Because I believe it involves editing the AF database. Something along those lines. No, it's because it could get abused. It would take seconds to code something like that. The problem is, if it's manual (well... unless I make it so moderators can approve names) then people can just change it every hour or so to confuse people, or change it to something offensive if they decide to leave the forum. Things like that. At least with a thread to do it people can't do that.
