm saying that it sounds like you'd only need to log on once when you register a new retail copy. If you seriously can't handle logging onto your new system at all then perhaps consider upgrading your connection. If it's an issue of having a PSN account, they're free and they don't require a credit card. Anyway, forcing you to be online when you get a new game is no different that something like Steam. Even when I did play on console I never bought used copies, but this is very bad for everyone. I believe that retail prices are going to spike so that the retailers can make a profit, seeing as almost all of their money comes from used sales. And because of this PC prices are going to rise as well, because it will have become acceptable to sell games at that price. Just look at what Zenimax and Activision do to PC prices if you don't believe me. Game stores can't afford to do that. The idea of a widespread downturn in specialized game stores will result in a stalemate. A store like Gamestop couldn't simply increase retail prices, because then consumers would go to the stores which hadn't (ie: The stores which never stocked used games in the first place, or stores like Walmart or Amazon which are big enough to take the hit to profits.) I think what this story ends in is not widespread increased prices, but the death of the specialized game store, and to be honest I'm fine with that.
  11. I can all but guarantee this is untrue, but in the interests of speculation, here are my opinions: Used Games: I'd like to be outraged like everyone else seems to on the internet, but it's just not a big issue for me. I think the last time I bought a used game was more than a year ago, and it was actually a PS2 game. Linking games to accounts: The details of this sound nice for the most part. It will apparently allow the player to download the entirety of a retail disc to the PS4, in case they lose it. That sounds nice to me. Once again, the implications for used games here isn't really a big issue to me. Required internet connection(?): I don't think this is what people are making it out to be. From the rumors I've read on the site linked for example, it basically says that the PS4 needs to log in and link to the PSN account every time you put in a new game. It doesn't mean the PS4 needs to have a constant connection, or that it's even needed to log in every time you play. Graphical Power: The extreme resolution capabilities sound excellent. Really though, I'd prefer if the system output high quality anti-aliased 1080p, instead of ultra-hd resolutions. I'm sure that will be an option though, if it can really achieve the former.
  12. MGS3 on Extreme difficulty. Just beat The Pain. The stealth sections in Extreme difficulty are definitely difficult. Even if you've got 70+ camouflage from 50 feet away, a guard will still see you crawling slowly. You have to basically avoid every guard's eyeline completely from any distance.
  13. Good to hear. Here's a taste of something we haven't shown off on the site just yet. It's a pre-vis rendered animation of a prototype dynamic sky, designed and programmed by yours truly. z-gt3MFUB7M
  14. Agreed. I still think it would be awesome to see the whole game rebuilt in CryEngine 3; that's probably one of the only engines that could do it justice. Well, small world. I'm on a team at the moment recreating Riven using modern graphics. We're using mainly Unity for the engine, not CryEngine though. Well, a homespun derivative of Unity we're calling Cygnet. We're still making our first dent into the actual adaptation work, but our team is growing and we've got some great ideas. All of the graphics guys, including myself, are very OCD about getting every detail right in the recreation. This is an old video showcasing rough pre-vis work, but all our recent work is currently under wraps. 38nQ1hM-RyY
  15. Riven's visual design was straight up amazing. The thought out details and style are still unparalleled. The puzzles, the sound design, even the acting. There's almost nothing about Riven that I could even imagine being done better. For the record, I still get chills watching the intro. Lza_VWaSlg8
  16. Resistance 3 was awesome, and I loved the cues taken from HL2. Still, as someone who played through the game, Yahtzee is exaggerating the similarity a lot. For one thing, R3's actual shooting gameplay is very dissimilar. It's based around using the game's weapons smartly, generally at long range, which are in no way based off of HL2's. That, and the level design is pretty dissimilar except in the one Ravenholm-like chapter, which I took to be an homage more than a ripoff.
  17. Well, I doubt the game will entirely glorify the Mohawks. Connor is half white, so he'll probably be an outcast to most people in both Mohawk culture and American towns.
  18. Well, perhaps the idea that the subconscious is making rational decisions before the conscious does should tell you that it's not unpredictable and crazy.
  19. Not really. At the end, the scientist breaks it down better than the article's writer. It's not that your "free will" only exists in the conscious brain, it's that your conscious brain can't see the decision being made in your subconscious for a few moments. The subconscious is just as much a part of your mind as the conscious and it reflects your will and your true desires just as much (some would say more).
  20. TF2. Having awful stalling, so bad I had to stop playing for fear of the game damaging my computer. The game would freezeframe, then make a a soft clicking sound for at least 20 seconds. My computer started really heating up.
  21. The patent application is real. :3 http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=15&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=%22Valve+Corporation%22&OS=%22Valve+Corporation%22&RS=%22Valve+Corporation%22 That's a patent application for a controller. It's not exactly concrete proof they're making a full console.
  22. Well, if what we've heard is right, then there will be several companies making Steam Boxes that comply with the system specs. Some of them could have disc drives and some could not.
  23. Steam does not have a lot of games. If they're having 8GB of unnecessary RAM installed and they're also allowing Origin and GfWL on there I have no doubt in my mind that there'd at least be a CD drive. Why would they disallow music, movies etc. just so it could be exclusively digital? Well, it'll basically be a PC, so it'll have an optical drive. I just doubt your claim that a console built on top of a digital distribution platform (one that pretty much symbolizes the benefits of digital distribution) could revitalize retail sales.
  24. There's also the fact that integrating consoles and PCs in a competitive shooter is kind of flawed. It makes sense in cooperative games like Portal 2, but in a shooter, you have two sets of controls which differ greatly in terms of accuracy. No matter how good a console player was, a PC player of the same skill would still best them.
  25. Aside from FDR, whom most definitely was a Templar, sure. Hard to climb buildings in a wheelchair.
