What is that yellow / green smiling cyclops thing in Ross's Youtube Avatar square? Is it from a game he's played, or did he make it himself, or what?

I think it's a Commander Keen enemy, I'm not sure, I haven't played it in a while

It's a Yorp, a one-eyed Martian from Commander Keen.

Interestingly, there are also Gargs. In "Civil Protection - Aliens", Mike is complaining about the name "the Combine" and think that they should have a different name, "like Gargs or Yorps or something". So, nice little Easter egg there.
