FREEMAN’S MIND 2: EPISODE 16

New Freeman’s Mind episode! I think this is one of the better episodes. Hope to have future ones out much sooner than the previous one!

Ross, I've been a fan for over 10 years and while it pains me to say this, you should really drop Freeman's Mind 2. At this point,  Freeman is like someone playing Dungeons and Dragons who spends all his time berating the DM for NPC's not acting realistically. Freeman is just repeating your criticisms of the game and the characters. Even if they are valid criticisms, they don't make the videos funnier or Freeman an interesting character.

Furthermore, Alyx only becomes more and more prominent in the story and the way Freeman reacts to her isn't funny or clever, it just takes me out of the experience, which is only going to get worse. It no longer makes me feel like I'm really seeing inside Freeman's head, it's more like I'm watching a very angry Let's Play. It's clear to that the Game Dungeon is where you passion is, and your fanbase isn't going to abandon you without Freeman.

I disagree heavily, I think Freeman's interactions with Alyx are legitimately interesting. Also, he's not really acting any different from how he's been since essentially the beginning of the series.

Oh boy. If the gravity gun is going to have that much kickback for the whole rest of the series, I can't imagine how Gordon is going to deal with it. It makes sense that something that throws hundreds of pounds around would, but then again given how many laws of motion had to be bypassed to make it possible in the first place, that would probably be one of the first kinks they'd iron out. On the other other hand, this could be what it's like after they did everything possible to reduce the kickback; we are talking about projectiles that weigh more than the wielder himself* being instantly accelerated to rocket-launcher velocities.

It seems like he's constantly shitting on her. I imagine Ross thinks it's deserved. But I never hated Alyx, and the the thought of Freeman constantly berating her and talking down to her doesn't make me excited for the rest of the series. If anything, it might be that this format was never a good fit for Half Life 2 in the first place, but Ross made it out of obligation to the fans who supported him.

I must say that I'm with daisekihan here. Although I do still find this series mildly entertaining, so if Ross feels obliged to continue - sure.

As a fan of Freeman’s Mind for over 10 years, I disagree and think you’re wildly off-base. I’ve been waiting for Freeman to visit Ravenholme since I was 12 years old. You’re not gonna stop this train at the golden opportunity, so you may as well just stop watching if that’s how you feel.

I hope it turns out funny. I've been waiting for it too. But if it's just Freeman's complaining about how unrealistic everything is, it won't be worth it. I mean in the original was in a way worse situation in Xen and it still felt like there were moments were he was having fun, like getting sick air in the low gravity chambers while fighting the last boss.

Ross talked many times about the fact that this series has essentially killed any enjoyment he gets from Half Life and it is getting more and more obvious with the years. He doesn't want to make the series anymore, and he shouldn't drag it out just out of obligation.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t think it’s funny, I and many others do. That’s why Ross still makes the series, for our entertainment (and of course the ad revenue always helps). Hence why I said if you don’t enjoy it, stop watching. But I had to make a brand new account because I’ve seen these same comments crop up again and again here and I’m sick of seeing them. Who are you to petition a series stop being made because you personally have lost enjoyment in it? That’s like me going out to petition Disney to stop making Marvel movies because I think the last few they’ve made have been shit. If Ross has had enough of it, he can make that decision for himself at any time, he doesn’t need people to ‘respectfully request’ the show’s end. It’s just obnoxious, especially to those of us who do still enjoy it and appreciate his work in still making episodes.

Wrong and wrong.

First, Ross has explicitly said multiple times that he'd rather not continue FM, and the only reason he continues to drudge through is that he feels obliged to. That's a recipe for creating an inspired show, right?

Second, Ross has explicitly said multiple times that YouTube income is so low, it's the fan donations which keep him afloat.

Wait, are you saying that you've already been banned here before?

Anyway, don't you dare shutting other people's mouths. Thank you.

It’s clearly inspired enough to make me laugh and that’s all it needs to be. Like I said, if Ross wants the show to end, he can end it himself and I’d understand it a hell of a lot more than why you’re so adamant on the issue. I know what I’m getting out of him continuing it, what the hell are you getting out of advocating for its end, other than some sense of moral busybodying over a grown man’s decision on whether to continue a project his audience clearly enjoys?

And for the record, no, I have not been banned. I haven’t logged into my old account from like 2009 in years and can’t remember the password. I also don’t regularly visit the forums anymore, but I do keep up on the site and check the comments occasionally. So, fuck you, too. You can have your opinion, but I’m gonna voice mine as well on how stupid it is to advocate for a show’s cancellation because you personally don’t like it and try to mask it as some nonsense “I’m just concerned for his enjoyment!” argument.

The show still feels good and I laughed, but I think I've been on an Accursed Farms burn out lately. The videos are really dense for YouTube lol. I think it would be nice if Freeman had a priority though, other then staying alive. The coast areas would be a way because he would finally be able to escape, but then he would  get shot at again :/ One way to give Freeman some priorities is to make Ravenholm a vacation, like having him explore some secret tunnel in the entrance to Ravenholm and finding an abandoned bunker full of provisions. Show's still good, but I think Freeman needs a damn vacation.

P.S. I don't know what's happening but I can't post this. If 6 duplicates show up it's not my fault.

P.P.S. If Ross kills Freeman's Mind so he has time to make other videos better, I'm completely OK with that, but I know a lot of people aren't. If anyone's concerned about Ross, just donate. Money is time.

I don't think Ross likes making the series anymore. But Ross also seems to feel indebted to his fans--probably because since he started taking donations his life has gotten a lot more financially stable--and keeps making it. I think he should understand that his real fans don't expect him to make videos he doesn't want to make.

Whether Ross quits the show or not is his decision and one I support if or when that day comes. However, until HE decides to make that decision himself, I don’t like people putting the onus on themselves to pretend like they have the right to prattle in his ear about what they think ‘should’ happen and demoralize him into thinking it’s a universal consensus that the show is worse. Because it clearly isn’t a consensus, there’s thousands of people tuning in to watch it with each new upload. Whether you personally think the show has declined and is connected to his overall lack of enjoyment in making it is neither here nor there. Personally, I think the show has actually gotten better and more creative in the ways he responds to the game’s particular idiosyncrasies. But my individual opinion means shit, too. It’s up to Ross to decide if it’s worth it for him to keep it up and those of us who like Freeman’s Mind still will continue to enjoy the stuff he puts out regardless.

I think you're definitely in the minority for the global FM audience. For me it's always a red letter day whenever a new Freeman's Mind comes out because I'm vastly more entertained by this than the actual games themselves.  What Ross actually WANTS to do is largely irrelevant in this case- it's not like he's burning himself out over FM alone, and a large chunk of the fan base still loves the content.

I'm not trying to invoke something like the No True Scotsman fallacy, I'm telling Ross that the fans who are donating to him won't stop if he stops FM2. He was getting plenty of donations even before he restarted the series.

If you think what Ross wants to do is irrelevant, I don't know what to say. If FM2 wasn't a drag on his productivity for projects he actually wanted to be, we would have more than 15 episodes over 4 years.
