Maybe... The blood is almost the same as headcrab's blood I'm guessing you either misread that, or you've seen some pretty fucked-up hound dogs.

They just taste awful, but they are useful for some sports, such as the one invented by theoretical physicist Doctor Gordon Freeman during the Black Mesa incident of 1998.
