This whole thread of ideas ain't bad, I think. Way more than I had in mind.

Yeah, I don't think it's still meant to be firing tranquilizers now that he's got it, but who knows. Actually, it's even worse, aside from the distance, since New Zealand at least has English as the official language, unlike Poland. But yeah, I agree the date it was announced doesn't help the credibility. That could be the intention, for all I know. Maybe soon he'll take an image of himself with a Polish city behind him... and a giant, huge billboard with Freeman's Mind on it.

Yeah, so do I. Yours is my favorite, Raicuparta. Great job and I hope you keep it up. Eeh, I just did some old Civil Protection Combine-icon-themed stuff back in the day. And I mean way back in the day. It's quite embarrassing how sluggish it is compared to now, but here they are: They're certainly not fit for wallpapers, but I thought I'd add them to the thread. I promise I'd do way better these days, but I'm low on time. Also, the redesigned icon of the second and third image is credited to the user 'Lt Commander'.

Really? You think he's still fooling you with that? I have a basis to believe he has relocated, but I can't really assure you. What I'm curious to know is why you think he might be tricking you all. Do you think it's a secret he's got planned?

Man, you're like Wheatley.
-
Actually, as far as Freeman is really concerned, it's 200X. Not a decade later, or earlier.
-
http://www.freemanindustriesinc.com/ Thought this was interesting. Given that, you know, Freeman was trying not to drown when mentioning it. .

Yes, a good, simple interview. I think Caboos could have done a little better, if anyone, but perfectly interesting nonetheless. Motion capture would definitely be a lot more fun if you ever manage to implement it. Not only will it take a huge weight off production time, but it'll allow for a lot more flexibility and comical gestures. I'm eager for those Medieval Fantasy settings, too. Just keep up the great ideas, however long it takes to start them. And you pronounced Beumelburg's name perfectly, by the way. Simple surnames are a covet I'm sure I can share.

Yeah, man, that's fantastic work and an amazing amount for over thirty episodes. On average, I think you get more than a thousand views for each video, which is a lot of people fortunate to have you, so keep up the great work!
-
Yeah, man, that's an excellent job. Keep it up!

It's a tie! At least at this time. 8/8. I think they're both pretty cool. I still feel more sorry for Mike falling off the train than Dave though, since it was all Dave's idea.

Heh, he didn't even lose it, he was just shot by it. Y'know, like matrix-style bullet scrapings.

What part are you most looking forward too? HalfLifeSpoilers
Otto replied to GameGodOfAll's topic in Freeman's Mind
Heh, I can't help think that after his long rant and rejection, he'd just see the long jump and go "Oh my God, that's awesome! I'll go if I can have it!" because he's gonna need a damn good reason to go there. -
Am I the only one who wants an updated chart?
Otto replied to GameGodOfAll's topic in Misc. AF stuff
Oh, thanks. It was pretty half-assed though. For what it's worth, I cropped it down a while ago for those who requested: http://imageshack.us/img233/8553/progress31.gif -
It was designed by Ross Scott back in 2007 for the first episode and it's been in every Freeman's Mind since. It kind of reminds me of the House M.D. logo for some reason, but I'm sure it was a real quick sketch thrown together in just a few minutes. He didn't even know if it was going to turn into a series at the time.

Actually, he really has moved to Poland. Look at the blog dates, he announced he'd be moving somewhere way before he announced he was in Poland, which was before the April Fool's joke. I know it doesn't make a difference to anyone else whether it was a joke or not, but it really wasn't. That would be the simplest explanation. The reality is much, much worse* * Points for naming the movie. What movie? WHAT MOVIE!? Are you suggesting time travel?
-
Actually, he is in Poland. No joke, he announced he moved there before April 1st, and announced he was going to move somewhere before that. Anyhow, I just had a chance to view these and man, the ending on that Halo one especially cracked me up. I love random Halo things. Really good job, Ross. Sorry to hear you had such a time crunch on this one.

