Just a thought, is there any absolute reason he needs to jump the dam at all? I don't recall how tall it was, or what the surrounding were like, but maybe he could just climb down and leave the boat. Maybe find a "rope" or something. Now we just need justification for him to go through all that effort...

Sounds kinda like a reverse Homestuck the way you describe it. In the sense that HS started out really strong, with cool sci-fi concepts and fun characters, but turned into an absolutely draining slog of dumb teen drama nonsense by the end. I don't know which progression is worse. I guess starting strong and falling apart at the end is worse because you kinda end up wasting your time when all is said and done. But then, going the other direction, you end up missing out on the good if you can't get through the initial barrier of something that starts off weak. Either way it's a shame, though.

Man, Ross is such a mean girl. As for music, I'm in my mid 20's now, so I'm probably a bit out of date to do today's homework assignment. Even moreso since my friends and I mostly just listened to classic rock in high school (although one of them was more into metal, so I guess that counts). Good to see Prog get its respects! That being said, most of these guys are a bit heavy for me, or I get bugged by their vocals (Spock's Beard and Thank You, Scientist are definite problems for me in this regard. I'd love Spock's Beard if they made a karaoke version, since their instrumentation is great). I've been scrounging for some modern Prog, since the old stuff can only stay fresh for me for so long, but haven't found much I like outside one band called Wobbler. Any recommendations for someone who preferred more of the less heavy 70's sound?

Sure there are people out there who listen to everything they hear without question, but that's the complete opposite of what science is about in the first place. Science isn't a system of beliefs, it's a method by which we understand the world around us. Religion claims things that science can and does actively disprove, it isn't grounded in reality. There's a lot of things science probably can't disprove (like the existence of gods, or spirits), but there's a pretty huge difference between belief in a god and belief that Noah lived to be 950 years old, or that the world was created 6000 years ago, or that Moses parted the Red Sea in 2, or that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed in raining hellfire for all the gay buttfucking going on there. As for my beliefs, I believe in karma and reincarnation. Nothing I think science can or probably will disprove. Those examples are all more based on the cultural aspect of Christianity and Judaism, though, and not the underlying theology. In fact, the 6000 years old thing and Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed due to homosexuality aren't even in the Bible (the reason for their destruction is left unclear, and at no point is the age of the world clarified. That was extrapolated by some guy just a couple hundred years ago, and took hold among fundamentalist populations). The fact is, the early Jewish populations liked to talk themselves up a lot in their narratives, but that doesn't preclude the underlying belief structure and how it pertains to the meta-evaluation of existence. As for miracles and fantastical claims, there isn't technically anything science can do to disprove them, outside of point out how they are impossible under the ordinary rules of the universe. But that's the thing, though. If you assume that there is an all-powerful God and all, what's stopping Him from altering the rules of the universe in specific cases, as necessary? Think of it like using cheat codes in a videogame. Like a certain Dr. Freeman said, "Until you can rearrange atomic particles the way you want them, I don't think anyone could ever claim to have true power."

Holy crap, where was I the last hour? What happened? I gotta say, the insanity present here reminds me a bit of the webcomic Problem Sleuth (a parody of ridiculous point & click adventure games), but somehow this managed to jackknife into a whole higher dimension of crazy. I'm not sure I'll ever be the same after seeing this Ross. I hope you know that.

I like the idea of having a fan interaction going on, although it might be really hard to police the quality of the guests (no offense to anyone, since I apply that concern to myself as well), and may lead to some weird fan interaction problems. Working with someone on a video is a not insignificant commitment, and I recall Ross having troubles with that before. I still think Ross just needs to get a few more guests involved. Like an LGR, for instance. It would probably help everyone involved reach wider audiences, and may help to form a broad base between all the different video makers in this space who are at similar popularity levels to Ross.

While I can't speak for Box Tactics, and I will admit I'm basing this merely on screenshots of the mod, as I haven't used it myself, but I would expect the biggest complaint would be with the character designs. Not only do they look nothing like the original characters (who have a lot of personality wrapped into their designs, which thus is removed), but they just look kinda... phony. Like doll people, in this weirdly unsettling way. The environments do look nice, but I would also argue that they occasionally change too much, and often have way more visual clutter than is necessary, which can also detract from the artistic design. Also, I could see many objecting to the strong use of filters. For the record, I'm strongly in the "vanilla HL2" camp, if only because it's the one I'm most familiar with, and thus I get a greater kick out of Ross's commentary on what he finds in it. As I have said, IT'S CONFIGURABLE! Ah, sorry about that, I'm afraid I'm guilty of skimming. That being said, I still stand by my point that half the fun of the series is seeing Ross react to circumstances that we've all played through ourselves. By using a mod that isn't nearly as commonly used as the base game, it kinda robs that experience from a much larger audience. I'd expect a lot more people would be madder at the prospect of changing to a mod than they would be of sticking with vanilla. Remember how mad people got about the changed sound effects in that one episode?

Considering it's already got over 100k views, I think it's a good indication. Also, on another note, when the video first started, I thought the whole thing was just gunna be him mono-logging while in stasis. I'm glad I was wrong.

I like to think that the uncertainty of whether or not this is a joke is the joke. At least, I certainly hope so. Also, kudos on the Tripod book series reference, rather than just doing a War of the Worlds reference!

That's a funny coincidence. My friend at work just told me today about an Anzis Ansari bit where he talked about how anything can sound like an offensive slur if you say it right, and the example was calling someone a "milk box". Fun times.

If I had to guess, it'll probably be uploaded to their website. That's how I watch the new seasons of the Venture Bros. without needing cable.

That's why I consider myself a radical moderate. If the crazy people on either side get be loud and stupid and steal the spotlight, then the reasonable people need to learn how to do it too.
