  1. Well... 35 pages is an awful lot of space for 3 phrases. Perhaps we should just spam-quote this for another 35 pages and be done with it?
  2. But don't condoms prevent STDs over 99% of the time? And as long as safe sex is the rule, I don't think the danger lies in STDs... Also, most STDs are fairly standardly cured (aside from AIDS, of course).
  3. Well, as a dutchie I have heard enough about our half-assed legalisation (it's not actually legal, you just don't get punished... or something like that) of drugs, and how it actually was a good move, reducing the number of drug-related incidents and increasing the tax incomes of the government our economy is based on 'Nederwiet' (Dutch weed/marihuana). I did not, however, know that Portugal did so well with drugs, and I have to say that it's a rather convincing argument. It makes me wonder why this isn't the international standard (I mean, it's been proven to work in multiple countries). Probably because it goes against common sense (without these numbers I would probably have thought that it was better not to legalize any drug), but if it works, why don't we just do it? Are politicians really only concerned with their image and not with how the country can best be ruled? (Stupid question, I know, we're all democracies after all...)
  4. I say Vapymid makes a pretty solid point. 'Unconstrained' sex, meaning everyone is free to have sex with anyone, would have led to a less than ideal civilisation. Therefore it was 'wrong'. This is changing, though; it's getting easier to have sex without negative consequences. As a result, sex before marriage, multiple sex partners and the like have become more common, and will probably continue to do so in the future. Sex is still, for most people, an act of trust and love, so you can imagine that those people are still 'reluctant' (that's not exactly the right word... perhaps 'careful'?) to have sex with someone. I don't think there's anything wrong with either case, as long as both sex partners are willing and won't regret their decision later.
  5. So, it's about why evolution theory should be taught in schools, and not creationism? I love these kinds of discussions and I'll have to guiltily admit that I didn't read all 33 pages (perhaps I will later) but I would like to join in this . The essence of school is being taught knowledge that will help you in your later working life. The model in which this 'knowledge' is conceived and taught, is the model of science. I will not say science and religion are mutually exclusive, but there is an important difference that has been cited before: science rests on empiristic 'facts' and tries to put these in a model/theory to explain them, whereas religion comes from 'faith' meaning there is no way to (dis)prove it using the scientific model. Again, I am not saying that means either what science says or what religion says is mutually exclusive, nor that either is true or false. It's simply a model to understand the world around us. So, without saying that either creationism or evolution is true (or, as I believe Alyxxx said on the first page, sounds logical/makes sense), can we agree that the evolution theory fits in the scientific model (because really there are very little scientists who still dispute the evolution theory, because in science it is the most logical and simple (Ockham's razor) theory/model to explain the empiristic facts)? Creationism, as it is a part of religion and therefore rests on 'faith', can not be (dis)proven using the scientific model. I think you can understand what I'm getting at. Because the evolution theory is part of the model which we use to achieve 'knowledge', it is this theory which is taught at school. If it will be disproven scientifically later, the theory will change or a new theory to explain the new findings will be conceived. (Compare modern quantum theories which are also taught at school, but still prone to changes and revisions depending on current research) Creationism, however, rests on a basis of faith, not science. That doesn't mean it is necessarily wrong. But in our working lives and therefore at school, knowledge is treated scientifically, and therefore we use the scientific theory of evolution. So, in short, the evolution theory is science, the other theories, such as Creationism, are not. Does that mean Evolution (or, as a reaction to the other topics here, the creation of the world) is the right answer? Not necessarily. But it is the generally accepted answer in our current model for knowledge. Therefore it is the theory we work with. (EDIT: in response to the 'controversy', I just want to stress again that in the scientific model, the 'controversy' only means that a theory can change over time, which is what happens with any scientific theory. However, this change is due to scientific evidence, and therefore danielsangeo is right in so far as that controversy because of (mostly) religious claims (such as creationism) is not taken into consideration in the scientific model)
  6. I find it just as boring and unoriginal as the "over 9000" thing... I guess your problem must be either that you don't like memes in general, or just 'overused' ones. I don't laugh every time I hear it, but I see it more as a quote, and quotes don't necessarily become worse if they're quoted very often. They become less original, that's for sure, and I guess they get annoying if you really see them ALL THE TIME, but I'm fine with them because they're usually quoted in context. So I totally understand that some people grow tired of them, but I hope I made enough sense to explain why not everyone is getting tired of them (namely, that quotes do not tire ME in this way... now if we were talking about a piece of music that would be a different thing.).
  7. Well, statistically there shouldn't be a LOT of people who EXACTLY envisioned his room to look like this... which brings me to the question how YOU EXACTLY envisioned his room to look like this. Perhaps you just did a lot of envisioning and this was one of the... envisionments? envisionings? (scurries off to find his english dictionary).
  8. Ha, it's like everyone else here I mean, I had almost the same story. I think the Freeman's Mind you have to discover by yourself. I wanted to introduce my friends to FM and show 'em it's awesomeness but they didn't get it. Probably that's because of their lack of english. I don't know... MY friends' english is good enough, but I don't think any of them like FM... I think it's (perhaps unfortunately) true that it's mostly a matter of taste. I don't think any of you will disagree if I say FM is of a higher quality than, for example, CoD commentaries, but that doesn't necessarily mean more people like it. As a metaphor, even when the best cook makes a dish with cheese in it, I won't like it, because I don't like cheese. Though that perhaps is a bad metaphor because A) there is no cheese in FM and B) a good cook wouldn't put cheese in a dish. Also, I finally have the opportunity to comment on your signature, Jek Jek Tarr. It is rather anti-German, as well as dangerously amusing. (I would have said you shouldn't mention the war, but for some reason I never really liked Fawlty Towers)
  9. [Completely off topic...] Is it wrong to like the word Naziism? It's one of the better words I've seen on the internet so far, but I guess anything with 'nazi' in it is bad... still, I like the word. Naziism... Naziismus... (starts softly whispering random words) [...completely on topic]
  10. Alright, sure. I'm sure I've got a spare ~100 000 pieces lying around somewhere. In the right colours and shapes of course. ...perhaps somebody else just needs to build this out of LEGO.