The Tunnel Discussion Thread [CAUTION: Spoilers!]
Otto replied to doomplayer's topic in Civil Protection
Wow, that's a lot of episode information. Some guys sure like compiling. Hey Ross, if you ever need any Half-Life lore in the future, you should most probably definitely consult me since I'm quite crazy about that stuff. Like, more than anyone. Seriously, anything official that's related to the saga is something I've kept a good memory for (and computer storage). Plus, even if I couldn't remember the exact 363rd word Kleiner uses in his Episode One speech (which I do), I could find out something like that in six seconds flat, since I'm unhealthily familiar with the sound, dialogue and text files. Anyway, while Craig might be right about telling you that it's Bulgaria, the point is it has never actually been confirmed where in Eastern Europe the games take place, so maybe he got mislead himself. Huh, funny you mention that. It's not what I thought, but I messaged Ross late in production about the flash-being and asked if it was influence by the 'Particle Storm' entity that was cut in the Half-Life 2 Beta. He replied with no, but their features are quite similar regardless, since both were very rarely reported in the world, and both seemingly accumulated and dissipated out of thin air in split seconds, and both resembling the appearance of a green, flickering, electrical disturbance, and both largely powerful enough to vanish a human, and both hinting of an "intelligence" behind them, and while also sharing similar sounds, which was actually by accident. Sometimes the made up connection is even better, more creepy and more uncanny than the truth. -
Hurray! Success!

Yes, that's precisely it. Though even if he wasn't static-ed on top of a moving model, just scripting him to travel along the open sky may have shown the same results. The engine has changed a lot, however, so this bug probably isn't in the current version, after its years of tweaks and updates. Anyway, just pretend that it was the air gushing by!

Heh, I've played all the Half-Life games more times than I care to count before he ever even made Freeman's Mind so it hasn't really gone too far amidst my ordinary playing time, as far as I'm aware. It has a little bit, certainly, but the historic foundations of such an old game that I've known since childhood is hard to break through. Then again, I have watched an unhealthy amount of his Freeman's Minds so I'm kind of surprised it hasn't already buried a deep scar in my mindset. Who knows, maybe it has? I haven't played in a while.

I think it's generally a pretty cool thing to do when you acknowledge another person's work like that, especially if their work was inspired by your own. Even if you don't particularly like another's work, it just makes more viewers pleased to see it and there's never harm in giving an "inside" clue or easter egg for them to laugh at, especially if it won't affect your own in doing so. Mostly though, I think Ross will either just forget to do it, never eventually hear a request for it, or won't see the worth in implementing it.
-
I've actually never seen a battle sequence in a Source Machinima that I didn't want to improve personally. You're right though, of course. Some are very decent, with a lot of incredible artsy work that are far superior to the usual. Regardless, I think more weird ideas are better. Less visually fined up, more simple scenarios like Dave seeing something strange in the sky, or a scanner breaking down in front of them, or an overwatch call ordering them to investigate a seemingly dead zombie body (suggested before), or a brief moment with a freaky, clearly brainwashed Combine Soldier talking about his motives. Of course, I know Ross isn't limited by ideas, as he's stated countless times before. Anyway, I think I'd also like to see Civil Protection enter the Half-Life 2's state of affairs at some point in the series' end. Maybe at around episode 60? 100? Who knows if it'll even get that far.
-
Didn't you hear? It is a mysterious location for mysterious reasons, reasons not to be discussed for reasons that can not be disclosed! Sounds a bit like Episode Three, doesn't it? Anyway, in reply to the months old requests, here is a GIF animation of all the progress updates to date (as far as I collected anyway): http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/9661/progress30.gif If it doesn't play the slideshow after you load the image, you may just be blocking it with a browser addon or option.

What Is Your Favourite Civil Protection Quote\Moment\Episode
Otto replied to Trickiert's topic in Civil Protection
Aw, I'll just go ahead then: "I've been working on the Ra-ailroad." "EVERY POINTLESS DA-AY!" "I've been working on the Ra-ailroad." "WHILE MY LIFE GETS PISSED AWA-AY!" "Can't you hear the whistle blo-owing?" "SHATTER MY DREAMS IN THE MO-ORN!" "Can't you hear the Cap'n sho-outing?" "WISH I WAS NEVER BO-ORN!" "Okay, stop."
