1. They do, however, drop hints. They recently added "Silence is the New Black" at the bottom of the website, along with subtle hints on various dev websites. The biggest hint recently is that the soundtrack has "gone gold" and the devs said that the soundtrack would be released a couple of weeks before the mod, however it's not been officially released yet. Speculating is really all we can do, and is really all anyone in the Black Mesa Forums does anyway. I do know that they're working on it and it's going to be fantastic once it's finally released.
2. Brilliant.
3. Alright, I have an idea for a short machinima I've been working on, however the phenome editor gives me an error while extracting the audio. The audio is in the correct format, in a .wav, etc... I try to extract the audio and it says "Last Extraction Result: An Error Occurred During Extraction" It plays just fine and lipsyncs the audio but it won't save. I'm still in the learning process, but I can't figure it out. I've read that faceposer doesn't work on Windows 7 (64 bit). Can someone confirm this or tell me a fix? Thanks in advance.
4. Alma from the FEAR series - simply because I don't think she's evil I think what she's doing is justifiable. She's retaliating to the people who hurt her and took her children away. They got what they deserved.
5. Within Temptation and Nightwish - My two favorite bands in the entire universe.
6. I remain neutral. I believe we all have free will, and as such we are all given the right to choose for ourselves, however we must live with the consequences of our actions. There are hundreds of thousands of couples who have no ability to conceive children, and would be delighted to take an unwanted child from another (woman, couple, ?) and that to me seems like a viable option opposed to ending the life of the unborn child. Therefore, I'm 99% of the time against termination of the unborn child. In cases of disease I hold no opinion. While that may seem strange, I simply have not pondered it enough or have heard viable reasoning for either side, and I remain neutral. I'm not so arrogant or pompous that I would force my opinion onto someone else, everyone has the right to choose for themselves, and should be able to live with their choices. As long as people realize that they are responsible and try not to make excuses I have no problem with other people's opinions. Personally I think our society is too involved in each others business (I speak on behalf of the USA, I can't speak for others). We should just live and let live so long as it doesn't interfere with our life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness.
7. So I've been looking into learning how to map in hammer, and for every single game I have it gives me the "gameinfo.txt file is missing" error, verifying integrity of game cache doesn't get it back and I've reinstalled some of the games, to no avail. Is there any fix for this?
8. Actually I'm playing a hl2 mod - The Nightmare House series. It's very good, very scary. Not quite Amnesia: The Dark Descent Scary, but it's made me jump several times. I'm still in the first one cuz I can only play it in 20 minute increments. Can't wait for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Portal 2 to come out.. and Fear 3... and Crysis 2.... and Duke Nukem Forever... and Mass Effect 3... and Bioshock Infininte... and Dead Island... and I am alive... Why can't time move faster!!? DAMN YOU TIME!!! *shakes fist at sky*
9. Ctrl + Alt + Del String Theory Dead Winter Cyanide and Happiness Those are my favorites
10. http://www.youtube.com/user/MrTh1rteen?feature=mhum Add me if you feel like it. I would advise against watching my Bill videos and watching my amnesia the dark descent videos. I'm soon going to do something similar for the penumbra series
11. http://steamcommunity.com/id/13th_Strike_of_the_Clock That's me. I'm not doing much multiplayer gaming right now, sadly, but I plan to fix that within a month and a half from now
12. Basically I've speculated a few things about episode 3: 1. The collision of the Portal and HL universes (The Borealis, discovered portal tech, etc...) 2. Confrontation of G-Man 3. More information into the vortessence and the vortigaunts. 4. Gordon shoots lots of combines As far as a new engine, I think they already have one out that they're using for portal 2. If you look in some of the gameplay videos you can see the build number for a new source engine, so they will definitely be updating it after portal 2 release.
13. Sorry to steal your idea =P It has been changed.
14. Mass Effect 2, Legend of Dragoon, Half Life: Source, and I'm building myself up to play through another Assassins Creed 2 playthrough before Assassins Creed: Brotherhood comes out (for pc). Sadly my internet quality took a huge hit after I moved, and now my l4d2 gaming has been shot down massively.
15. Ehm... Isn't this covered in the "What are you playing?", just a few places down de list? Good point, but that doesn't go as far in depth. Mr. 13, just change the title to reflect what you want people to do in this thread, because the two are different. Sorry I haven't checked this in a day or two, I'll do that then.