  11. I'm kinda surprised at the amount of people that don't use facebook... I'm pretty much the only one who is so not-social that I'm not always stuck behind a cell phone or iPod or PC on social media sites at my school. Then again, the people on Accursed Farms have already proven themselves to be slightly different than the rest. The lack of spamming and hating each other, for example, seems quite rare on the internet. (Not saying that not using Facebook makes you a nice guy and using facebook means you're a dickhead, though at my school I sometimes get the feeling the opposite is held true...)
  12. I'm slightly dissappointed... I don't have Facebook anyway but it seems Freeman will have to compete with non-machinima and gameplay/commentary as well. I would like to make a very snobbish remark now but it seems machinima are becoming less popular compared to those videos, even on a channel called Machinima. Which explains the huge amount of CoD videos that I think should be on respawn and not on the main channel.
  13. PARTICLE BAT IS DEAD D: I read this thread without posting, made me lawl But then... what exactly was it? We all agree it was something, even if it wasn't a particle bat. Or perhaps it was an imaginary particle bat? Was it a particle bat disguised as a particle bat so people wouldn't think that it was a particle bat? Perhaps Ross will get the chance to use a time machine in the future and went back to add a particle bat to this episode, so that NOW he doesn't know it's a particle bat, but later, when he has a time machine, he'll remember this and put in a particle bat? (I avoided the use of Douglas Adams' time travelling gramar here).
  14. .avi will never be greater than 4GB, it'll get split up in smaller parts. I looked it up some time ago, but there's pretty much no chance of it ever getting changed in the near future. Edit: This post is actually quite useless, because I should have added 'but you probably knew that already'.
  15. On the windows 7 problem, Ross already explained what the problems are on this thread. Other than that, I do hope T-shirts will be available in Europe as well!
  16. As another Unibrower (or perhaps it should be unibr-owner unibrowner) I actually never lift a single eyebrow but usually all of it in a surprised look. If I had to pick sides, I can raise the left eyebrow without raising the right part, but not vice versa.
  17. Nope. Was when he was on the ledge and said "butts" when looking at the buttes. he already posted that up a few pages ago. I still think "rock bottom" fit better though. Yeah, funny how many puns there turn out to be in this episode... wait did I say funnny? I meant punny, of course. (Oh god, I deserve to be PUNished for that...)
  18. Pretty much everything Ross has produced so far has been really great, so I really don't mind whether it's FM or something else. As long as you're enjoying it, I think you should do it. That goes for FM and CP and everything else. I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless of what it is : )
  19. I think I actually found FM through machinima, I got into gaming and youtube... probably 2-3 years ago. So that's when I started getting interested in what happened in the gaming world, found Inside Gaming as an accessible way of following it, and found FM amongst Machinima's other uploads. Needless to say, it really stuck with me, unlike 99% of the other uploads on machinima. I don't think I'll ever get into the games... I don't really know why. On a brighter note, this thread has reminded me that I really need to rewatch all the episodes some time. How 'bout now? Edit: I think I started when episode 11 was the newest episode... I guess I have been watching for some time now O.O I think I was unconsciously assuming all AF people were FM fans from very long ago, way before my time, but it seems I too belong in that category.
  20. Yeah, I like the view too. (Hey, I'm a foreigner, that's really the best I can manage)
  21. ^I approve of the above approval of the quote of the reaction to the question.
  22. If particle bats is an endangered species, shouldn't someone make a gif of this one? You know, so that if they really become extinct, in 50 years we can show our grandchildren "In the good old days, we had Freeman's Mind and particle bats..."
  23. That was the joke. Dropped frames aren't black, that's a display driver problem. You should have known that. And more vagueness and avoidance... it's obvious that I'm not going to get a decent answer from you, because let's be honest, you don't have it. I guess know enough, you're full of shit like I expected from the start. Cmon guys, drop it, or make your own topic in miscellaneous or something... or go someplace else on the internetz. Or else I shall go tell my mumm- a mod, I mean, that you're being mean to each other. Seriously, though, AF has been surprisingly spam- and haterfree (with perhaps the exception of Machinima rants) so far, let's not ruin that with arguments about which video player is better. You were at first trying to resolve it nicely, but now that you're both getting annoyed, it's time to face the truth and stop it. Thanks.
  24. Oh... I geddit... *laughs 2 days too late*... you're implying that machinima and Ross had a meeting in a room, but they were both slow and arrived late! (Facepalming can cause serious and permanent brain damage. I should know...) no... no that's not what he's implying... Machinima is infamous for being late. Ross is late with the upload. the quote "never seen in the same room together." It doesn't get more obvious than this what he's implying. That's what I thought about MY comment, too, but I guess sarcasm is always easily missed on the internet (no offense). I always think people are being sarcastic when they're just really dumb, or that they're being serious when they're not... Oh, the interwebz...
  25. Oh... I geddit... *laughs 2 days too late*... you're implying that machinima and Ross had a meeting in a room, but they were both slow and arrived late! (Facepalming can cause serious and permanent brain damage. I should know...)
