The Impact of Religion in Shaping Modern Society.
Alyxx Thorne replied to Dan-95's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
I don't think religion itself is a bad thing, but rather people who do bad things and use religion as an excuse. -

I agree with Stephen Hawking about people who boast about their IQ. -
In all seriousness, this is a dire situation.

Most good comedic characters are rather static and one-dimensional. -
The Tunnel pt. 2 Questions and Predictions

I would say that the dream thing seems most likely considering how weird the episode was, but I don't know. Anything could happen really. -
I think it's important to teach kids to embrace differences rather than using them as excuses to pick on those who stand out from the crowd.

Einstein was religious. What more proof do you need? -

Drinking blue energy drink. I feel like I shouldn't be drinking it.

Yeah, some of the voice acting in Deus Ex is horrendous, especially the faux accents. But I think the fact it was a low budget game makes it even more impressive.

The Impact of Religion in Shaping Modern Society.
Alyxx Thorne replied to Dan-95's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
For me, values are more important than religion itself. To have good morals and values is more important in most cases than if you are Christian, Muslim or a Jew. I would say while religion has had a general positive effect on shaping modern society, since it has formed the basis for most of our laws, it has also had a lot of negative effects which can't be overlooked. A lot of wars are started on the basis of religious disagreements, not to mention terrorism, and the dark side of religion will probably always be there. -
I think it depends heavily on which school you look at. At some schools, bullying can be a huge problem where nobody deals with it and in some schools, like the ones I went to, bullying was really hit down on and they took great effort into teaching tolerance to the kids, especially the golden rule: "Do to others what you want them to do to you." I've been bullied quite a bit but I've had people around me who have always supported me. Friends can be great sometimes. I would have to say yes for Norway, especially around here where I live. As far as I know, bullying is almost non-existant in most Norwegian schools. But I think the situation might be totally different in other countries.

Well, DOING sandwhiches just sounds wrong. Pies are much better for that.

Atheism: Philosophically Redundant?
Alyxx Thorne replied to Dan-95's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Atheism is more than just absence of theism to most people, and a lot of them have some reasoning behind their faith, or rather lack thereof. And to me, philosophy is just reasoning so a lot of things can have a philosophy, even atheism. Theism and philosophy are not the same things. -
Games don't have to be good to be enjoyable for someone. I've played a lot of crappy games that I just love.

What bothers me about a few episodes of Freeman's Mind
Alyxx Thorne replied to Michael Archer's topic in Freeman's Mind
Nobody is perfect and I think mistakes can actually add to the charm of the show. -
It could probably be arranged somehow. So I hope at least.

Seems the episodes are flowing smoothly now that The Tunnel is out of the way.

I wonder what will happen when Gordon fights the Nihilanth.
Alyxx Thorne replied to k12314's topic in Freeman's Mind
I'm surprised by how serious you are taking a parody. It's meant to be different from how a heroic character would handle the situation. -

Alyxx Thorne replied to MakoVlazkov's topic in Freeman's Mind
Freeman's Mind is a parody, a comedic take on Half-Life. I just can't imagine Ross Scott's Gordon Freeman to turn into a serious hero. He plays him in a way that is very original and refreshing but also completely despicable at the same time. But that's where the comedy comes from. It's not at all how you expect Freeman to be and that's the reason it works so well. I personally think that while Freeman seems to be a bit static and not changing much, the comedy still comes from how he reacts to the things happening and it's fun to see him pointing out things you never thought about to begin with. -
I sometimes buy the cheap stuff and I don't mind it. Some of it tastes better than both coke and pepsi in some cases. Seems Pepsi is a minority here.

Atheism: Philosophically Redundant?
Alyxx Thorne replied to Dan-95's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Why not? If you deny God because you have reasoned to the lack of his existence then I would say it's as much of a philosophy as anything else since philosophy is mostly just theoretical reasoning. -
It's a bit difficult though, but it makes up for it with the content. And I prefer the Fallout 2 combat shotgun to the Fallout 3 one any day. Automatic burst fire ftw.