16. Ok, so I thought it'd be a cool idea to create a thread where people post the games they're playing, review the game, post screenshots, etc... Doesn't matter how old the game is or anything. There's a lot of great games out there that many have never heard of, and it would be cool to have an official thread to share them with each other. So, I suppose I'll start and review one of my favorite (and most obscure) games in my collection: Legend of Dragoon (playstation 1) I won't put any spoilers in here. The premise is in a medieval / fantasy based world humans used to be slaves to immortal magic-wielding creatures up until humans rebelled, led by Dragoons (dragon knights). The game takes place 11,000 years afterwords in a war-torn world and a conspiracy to destroy the world, your main character basically just starts off looking for his childhood friend and love-interest, and ends up becoming a new generation of Dragoon and saves the world. The game is long, spread across 4 discs. Not a lot of side quests, I think there's less than 7 but normally they encompass multiple discs and lots of time. Graphics are mediocre, by today's standards. Back in the day they were pretty sweet, especially during the animated cutscenes. Voice acting is terrible, even by the standards of the day (sadly). Gameplay is incredible, it's not just another turn-based RPG game, the addition system it uses requires you to use precise timing to inflict maximum damage against your enemies. Random encounters are annoying after a while, but is vital in getting gold, supplies, and leveling up. Leveling up is a pain, since you normally have to choose 3 people to use throughout the whole game unless you want to spend massive time leveling up all 7 or 8 companions. It is technically 'open world' but it is a pain to travel backwards up until you get a transport-means (in the 3rd or 4th disc if I remember correctly) Storyline is INTENSE. I love this game so much purely for this reason beyond anything else. The story is epic, and sucks you into everything that's happening. You get to see into the face of all your characters, and their lives and emotions. The characters are all lovable in their own ways, and they have a variety of character types (intellectual, dark, silly, etc...) The music is incredible, especially for its time. The soundtrack is great using a mix of rock / techno like sounds which adds to the atmosphere of the game. For an RPG made in 1999 (I think) it holds its own against the test of time. Here are some screenshots and some artwork from the case: So now I invite you to review your favorite game, the one you juts beat last week, or the one you're playing right now. I also recommend reviewing games multiple times, so if someone already did the game you wanted to do, do it anyway. I'll be adding more to this thread soon
17. GAH! That's the one I forgot to add. I knew I was missing one. xD
18. Legend of Dragoon for the playstation 1. Somewhat obscure, and you'll have a herd of FF fanboys who claim it's just a knockoff without even actually playing it just because it has similar graphics. It has an incredible storyline that's spread across 4 discs, incredible soundtrack for its time, and it has taken its place as my number 1 game ever. Absolutely brilliant, although not many people have heard of it.
19. Mine are: 1. Legend of Dragoon (PS1) 2. Half Life Series (duh) 3. Left 4 Dead series (for my favorite multiplayer) 4. Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins (together because of similar gameplay style) 5. Assassins Creed 6. God of War Series 7. Gears of War 8. Crash Bandicoot (The originals for ps1 + Crash Team Racing) 9. Spyro the Dragon (original for ps1) 10. Warhammer Series In reality, I could list hundreds of games, but I tried my best to narrow it down.
20. I wasn't too impressed with BBM. It was really over hyped for a 15 minute movie, and they ruined the half life zombies in it...
21. The last official update said to check back at the end of 2010. We're 3 months into 2011 and have had no updates since then. There's widespread speculation that it may be released this summer (around the same time as Dear Esther) however this is not confirmed. Apparently they're just in the 'touching up' phase, but who knows.
22. List the top 10 video games that you think would make truly awesome movies. It's obvious Hollywood is running out of ideas, and if they were to take some video game plots and make it right, they could make extremely amazing movies. Here are my top 10 (not necessarily in order): 1. Bioshock - Because of the overall story of the game, the fear aspect along with the human factor that the game is based off of this game I feel would make one of the best movies ever. 2. Amnesia: The Dark Descent - It's a scary ass game, and would make an amazing psychological thriller movie. Enough said. 3. Dead Space - Even though Pandorum was pretty good, I think Dead Space would make a decent movie, even though I didn't care for the gameplay 4. F.E.A.R. - Excellent action packed game with a great story. Great villian who actually makes you pity her (Alma, and at least I felt bad for her and though what she was doing was justifiable) 5. The Mass Effect Series - While putting the entire game into a movie could be quite boring, taking the universe and making a movie similar built on the same properties could be interesting. 6. Penumbra Series- Essentially the same as Amnesia; scary, intense story, excellent movie idea. 7. Red Faction 1 - Great story about miners on Mars rebelling against a tyrannical company forcing them into slave labor. Great. 8. Metro 2033 - Post-nuclear apocalypse in Moscow's Metro system. Mutants, guns, Nazis, what more could you ask for? 9. Left 4 Dead - I'm a huge zombie nut, and another great zombie movie is always welcome. Adding the special infected would add to the plot, and having 4 survivors based off those in the game would just prove to be nothing but pure badassery. While the game didn't have much of a plot, that can be compensated for in production. 10. Gears of War While I hate jumping on video game bandwagons, I LOVED Gears of War. The plot, gameplay, everything was incredible. Sadly I don't own a 360, so I never got to play 2 and will not play 3 when it comes out (unless they change their mind on a pc conversion or unless I score a 360 for really cheap). I think it would make a great action movie. These aren't necessarily in order. I'd like to hear what you guys have to say, what are your top 10? Remember gameplay doesn't equal movie material. That's why I left Half Life out of it simply because any movie would take away from who Gordon Freeman is. Same with Crysis, the nanosuit wouldn't be as awesome in a movie as in a game. So list your top 10 and reasons why.
23. I don't really have a top 10, but I have several that are pretty badass. 1. Legend of Dragoon (Excellent ps1 game, favorite game ever) 2. Castlevania Symphony of the Night (again, excellent ps1 game) 3. Mass Effect 1 & 2, epic music with great story (didn't like ME1 gameplay though) 4. Dragon Age Origins (purely EPIC music, fit perfectly with the universe) 5. Dear Esther Soundtrack (Dark and ominous, great for the game. Can't wait for summer release for the remake ) Those are the best ones I can name off the top of my head.
24. IGN in their predictions for 2011 said they predict Half Life 3, they usually include a reason behind it but for HL3 they simply said: "Half Life 3, and it looks great. Surprise." To me that made me hope for a 2011 release date, meaning it might be released by 2012 (valve time)
