So, I just got out of my senior thesis class. There were 9 of us. Only 2 people are graduating. I'm one of them. I'd be a lot more excited but... The things these people turned in... It was so bad. Like, These are seniors. These are supposed to be the best of the best and they're making mistakes that people in the intro to 3D classes are making. Someone turned in a single wall and a single post as an environmental modeler. I had to make 2 games in 9 weeks and I modeled more than that. Like I never considered myself to have the best work ethic what with my inherent laziness and ADHD, but I'd be caught dead before letting anyone think I'm that unreliable. I'm just shocked at what I saw. What happened? If I was that professor, I'd feel insulted having my students give me that kinda work. A lot of people give the American education system flak, but if this kinda work ethic is a nation wide thing, then maybe the education system isn't the only one that has problems.

From what I could find on google, that seems to be a very common bug on the very high setting, because I didn't touch the graphics settings and I'm getting it too. Which makes me feel that if it's so common, why hasn't it been fixed yet. :/

I feel happy, oh so happy.

I was afraid that was gonna happen. Like I said it's basically running an scotch tape and well wishes and problems seem to come and go without me even doing anything. This is all part of the reason why I really don't plan on continuing it after I graduate.

I actually hadn't talked about that one much, it's just as I was uploading the cryengine game, I figured that the unity one is so small that I may as well include that and get some feedback. To be perfectly honest, I don't really think I'm gonna be taking the cryengine game anywhere after I graduate. It's flaws run deeper than what I currently have control of and to do it properly I'd have to basically start from scratch. I'm basically considering this a learning experience game. I'm gonna save everything I have but after I graduate I might do a clean install of CryEngine and just start really learning how to use everything in it even on a coding level so I can actually fully control what I'm working with. The Unity game however I do plan on making something out of in the long run. It's got a lot of possibilities in what I can do with it and it's a much more original idea than the Cryengine one lol. I know a few people who don't like the game because it's "too simple" but I've gotten equal, if not more, people saying they liked it. As for the textures, I can't promise I'd use them but spare texture assets are always a plus. Unmapped isn't really a problem.

I have been considering the drop at mouse click location actually. It's a longer term goal; the way it is now was making sure it works correctly in placement. As for the mirror on the tank not being droppable, honestly you're the first person to actually have an issue with it. The actual character model is still in creation so it'll hopefully make a little more sense when that's in and working. Long term goal when all the visual and mechanic assets are complete, I plan on having tutorial levels. Currently this is a sort of "showcase" level designed to show off as much of what the game can do as possible. A level like this would normally appear later on in the game.

Try to remember the basics of CQC!

Alright well, I made a topic for it in the game section. I don't have the torrent up yet since I'm at school but I'll give it a shot when I get back home.

Alpha would be the better word. Anyways, I packaged both the games I've been working on, The CryENGINE one and the Unity one. The CryEngine game is really buggy due to all the duct tape used to hold it together so there's a readme file explaining a few things. (I just hope it even works on computers not my own) Remember, this was YOUR guys' idea, not mine. The Unity game is pretty solid, but still has a few bugs I plan to fix later. CryEngine: https://mega.co.nz/#!gksHTbqJ!P9v_McY5rtGPsoayJiNBsPIeAIpL0yPrmWNI7dalyOI Unity: https://mega.co.nz/#!Q1cx3JbB!D_JzZZ9Rt2Gv0yevMwixEVD9YE8wyALK61Jcv5lNV24 The Cryengine game is about 2 gigs, just a fair warning. It's really kinda dumb it's that large considering how little there is right now but not much I could do about it. :S Issues with the cryengine game so far: -If you die, reloading screws up the AI behaviors so you have to manually leave and restart the level from the main menu. I'm looking into this right now but keep that in mind. Checkpoints do the same thing so I had to remove those as well. :S -Hit f1 to laugh. And to break everything until hit again. But mostly to laugh. Torrent upload for the cryengine game soon.

Somewhere like a cave? Think more like an air vent or something real compact like that.

What's the difference between a lawyer and a catfish? One's a scum-sucking bottom feeder and the other is a fish.

Imma break you like a rule, boy.

"IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO CODE THIS IN WINGDINGS!" - Me, on how I feel about CryEngines' Flow Graph logic system.

If I were to put it up as a torrent, would my own internet speeds affect how fast you can download? because my home internet is incredibly slow (avg 200-300 kbps) I suppose I could do both and have the normal upload done at my college since they get about 7 mbps. I can't torrent there though as they block them. Edit: Also for the non-torrent, what would be the best site to upload this to? Dropbox and Google Drive could work but are there any other alternatives that are trustworthy?

Well give me a bit to finish up some tiny things then I'll package the files. It's gonna be a large download, there's only so much I can clean up before the game stops working. Also, the biggest issue by far and I'm afraid I don't currently know how to fix yet, there are no checkpoints. for some reason, after checkpoints load upon death, everything behind the scenes gets all screwy and you can no long hide from the enemies, yet upon inspecting the code, there's absolutely nothing that should be causing it to break. So unfortunately it's back to the start until further notice.
-
lol, no pressure, huh? The thing is, I'm skeptical because a lot of this level is kinda jerry rigged and improvised, meaning there are tons of exploits I can't really fix. I mean, if you guys REALLY want I can upload the compiled game but be warned it's definitely no Metal Gear Solid. That and there's only 1 level. I mean it took a couple weeks and some clever application of alcohol just to get the AI working properly lol.

Bag of mostly water? I traded a lifetime of peanut butter and sadness so I could love Christmas! yay booze!

Sobering up. I may or may not have had a bit too much to drink on an empty stomach and am feeling it a bit. Once it starts to wear off I'm gonna head to bed.

For the blood god?

I do love geology puns, but all in moderation, of quartz.

Drying my hair. Gonna go head off to school and get shit done.

Finishing up with Black Ops II. I was being that asshole with the pistol and gold knife. I even got a message titled "your trash" with no actual message lol. I think someone's just mad I killed them with their own weapon after stabbing them. Twice.

I just spent the better half of today Working in CryENGINE and I'm surprised at the amount I got done. I ended up changing the whole game from day to night because lol day sneaking and reworked the entire stealth system to check when the player is in the light. On top of that I gave the player a flashlight and retweaked the AI perception scaling. I think it's FINALLY working properly. Logic structuring in the engines flowgraph system is so weird and so easy to mess up, but I've tested every angle from stance changing to use of flashlight to entering light etc and the numbers all shine correct. Lastly I gave a few enemies flashlights that the player has to avoid. The engine doesn't do this automatically so I had to fake it by sticking a detection zone in front of the AI and linking the flashlight to the head bone. Also, enemies you can "knock out." You're really just dealing their exact health in damage when pressing the melee key but, eh, details. All in all, I got so much done in 6 hours I think I might actually be able to pull this off before Thursday. Assuming I work this diligently for the next 3 days. Not gonna lie, I feel pretty good.
