I actually found the checkpoint system worked rather well, it helped to greatly increase the tension when playing.

beefman62, you seem to have misunderstood. He acted in the face of objections. ie, there was objections from a third-party to him saving Alyx, but he chose to save her anyway. Are you saying it was wrong and evil of him to SAVE Alyx?
-
hes bad. in Ep 2 he is blocked by the vorts for some reason and he is mad about that. and the time where he said he "*PLUCKED* alyx from black masa for some reasons, and how it was wrong on his part for doing so" On the contrary, he said he 'acted in the face of objections'.

Ah fair enough, that price does sound quite steep.

Just realised I forgot to suggest an under-appreciated FPS known as Metro 2033. I enjoyed this game a lot, and has oodles of atmosphere. It's set in post-apocalyptic Moscow, or rather in the tunnels under it (the surface is uninhabitable, but this does not mean you do not go there). It also has some very neat gameplay elements that I found pretty cool, like the gas mask, and the fact that you have to charge your own torch when it runs out of battery (which can be really unfortunate in the middle of a dark tunnel with mutants closing in. ). Anyway, I'm hesitant to say too much more about this game for fear of spoilers, all I can really say is that I enjoyed it a lot.

Since you get a PC copy of the game with the PS3 version anyway, it doesn't matter too much as if he ever gets a better PC he'll be able to play it on that as well.

Yeah, but if you are going to buy Portal 2 it should be on PC and he obviously doesn't have a very good one. You replied just as I was altering my post! I'm sure Portal 3 will be fine on the PS3 for him, especially if he has some experience with console FPS's.

Don't forget Portal 2! It's looking set to be a gaming gem that should not be missed! Not only that, but PS3 players of Portal 2 can play the co-op of it with PC owners of Portal 2. AND you get a PC copy of Portal 2 with your PS3 copy! Damn I should be in advertising.

When I updated to IE9, it did not require I close Explorer.

The 'lets find that piece of music' thread
Lord Sinister replied to Lord Sinister's topic in Free-For-All
It sounds similar to the Carol of Bells but it isn't that.... -
Thanks to Jexius there "hopefully" shouldn't be anymore now.

I hate to break it to you but Gordon is spelt with an 'o'. Anyway, apart from that it seems reasonable to me, although I'd move the custom title one and replace 'Ross Scott's number 2'. It'd seem strange if there were several.

I am running Windows 7 x64, and IE9 installed fast and without a hitch (no keyboard/mouse freezing or anything like that). Could it be that your PC has some sort of malware that is manipulating programs in the background and hindering the installation of IE9? It might explain the strange performance drain and lack of errors

The guy who posted it has only one post and hasn't been back to the forums for a while.

Okay, I've not seen this done before but I think it's a great idea so here we go. Basically, I'm sure we've all had that moment where we've seen some television advert or something like that, and it's got this piece of music in the background that you just can't place. Maybe you've even done some research to try and hunt it down but to no avail. So instead the best solution is to see if anyone recognises it. And we've got a fair few people on this forum so I reckon that if someone's after a particular piece of music from something, someone is bound to know what it is. So I've created this thread for people to post their mysterious pieces of music for identification. For the first one it's one I'm after. Here's a video with some music I really like, but have no idea what it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch/?v=SIUAaT-D9gY I asked in the video comments what the music was but unfortunately no one responded. Does anyone recognise the music?

A game can be both infamous and an unrecognised classic that due to unfortunate and unfavourable circumstances just didn't sell...

This reminds me of the Combine Advisors, excellent and yet mysterious villains. I'm currently thinking back to the awesome Advisor barn sequence in Episode 2 (keeping it ambiguous in case of spoiling it for anyone). It was brilliantly done.

Tetris eh? Ever tried First Person Tetris? http://firstpersontetris.com

Anyone been keeping an eye on this? It's to do with potatoes and whatnot, and it seems it may be leading up to something big and Portal 2 related. There's lots of information available: http://valvearg.com/wiki/Valve_ARG_Wiki http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1824635

New Valve IP? New Valve creepy IP if you ask me.
Lord Sinister replied to Julie's topic in Valve Games / Valve Stuff
No need to apologise, it's not your fault the article got deleted off the PC Gamer website. In fact, that's really strange it was deleted, I can only assume Valve may have contacted them asking them to remove it. Or it could be some technical glitch. They still have a news article on their main page that links to it though, but their image links are all dead as well. Most odd... -
I'd forgotten about The Walking Dead! I'm eagerly awaiting Season 2.

A listen server is a server created with the game itself rather than a dedicated server application. ie, you click the 'Create server' button in your game rather than downloading something else which when run looks like Windows command prompt. You can't play the game from the dedicated server application but you can from the listen server. However, if you disconnect your game and you are the host of the listen server, the entire thing goes down, just as it would if you closed the dedicated server application. It being private simply means its been given a password that prevents random people from joining because they do not know the password. Does that help?

System Shock 2 required much tweaking before I could get it to work properly on my PC. I have a feeling I even got it to run at 1680x1050.
