How Freeman's Mind Changed Half Life (For Me)
imperial1scout replied to tehFoist's topic in Freeman's Mind
Well, I've only played Half-Life 2, so I'm using Freeman's mind for two things: 1. To laugh at. 2. To see what the first Half-Life is like. -
How to upset the tender balance of a forum
imperial1scout replied to nomogoodnames's topic in Free-For-All
I've always assumed that's the point. The random thread could be renamed the immaturity thread. -
I think I'm gonna blame EA for this one. That sounds like them.

Food eats people...

I've bought most of the stuff... and it doesn't feel worth the price tag. It's good stuff, but not worth the money.
-
Yeah, I was a little surprised too, that's why I posted it.

How many times have you rewatched the entire series?
imperial1scout replied to GameGodOfAll's topic in Freeman's Mind
Uh, I've probably watched from beginning to end four times. Course, the end changed each time so... as the series is now? Once. I'm gonna do it again. -
Meh, good material, but the voice acting put me off. I couldn't tell if it was the accents (if so I'm sorry) but something just seemed off.

I am a religious being and straight. But I have no problem with other sexualities. I used to, but I believe passion is passion. As long as it's human. Now if you have passion for, say, an inanimate object, well that's a little weird.

Time respond to a post, way long time ago. Red Vs. Blue, teh aliens. Time to rule the world. OF COURSE!

I've only played it on 360. I could get it for PC, but I'd suck for a while. Incidentally, do you know how hard it is to be a good Scout without a mouse? Most 360 Scouts don't even try, they just use the bat.

Your Favourite HL2 Weapon
imperial1scout replied to Alyxx Thorne's topic in Valve Games / Valve Stuff
Sometimes I think other developers underestimate the power of an awesome reload. But Valve understands it. The Magnum, the Shotgun, and the Pulse Rifle. All epic reloads. -
Ditto. Ditto Seconded. Though I might not be able to get on for a while...

Your Favourite HL2 Weapon

My first choice is the shotgun. Headshots + Sprinting can be an effective way to end fights, especially with the second barrel option. I'll also usually avoid reloading maunually so I can get the pump at the end of the reload. It makes me feel badass. Then the magnum. The spin on the end of the reload makes it cool. -
I hear you, I'm still working on it. Vanguard ftw, I loved being a suicidal maniac in the second game. And having a shotgun that operated like a sniper rifle in the first.

He hates everything! He is a critic, it's his job. And when he doen't hate something, you should pay attention. Like Portal. Or... Arkham Asylum. And I don't think he hates the games because of the story, as he speaks highly of games that combine story and gameplay. He complimented Bio-Ware for their emphasis on story in his Mass Effect 2 review.
-
Totally understandable, as I used to have a love-hate relationship with the show. Then I decided to basically just laugh at his jokes, then ignore him. The only time I listen to what he says is when he says a game is good.

The Zero Punction creator, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, recently did a Q and A thing or reddit. Among the random questions, was one about what he likes, and Yahtzee mentions that enjoys Freeman's Mind very much. For those who don't know, Zero Punctuation is a video game review series (using the widest possible definition of review) where he plays a game, writes what he feels about it, and then records himself saying what he wrote. He then edits out his pauses for breath and puts the audio to a yellow background with funny images relating to what he's saying. For those who are confused as to why this means anything, Yahtzee is notoriously hard to please. His series revolves around ripping games to shreds. So hey, good job Ross.

Half Life 2 Episode 3 (Discussion)
imperial1scout replied to n3o's topic in Valve Games / Valve Stuff
Okay, I'm a bit of a research whore, but I don't remember where I get information, so take this with a grain of salt: I read (somewhere) that Valve was put off by how much changes in their trailers they release, (like the episode 2 trailer) and what actually comes out, so they are not releasing trailers until they are very close to being done. If I had to guess, not putting out any news makes them feel like they have more free range to change things, so they change more things, which takes more time. Then add on to the fact that they want to add new features to episode 3 (or half-life 3, whatever) like the deaf character that I read about (again, somewhere). That may not be going well, and they want to get it right, so they take more time. And then, top that all off with the time it takes to make Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, TF2 updates, and Left 4 Dead updates and we might have an explanation of why its taking so long. Plus, the said (somewhere...) that Ep. 3 will be darker and feature "the death of your children". Whatever that means. That's gotta take a while to get right. So, all speculation? Yes. Is it wrong? Most likely, seeing that I can't even verify the sites where I heard this information, but I am not surprised nor even put out by the long development time: I trust them. (Not saying anyone doesn't) And while I wish it would hurry up, I'm not annoyed that its taking so long. ...And I'm not trying to insult anyone either. Just thought I'd throw that out there. -
Half Life 2 Episode 3 (Discussion)
imperial1scout replied to n3o's topic in Valve Games / Valve Stuff
I don't think it's a sign of incompetence. Look how long it took them to make TF2, was that incompetence? Maybe, but sure was a damn good game in the end. On another note, maybe they are having trouble with some new feature(s) not working the way they want. A Half-Life 3 would surprise me, honestly. -
Seriously, TV tropes is like crack to a trivia junkie like me. Come to think of it, I found Freeman's mind through tv tropes. Where would I be without it? Uh... on topic: He should go into HL2. Yeah.

TV tropes! Yay! That site has ruined my life.

The AI director. Here's some pills to give you hope. And a Tank to take it away.
